Took my wife on our first MSC cruise in Aug last year for a week around the Med as a surprise. We stayed in the Duplex Suite with hot tub as part of the Yacht Club on the MSC World Europa. It was literally our best holiday, not just cruise, ever !!!
I appreciate your reviews.
Reviews regarding food is always a tricky one. You need to take note of which specific ship it was and where it was sailing at the time. The biggest factor I've noticed from all the cruises we've been on is location, between cruising in the Caribbean and cruising in the Mediterranean. The food when cruising in the Med is always loads better. But what I don't know is if that is a supplier issue, a staff issue (chefs, waiters, etc) or maybe a price issue (Med cruises tend to be more expensive).
I don't know about MSC but other lines housekeeping brings the daily flyer not the butler. Maybe that was the miscommunication. They are also instructed to remove fruit bowls if the fruit is old. I no longer drink the cheap sparkling wine they give in the Haven on NCL
MSC's luxury line (Explora) is at the same level as Regent/Crystal, and it looks really awesome–but expensive, probably in the 600-800 pppd price point.
the eggs benedict you show at 16:53 looks perfect to me. I think the yolk is supposed to be runny, and the white is cooked (but very delicate since it is cooked in a water bath). If she wants a firmer, non runny, yolk I think she'd need to make that really clear when ordering b/c runny is the norm.
Great review. I mainly sail Celebrity and Virgin Voyages but tried MSC for the 1st time on World America in Dec and the food was extremely disappointing, even specialty dining. I was hoping to try the YC but they ate charging $6k to $8k for solo sailors. I booked on Explora Journeys for half the price to have the entire ship luxury experience.
Very concise review. I’m doing MSC’s luxury line -Explora Journeys – in September on Explora III. It’ll Br my first luxury experience, but I’ve had friends do it and say I may never return to the mainstream lines. I hope they’re right because I think I’m ready to switch up. 😊
Thank you for a great report. I see some things I would like and some I wouldn't like.
Good report on your experience. We were on the Seascape sailing the week right before yours and we absolutely love it. I don't recall having any slow service at meal times but I will agree that the burgers in the Yacht Club are fantastic. I didn't even bother with the burgers in the buffet because they just didn't look appealing. I must say that after sailing on Carnival exclusively for the past 18 cruises (and we normally do Havana area or Cloud 9 Balcony/suites), this trip on the Seascape was by far an amazing experience and the value is unmatched. We loved it so much we booked another sailing while on board with even the same stateroom. Happy Sailing Cruiseman!
My husband and I went on the MSC Seashore out of Port Canaveral in the Yacht Club. I will say our experience was not stellar. We rarely saw our Butler except on embarkation and debarkation when he was waiting with his hand out for a tip-which he didn't receive. We received a fruit bowl, but had the same experience- they removed it the same night, instead of the welcome bottle of champagne we were able to pick a bottle of our choice. Also we had a ton of kids and the Yacht club was packed- apparently Grandpa was paying for a family reunion for his birthday so there were toddlers and screaming babies in the lounge and dining room. Food was okay in the dining room, but the pool buffet was better- the pool area was always packed with people. I doubt we will do MSC again after our experience.
We were on the MSC Euriba, in the Yacht Club. I agree with everything you said. Food was mediocre and service was slow. The suite we had was cheap in price. I guess you get what you pay for 😊
Did you take the time to give positive criticism to any of the staff? I find it hard to listen to you to be frank. I have been in the hospitality industry in management for over 30 years I would suggest speaking with the upper staff.
Love your channel! You’re a straight shooter and I like that!
