  1. From all I have read, this looks like another overblown-ego-driven man who is, in reality, way over his skis, and doing all he can now to shuffle the coconuts as fast as possible so we can't follow what he's up to, and all to save face. If you look in to these 'buyouts' that he supposedly has done, they're all based on monkey-maths promises of payments when this or that happens in the future. How these classic organizations like Catalina, Tartan etc could fall for a conman like this, God only knows. I've seen this all before way too many times in the aviation industry, and it's exactly the same game for the boating world. I hope those iconic brands are all hustling to find new, genuine new investors, before they are totally out of options. A sad state of affairs.

  2. It all boils down to greed. For decades, designers and manufacturers have been taking sailors to the cleaners. They see themselves as the "real estate moguls" of the seas, believing they are entitled to earn 300% to 400% on every vessel they create and sell. For decades, sailors have been priced gouged by these criminals. We allowed these maniacs to destroy the industry, because we didn't stand up to them. They made lousy vessels, and we all paid the price.

  3. New company buys old company. May or may not keep old company’s employees. Sells off old company’s assets to recover cost of buying old company. Catalina was sold and the new owner has a different vision and business model he is employing for old company. It’s called “consolidation”, streamlining, etc, etc. It’s a common practice in the business world.

  4. I spent much of my career advising companies through mergers. Integrating all the pieces without screwing up is very hard. Many deals that look good on paper fail in execution. It sounds like this integration is not off to a good start. That's sad.

  5. You failed to mention the Government is shut down do slimy Democrats wanting to keep their grift afloat. The new owner is was relying on SBA funding loans to keep the plan on plane. The SBA is shut down current ly if you didn't already know that. The business plan was written using the support of SBA to float the company. All of that has sunken and it takes months to rewrite the ship. The Democrats insane demands are easily viewed on YouTube for verification.

  6. It's neither of your options. He's going the private equity route. Borrowing $, letting the company flounder, and selling its parts.

  7. Check out what happened to KTM less than a year ago, after the overconfident owner went on a rapid fire shopping spree of other European motorcycle brands. Ended up in tears, unemployment and many suppliers going belly up as a result of not getting paid.

  8. Q: How many Daedalus yachts has this baffoon actually sold?
    A: Ummm….zero?

    Correct!!!

How this sustainable clown made it through due diligence is just another example of people WANTING something to happen so badly that they fail to see reality.

  9. The other problem with yacht production currently, IMHO, is they're all extremely similar designs. Innovation is expensive and a lot of these yachts are very formulaic. Fat-arsed, twin cabin stern with in-boom/mast furling. Every manufacturer seems to have the same setup.

  10. Strange that there was no mention of J-Boats as an ongoing US boat builder. My Freedom (1989 F32') was built in the same Bristol, RI factory as the J-Boats, and it is a work of art. Though it is 35 yrs old, it look like and performs like it just came off the assembly line. I hope that Daedelus, who also owns the Freedom molds and brand will bring back this terrific line of boats.

  11. Obvious absence of a succession plan at Catalina, which seems out of character for Frank Butler, unless there was no just viability. Word is heirs have been feuding over the bones since his death.

  12. A Very concerning video – Wow!
Sailboat sales are in a complete tail spin as are boats in general Except Mega Yachts.
The quality boat brands he mentioned were hand held and well run. It is shocking that a conglomeration of these has taken place.
Disaster – this will not end well and it has already started going down hill.

  13. Since when does a relatively low end sailboat buyer care about composites and weird propulsion systems? Seems like lunacy. I'm glad this Reardone character was evicted, and I hope Catalina recovers.

  14. Word is tim, he's trying to open Catalina by December 1st. Problem will be, without every dollar owed to the employees, no workers will return. With his money issues, I don't see that happening.
