Am navigat cu Nauti Dogs din Long Island Sound pe East River, sub unele dintre cele mai emblematice poduri din lume și chiar pe lângă orizontul Manhattanului. De acolo, am ocolit vârful sudic al insulei, am navigat pe râul Hudson și am acostat chiar în inima orașului New York, la Chelsea Piers. Este destul de suprarealist să-ți leghezi barca cu pânze într-unul dintre cele mai aglomerate orașe de pe pământ – înconjurat de zgârie-nori, feriboturi și trafic – totuși adormi la zgomotul apei care se lovește de carenă. Am petrecut o săptămână locuind la bord în Manhattan, explorând orașul ziua și întorcându-mă „acasă” pe barca mea în fiecare noapte. Hi Bobby, try this next time you are a single person mooring. Bring the mooring ball to the middle side of your boat, side is up to you depending on the wind. Pick up line and walk it to the front. Try to have the boat stalled, very little to no forward motion. "Life is like Sailing" has a video on you tube showing how he does it.

Owned by MARAD and classified as Multi-Mission National Security Vessels. They're loaned to the Academy as a purpose built Training Ship, and can be re-called for Gov't use when needed. Namely disaster relief/humanitarian aid.