Love your content. Our Retreat fridge has always been included. Our butler even found out what beer I liked and put a 6 pack in it. You can go to the Retreat lounge and grab all kind of drinks to bring to your room if you like. 👍
My wife and I went on the MSC seaside and quite honestly our experience sounds like it was significantly better than yours. Like you said the itineraries are not overwhelmingly exciting we went to Nassau the Private Island back to Miami. But the butler and the room attendant and the bartenders and every single person that worked in the yacht club was exceptional. We did have a bottle of champagne in the room however we just told them to take it away because we don't drink. They were also good enough to get Gatorade for me because I get dehydrated very easily. And that was a project because they had to take my card and go down to a bar to get it and then bring it back up to the room. You really can't ask them to do more than that particularly when the cruise line made it difficult for them to get the product in the first place. Concierge desk had had a great staff and at no time did they say no about anything. As a matter of fact we were checking on our excursions because we hadn't received any documentation about it. We found out that the excursion had been canceled but the concierge desk found a new excursion almost immediately and was able to get us on that excursion would you actually ended up being better than the excursion we probably picked in the first place. I know that the seascape goes for normally longer cruises. But I also have noticed quite a difference in the ratings of each ship. And for some reason seaside seems to have very good ratings better than most of the ships that go in and out of the gulf and Miami and the Port Canaveral ports. Although it's not the best cruise I've ever been on and certainly comparing them to Oceania they certainly don't get to that level particularly if you're in a penthouse on the Oceania Cruise. The food was very good it was not as good as a higher and cruise like Oceania. But certainly the service was excellent in the MSC yacht club. I think it's very hard to compete with those types of services on such a large ship. But at least on the MSC seaside. They did an excellent job literally in every part of the cruise. To be fair I was only on the ship for four night. But I certainly wouldn't be afraid to go longer.
Very informative review! Regarding the bed- were the beds in your previous MSC cruises better than what you had in the YC suite? We’ll be on the Meraviglia YC next month.
I first found your videos 250 years ago when you did the tour of The Crystal Penthouse on The Crystal Symphony. Yours was the ONLY video I could find on that cabin. I am so happy to see that you and Ricky are still at it and still doing such great and informative videos. It's great to see you again!
Scott
When you say the beds were uncomfortable or they too hard or too soft to your liking,?
I stayed in the yacht club twice so far going for my third soon the only thing I didn’t like about my deluxe balcony suite was not having the outlet next to the bed. Everything else was fine for me. If you wanted a bottle of champagne, you could simply have asked your butler. I don’t drink champagne in my room, but I remember other guests telling me that’s what they did.
Regarding the yacht club restaurant, we had great and fast service actually too fast. I don’t like to be rushed when having dinner. I cannot comment on breakfast or lunch because I think we only had breakfast one time in the restaurant in 11 days. We were on the Seacape 4 night and the Meraviglia 7 nights.
That’s strange we had the small fat round Belgian waffles. They were delicious. We had them almost every day with room service breakfast. I was surprised to see the waffles that they served you. You are correct. They look like Eggo waffles. I definitely wouldn’t want those. However, the bread on MSC is very good.
Lol I’m commenting while I’m watching your video because I don’t wanna lump everything together in one comment. I do have a CPAP machine I brought my own extension cord, however, not only did they want to provide me with one they also gave me distilled water for my machine. I didn’t even have to ask. We also received the nice bowl of fruit which we barely touched. We also received the deli planner as well as some other literature and also we use the MSC app for the daily event schedule.
Sounds to me that you had a very inexperienced butler if I were you, I would’ve went to the concierge and expressed my concerns. The concierge‘s most likely would’ve put you in contact with the head Butler or the head person in charge of the yacht club. I don’t know the name for them. I know people that sailed on MSC in a regular room, not yacht club that requested and were able to get mattress toppers because they complained the beds were too hard
You must have pissed someone off or something? We have been in Yacht Club 8 times, 3 times in Seascape and never had slow service, or a bad meal. We always got our pillow menu, bottle of booze, and welcome drinks. They will also change your mattress topper if you ask. We had one butler that was inattentive for most of the cruise but our butler from a previous cruise took care of us and we eventually found out he had joined the ship the same day we embarked and was training a lot. We also never had to pay for the cabana’s on YC deck, besides the owners suite reserved cabana they have always let us just take one if they weren’t booked. Sorry you had such a bad experience.
