    It became ITS OWN MAKE and BRAND that year…product of the new IMPERIAL DIVISION of Chrysler Corporation
    This corporate change was made so that IMPERIAL could better compete with its direct competitors, CADILLAC
    and LINCOLN…without the “Chrysler” name confusing buyers. IMPERIAL was ALWAYS the Finest Product of
    Chrysler Corporation… but it was saddled and held back , by the medium-class “CHRYSLER” nameplate.
    That ALL CHANGED in 1955…bringing the company’s traditional FOUR MAKES of cars to FIVE:
    PLYMOUTH, DODGE, DeSOTO, CHRYSLER, and the now-separate IMPERIAL.

  3. Notice Chrysler used the same windshield on Imperials from 1957-66. A lot of carryover mechanicals as well. Chrysler didn’t do enough to differentiate the brand from lesser Chryslers, particularly after 1967.

  4. In 1980s-90s, my uncle had a gold '61 Imperial 4-dr sedan that had belonged to Doris Day. It was shipped when he, his wife & her mother moved from Oakland CA to Edmonton AB Canada.

  5. Hey failing Stellantis, you need to make an entire range of cars again. Save Chrysler! Save Dodge! Bring back Plymouth! Lower your prices by half! Improve your reliability by 100%. However, you represent euro trash and NOT AMERICA! Sell these American brands back to Americans. Your EU brands are worthless junk!
