    I must say that a twin keel sailboat is more stable underway and most importantly at anchor. Way less rolling and rocking. The only sailboat better is a cruising trimaran

15. Great boat choice yall. She’s a beauty. I’m a marine surveyor and I’ve surveyed a few of these boats. I also sail a Vindo 50 (sister ship to the Rasmus 35 but has a wood cabin top) regularly. They are rock solid and sail like a dream. Great choice/perfect size and everything. Livin the dream. Yall are gonna go far with that one. Congrats.

23. A HR35 was our first open ocean cruising boat. What a great sea boat! A few suggestions: Thoroughly examine the bronze fittings that attach the rudder to the keel. They are solely held in place by pins, which wear after some years. At sea some salt water will inevitably slip between the two engine hatch covers and onto the engine, creating rust issues. Suspend a tray underneath that 'crack' between the covers to catch the water. It has integral tanks, which is a big plus. You can clean the water tank simply by unbolting its top cover. If you want to carry more water, add flexible tanks underneath the 'floors' in both cockpit lockers. We added 25 gals. that way, adding valves that drained the water to the main tank via gravity. You will find her to be both very sea kindly and also quite fast due to her narrow beam and relatively shallow draft. And then there's that wonderful, protective cockpit, perhaps her best feature.

26. Nice hull shape below the waterline. It has a four-peak hull shape which isn't quite a full keel which will allow you more maneuverability when in a marina and will help you point higher. I love the glass windscreen. That's a great starter boat but the head room inside called the overhead, will cramp your style if your tall people. That's why it might end up being a starter boat. My favorite mono hull for reference would be a Najad 441 for two people. With the longer waterline, gives you a more stable ride in a seaway due to the length. Those boats are much more expensive but if I had an unlimited budget and millions of dollars, that boat would be on my short list and would probably be the one I'd choose. As for me, I'm saving up for a Cyber 48 because I like performance catamarans and aluminum hulls. If your screwed down teak decks start to leak, a great place for you to go to get them replaced with glue down teak decks would be Columbia where James from Sailing Zingaro went to get his boat worked on but make sure you keep the receipts of the logging of the timbers and all of that information because you might be stopped in other countries about where that teak came from. If you don't have proof than they will fine you.

27. Did you say £15K max purchase price? Did you really get the boat that cheap? All boats require maintenance and upgrades so plan for those for as long as you own the boat. One you might prioritize replacing the sea-cocks, nothing is more important than not having the boat sink due to a failed sea-cock. We will see what all you do to improve the boat 😀 For those open ocean passages I suggest inflatable life jackets with integrated harness to keep you on the boat.

37. I have a Vindö 32, Welcome to the world of long keelers, reverse is all about wind, tide and prop walk or prop wash. She will always try to point downwind when under power, tide pushes hard on the side of a long keel. Using sharp bursts of astern and ahead she will turn in her own length. 40. Very nice boat. The only thing to keep in mind is that you will eventually have to deal with the screwed on teak decks. Either replace them (very expensive) or remove the teak and refinish the decks. Either one, wait until you get to a nice third world country where boat work is cheap and people willing to work with you. The danger is that water can get into the substrate of the decks and cause lots of extensive and expensive damage that affects deck strength and integrity. This is a common problem with older stye teak decks. Newer boats glue them down, not screw them. If you are seeing rust stains and the beginning of screw heads showing through, look out. Also never scrub your decks with a brush. This will gouge out the teak wood and accelerate problems. Use a scrub pad not a brush. You will enjoy this quality classic boat!!
