1. Sorry but how is this "scow inspired"? It's the same exact plum stemmed, plum transomed, wide beamed shape as every single other modern production boat for the last decade lol

Edit: Also why is almost every single deck fitting forward of the mast offset from the centreline? The hatches, the cleats, literally nothing is symmetrical lol.

It's a lovely boat all in all, but there's some really weird little quirks basically everywhere

  2. Was about to say what's the appeal vs the allures or ovni, then seeing that helm set-up, so incredibly practical, love it. The bulkheads also, smart. Only would be interested to see a transom option which enables a sturdy windvane install. And I'd go for a full solid railing all round with some dropping ladder sections.

  3. I don´t know if these are just my personal biases, but does any boat, at that price point, being a monohull already warrant it being called a design fault/flaw? I can not think of a single reason to build this boat. If you want space you build a cat, which is also faster. If you want pure performance you build a tri. Yes, it is beautiful and the craftsmanship is probably top notch, but why?

There are only 2 reasons I can think of to build a monohull. 1. Entering a specific regatta class. 2. Price.

This boat isn´t winning anything and when I think of price constraints I am thinking of boats around the 100k mark, not 1,5M+.

I´d realy like to hear some opinions and arguments.

  4. I really appreciate it when a famous shipyard like Boreal launches a model and the Yachtworld channel does a review, showing every detail of the sailboat! That's why I pay for YouTube Premium!

  5. Boreal has, since it's conception, been my dream boat. The one I'd immediately buy if I'd hit the lottery. But this model.. I wouldn't be able. It's where the heart cuts out the brain, I couldn't care how much sense the bow makes, I just could not come to my boat and feel joy from seeing that thing. I have a swedish grp boat currently that I absolutely love, but I have hard time dealing with the ever so slightly bulbous bow shapes of it, and it's a 90's design. So I'd take the boreal 47, any day of the week and not even care if it performs worse.

  6. This boat is obviously not designed to sail the Med in summer. You get to stay warm and dry inside the enclosed watch station, in your pijama if you like. Yet if you want to take a reef, you have to suit up in full foul weather gear before you go to that helm area which is as exposed as one on a Beneteau. That doesn’t make sense to me.

  7. Well now, a three year waiting list then?
So if I can just save about half a million a year……
What a yacht Toby, I'm going to go find some previous, 'Adventure yacht' reviews, Kraken, Garcia, Bestevaer, Alubat, just to fuel my dreams a bit more before making my imaginary decision 😁
Thanks for the top class review, as always.

  8. This is exactly the kind of test this boat warrants. Absolute dream yacht, no questions asked. Just a magnificent, engineering feat. Drool-worthy.

  9. Thanks a lot for lots of footage underway and real weather. This is how this boat should be shown. 👍 Boreals are very purposeful boats ❤

  10. Toby, if ever you need a kidney or a lung, I am open to negotiations in exchange for your job. If I am not a match, my children might be. Fantastic video as always

  11. Does a centerboard yacht pitch more than a deep keel yacht? e.g. – Boreal 56 vs Hallberg Rassy 57. The HR and B have many different attributes but I'm only asking about pitch movements.

  12. Yet another Way to Go!! Mr Hobbs. You've reviewed some absolutely Sci-fi Superior-Future yachts… Hope this one makes your Top Ten list. It did mine…and I don't even sail…

  13. So little headroom where you're sitting in the first few minutes. Tall sailors take note… Hate the open stern on a boat designed to sail offshore see 17:08 where the guy is winching and it's totally open behind him. Good luck.

  14. Boreal are the aluminium explorer which I always forget. Ovni, Allures and Garcia always spring instantly to mind. Then I remember there's another one, with the doghouse. What's it called?

I guess Boreal need to up their marketing game a little. Or may be they don't? Perhaps concentrating their time and effort designing and building solid practical boats is more important than working on nice marketing campaigns/strategies. A great explorer's yacht, well thought out, looks very well engineered and incredibly practical. I guess it's what they would call a "real" sailors choice. Too practical for me (that's just a personal preference thing), I'm happy to trade a little practical for a little more loungey comfort. But a lovely thing for those lucky enough to own one.
