We need a Ava's facility or slower cannons with massive damage boosts. So you're not draining your cannonball supply. Using addy+ cballs is a big waste rn.
Yeah 600xp was too much. Dropping the afk xp from salvaging doesn't really do anything to improve gameplay, it might actually make it worse. The rarity on the high tier sailing drops are stupid high. I don't think it warranted rioting in Falador (seems like we're doing that way too much). But this certainly doesn't fix anything. Idk if anything was broken in the first place tbh. I was having (and still am) a great time doing yama/afk sailing.
I will say this though: at least this isn't the roblox community. OSRS is doing wayyyyy better than its competitors. In my opinion, allegedly, according to jesus.
You hit the nail on the head about the other options not being appealing. I really wanted to do barracuda trials. But the lag and inconsistent hitboxes constantly prevented me from succeeding so I haven't gone back. It was just frustrating, not fun.
I want to emphasize that Jagex did not make these changes in an attempt to make the game worse. They did not do it to "juice the 99 race and make casuals play longer." They were operating on data that showed that basically the entire skill was either boatpulchre or afkscape. On top of that the skill released with afk rates that were higher than what they intended. There is no excuse for Jagex to release a skill with exp rates that they're uncomfortable with. They had 3 years to figure it out. Jagex is CORRECT about the effective exp of the extractor. It was absolutely compulsory to press it on cd no matter what. It was so important that if you finished a priff course early you had to afk to make sure you got your extractor press before completing. Cooldowns do not belong in core training methods. Birdhouses were a massive mistake. It's ok for Farming to be 1 unique skill designed around cool downs in a game with so many skills.
These changes were beyond just bad, but they were done with good intentions. Jagex will iterate further and the game will improve. There were a multitude of incorrect changes made, and now they've wasted their time before Christmas to get the skill closer to their comfort level. Regardless of that I have full faith that sailing will continue to improve gradually over 2026.
I love supervising Jenkins and Said salvage for me. I think about One Small Favour and laugh. I am the captain now!
Oh nice, they nerfed the new minigame
I'd do port tasks if you ran into random mandatory pvm encounters with some good drop chances or something and more Sailing exp like running into a pokemon trainer in those pokemon games. Idk… how else do you make port tasks…. not complete shit.
Why don’t they have you as an advisor at this point
5:42 this is completely wrong, it's not 1 being active at a time, they're all active UNTIL they're gathered from, then the one that's gathered from will go down after a set amount of time, and the point of the double spot is that by the time the second goes down, the first has come back, adding more double spots just makes it so that there's more places to do this at, it doesn't make it so that it randomly is less afk
also, that's not an xp buff on salavaging, because remember, it's 25% slower, so that ~5% xp buff still means it's less xp all overall
at one point you said there's no good afk xp option above 20k/hr and then go on to talk about how this xp nerf was out of nowhere. the precedent is there, you acknowledge it. everything in this game is intense and highly rewarding or afk and less rewarding, that's just the balance that needs to consistently be found or people will forsake parts of the game for the better intensity to reward ratio. salvaging was xp and money and also afk.
the problems with deep sea trawling are all ui based, i don't think trawling needs to be some huge source of xp .that said, i am a little upset at the insane burn rate on the fish relative to the xp im getting in all 3 skills fishing sailing and cooking, even though i know the catch rates are high. im basically spending the whole time staring at my chatbox, and scrolling in the facility menu. xp aside, deep sea trawling is just plain unfun. i can't chat with anyone because my chat box scrolls so much, and without a rearragable facilities menu im forced to continually search for the button i want. i would be perfectly okay with the crewmates managing net height so i never have to think about it at the cost of a few fish an hour.
port tasks are dry….. pointless should give gp of agility pyramid for every lap takes about the same time
So there's been a blog post already, they are going to revert back to 95xp sort xp and back to 4t salvaging. Imo, the only nerf to salvage they really needed is to remove crewmate XP from operating a hook. Maybe make it 1% just to act as a XP notification they got some salvage. This makes it so double crewmate salvaging means your only real XP comes from sorting.
It's also weird they compare merchant salvage "AFK" to redwoods. Redwoods AFK is click once every 4 minutes, bank every 20 minutes (so 5 clicks on bank runs?). Double crew Merchant salvage AFK is sort 20 items, drop 17 items about every 50 seconds (these can be stockpiled, crew accumulate 20 salvage roughly every 2-3 minutes). So it's not really the same type of AFK.
So now we have agility but on boats or cosplay as an amazon delivery driver as the only viable methods of training? wild.
Been having fun on Arc Raiders, enjoy salvaging people!
They wont revert it, that would mean admitting the last 3 years was for nothing lol. If it wasn't dead on arrival it now is.
