I just started cruising again two years ago.And I did a last minute cruise, out of new york on MSC. i went through vacations to go and asked for the cheapest cabin.And they gave me a guaranteed inside cabin. a week before I was leaving, the rep from vacations.Go called me and said you've gotten a free upgrade to a balcony. It was an amazing upgrade, and it was free… Thank you. MSC. i have since been going on NCL twice but wanna go back and get on the.MSC out of New York again. it was a great ship, a great crew, and in a fantastic cruise!

I’ve done other upgrades for specific cabins through email offerings just right before the cruise time (Oceania, Celebrity). Just did a cruise on princess where I was offered an upgrade but did not get it. Great tips to keep in mind!!!

I've tried the upgrade programs with a few lines, but the minimum bid is always set pretty high…almost where it really isn't nearly as good a deal as what you got.
If you land a suite on Royal Up you get the packages included with the suite category. If you Royal Up to a Sky Suite category you get the WiFi for free. If you Royal Up to a Star Suite you get the drink package, dining package, WiFi and your daily gratuities covered.
I recently bid for an upgrade from Solo room with a window on floor 5 and ended up getting a complimentary upgrade to a balcony 2 doors down from the friends I am sailing with on floor 16!!! SCORE
I've only done one cruise, and that was with NCL. I got an accessible cabin for less than a studio, which I thought was like an upgrade in itself. So I resisted the temptation to bid, because I might have got 'upgraded' to a smaller room with obstructed view. But on transatlantics, I guess they don't always sail full, so your odds will be better, right? Yacht club looks amazing.

I honestly never knew there was such a category as Interior Suite. I guess I always assumed that people who could afford a suite would want a balcony cabin 🤷🏻♀️
That's funny that I would find this vid …royal just offered me a chance to bid on a suite but I'm not sure I want too… I have a balcony cabin and the cruise length is only five days ..I'm still debating if I should or not
Last year I was back to cruising after a long break and was booked to travel solo in an interior cabin with Princess. I scored a paid upgrade to an obstructed Oceanview midship. There was a great view through the spaced tender boats. Then… after the first port using the tenders, there was news of one that had to be taken away and fixed. It was one of those near my window that disappeared 🙂
Seriously ? You don't mention how these bids are only available for cruises that are well short of sold out. Anywhere near that and only the very highest bid will give you a chance to receive a random cabin in a higher category. What's the trick and what don't people understand?. Clickbait!

Celebrity’s Move-up Program is garbage imo, and it’s the only cruise line I use (6 cruises so far).
I'm such a cheap bastard that I want the cheapest cabin on the ship so long as the room is quiet and minimal sea motion. No upgrades for me. I'll put that upgrade money toward my next cruise. Another factor is that I sail solo and refuse to pay for a two person bid when it's only me sailing.
Question: how often would you say the upgraded rooms are in non-desirable locations? Such as obstructed views, loud staterooms, etc? Thanks. I’ve always worried about this issue 😊
I had bid for a suite from a balcony on a smaller NCL ship. I checked the price before the final payment and the suite price was less then my bid. I canceled the bid and paid for the upgrade.
I have bid off and on…won some, didn't win some. I am just happy to be on the ship and as long as my cabin is clean and comfortable, no complaints here. Curious to see how you like the Seashore. Was on her a few months ago and not impressed but I hear the Yacht Club is a whole different experience. Excellent job on the upgrade, especially with the included perks.
The challenge I have with bidding for upgrades is that the Cruiseline will allocate the stateroom/suite. You might end up in a better paid room but worse location (i.e below tbe sundeck) Also you should always check if the official balcony price is actually higher.. heard of people putting in a bid where the actual category they are bidding for is much cheaper in the official sale

One small tip: MSC will not send you a Bid Up email if you book a solo studio cabin. So… if you are looking to have the opportunity to bid up you will need to book a normal interior or balcony cabin

Worst bid was on Princess… They claimed it was going to be a partial obstruction, it was a complete obstruction! 😡