21:16 People trended so much into AFK because people for the most part, do not view the skill very highly. Thats all it is. I think Barracuda Trials is engaging enough and the XP matches the engagement. But I don't like Sailing enough to want to work harder to get the better XP rates from Barracuda Trials. Port Tasks should be the in between Salvage and Barracuda Trials but even if it hits that mark, I also don't want to put in that much effort for a skill I didn't really want or care for. I don't hate the skill but I didn't exactly WANT the skill either. So I'm only doing Sailing enough for the unlocks I want.
Which then hits the other issue of the drop rates for the Sailing being horrendous. I rushed to 45 Sailing for Belle's Folly, only to learn that its task only, boss only, and 1/400 on top of that. How is this supposed to be in anyway comparable to Zombie Axe? It might hit the mark in terms of attack style and damage but misses the mark in availability.
If it wasn't task only, I could MAYBE stomach the 1/400 drop from the boss. If it wasn't boss only, I could stomach the drop rate being task only and kind of treat similarly to Black Mask. If the drop rate wasn't so low, maybe task AND boss only is okay. As it stands, it is awful and I'd rather work towards a Zam Hasta as an iron.
They have examples of Slayer Monsters with buffed drop rates when killed on task. They have examples of Slayer bosses having a higher drop rate than the regular slayer monsters. Why did they make this weapon so exclusive when its supposed to be similar to Zombie Axe but for Stab???
"It's better to just drop all your salvage and continue salvaging for no loot an hour, no benefit whatsoever, it's actually faster to just 1.5t the two hooks and drop everything you get"… so, teaks, granite, swordfish, barb fishing. The whole aspect of this game is always Money vs Time. Tbh, I think this is a good medium, you can still afk salvage, just not for stupid rates.
why pay attention to the game when can play other game and get it passively xd
the uim sailing nerf is attrocious.. why cant i do the lame skill at even half the efficiency. who thought of this junk
Couldn't they just lower the amount of xp you get from a crewmates catching salvage and increasing the amount you get from using the hook yourself and then leave the sorting xp alone? Then the full afk method gets reduced, the 1.5 tick gets buffed and the semi afk one stays about the same.
its crazy to me that they made a One Small Favor gameplay loop, and their thought process is… Why don't people like it??
Diablo 4 and Stormgate taught me the toxic positivity lesson hard. Just wait a few months and suddenly you aren't the "hater that spends all his free time hating games" that gets jumped on anymore, but suddenly the majority shares your opinion. At this point I find it actually funny. There are people scolding others for wanting to have a fun and rewarding activity and being bummed out after the hype. "Back in my day we didn't need rewards to have fun. We didn't even need to have fun to have fun". Of course removing the fun part of your new release and "we'll figure out the rest later" is a choice.
Watch them nerf redwoods now lmao
Probably going to get flogged for this here, but I do wonder where the extreme community backlash came from. Except for hitboxes this update didn't mechanically change the skill that much. The reward space for experience did. Is the skill really that much worse off by having salvaging be less good XP wise? For the people that did it actively I find it a bit easier to understand. But in the grand scheme of things sailing is still a pretty fast skill to level with the more attention heavy activities (even with the nerfs) and if you want to go for the slower afk options salvaging still gets you there over time.
In short I don't get why hitting that level a bit less fast is getting this much outrage. And if the other methods might not be engaging enough relative to salvaging like gnome said it'd be valid to fix that, but that shouldn't exclusively be an XP reward issue. Although I'd like to think a lot of people are having fun with the skill anyway and I'm not seeing that " problem " as a part of this outrage much at all.
tl;dr it sucks, i wanna 99 this too at some point, extractor nerfs were in place but why this much noise over the afk xp option
This is why I afk'd my way salvaging straight away to 87 lol
19:00 "We need better behind the scenes updates on what they are thinking."
Fax bruh.
Released a near perfect update that everyone loved. Fucked it for no reason… it is so weird haha
Honestly I love having a skilling money maker, marlins are worth a lot and I'd be glad if they stay that way forever because there is little incentive for people to grind them. I'd be happiest with buffs to get more fish than anything else.
W take
This sucks but at least i got enough to do on my iron to occupy time until they get this shit balanced out.
I've done everything but port tasks to level sailing. Felt kinda nice to be able to skip around to different things and get decent xp. AFK salvaging while doing other things and going to trials/charting when actively playing. Doesn't even feel worth it to take the time to go all the way to the salvaging spot to AFK when I could just AFK a different skill instead
port tasks are boring, bounty tasks are okay but i find it boring and a waste since im an iron, barracuda trials are cool to complete once for the items. salvaging was way too chill and good. i can play another game and just chill salvaging. im still gonnna do it but now its gonna take longer for no reason. i didnt even get the crystal extractor yet and im at 72.
Hang on, your last sailing video which was 1hr 30m basically explained that players should be feeding back early and jagex should be making changes early, in a constructive way might I add. Sailing hasn’t been out a month, there’s going to be teething issues and you’re acting as if they’ve just released EOC for the second time. Of course you can be frustrated, but the way you’ve presented this video is a bit over the top and is going to generate unwarranted hate.