My wife and I took our very first cruise with MSC on the Seascape in Yacht Club. Overall we had a good time on our cruise. I agree with you on a lot of issues you spoke about. Our butler was non existent. When we saw him the first night we asked about the pillows and he pretended to not know about the pillow menu. We also didn’t get the welcome prosecco we had to ask multiple times for bathrobes and the complimentary bottle of alcohol for the room. Also our room had an electrical issue, brown stained sheets, and a few other problems. We notified concierge and the sheets got changed, the electrical issue was reported the first night and no one entered the work order to have it fixed until our first port day.
They electrician showed me the paperwork with the entry date being that day.
The dining room was hit and miss. The first two nights there were a lot of issues, enough for me to speak with the host who got everything corrected and zero issues after.
We found the priority embarkation and disembarkation to be a huge joke at best. Nothing like we saw in the YouTube videos we watched. Also the Ocean Cay dining was horrible. The hot food was cold, the cold food was warm nd borderline dangerous from a food safety standpoint.
The pool and pool buffet was good. There was a major lack of drink service in the pool area, which was honestly for the better because I discovered that you can ask them for certain drinks made with higher end alcohol.😊
Some of the staff seemed overworked and disinterested in actually being there. I know they work long hours, aren’t paid the best, and are thousands of miles from home and this can play into the service you receive.
I will say our junior butler was absolutely amazing and he was always around for us and took so much better care than the main butler.
We are giving MSC another try in 2027 on a different ship. We are hoping that the experience will be better and more along the lines of what the travel YouTubers show.
Man you complain a lot for giving yacht club a 9.
My wife and I love the MSC Yacht Club and have cruised in Yacht Club suites on nearly every class of ship in the MSC fleet (Seaside, Seashore, Seascape, Meraviglia, World Europa, World America, & Divina). Many of your points are spot on and I’d like to add to them. We are Blue Diamond MSC Voyager's Club members and have been cruising them since 2015.
USB plugs: Yep there’s only one next to the bed. There are some electrical outlets just opposite the bed near the mirror, but if you need to charge a device at night just know that you won’t be able to see the device without getting up.
Mattress: we’ve always had a great night’s sleep in our suites, but I know everyone is different in that regard as you mentioned.
Top Sail Lounge: My personal happy place! Perfect.
Top Sail Restaurant: Never had an issue with service and I agree with your assessment of the dinner food. It’s never been anything to write home about, and we always eat two or three dinners in one of the specialty restaurants (Butcher’s Cut, etc.).
The One Pool Grill: We eat breakfast up on the pool deck (weather permitting), but you are correct about that waffle! I know to only get an omelet with bacon (extra crispy you have to specify). The waffles & pancakes cooked fresh up on the pool deck are head & shoulders above the restaurant. The burgers are the best on the pool deck grill too!
Great review!
Hello, this is my first time seeing your channel. Don’t worry I did the proper clicking.. did you have a type of person if it was like that for me I would be pissed and complaining I wanted did you make any complaints or things like that and how did they treat you if you did and did they fix it thanks for your knowledge one more thing. I’m in a wheelchair. Do they have rooms for wheelchair-bound people in that category?🎉
We had a wonderful experience in yacht club on Seascape. We received the champagne in room, fruit basket, excellent drink service in the lounge, given pillow options, excellent butler, amazing food in the restaurant with service above and beyond. So completely different from your experience. Wish it would have been better for you. I agree on breakfast in the restaraunt I was also served the eggo frozen waffles. Breakfast is better at the pool deck buffet
Thanks for the review; we’ve sailed on the Seascape, Seashore and World America, all Aurea Balcony suites. The Aurea experience includes Thermal Spa access and a private dining room, which found to be excellent. My wife has special dietary needs due to food allergies and the staff on all three ships could not have been more helpful and professional in meeting her needs. We enjoyed MSC so much we have three more sailings booked, on Grandiosa, America and Atlantic. I hope everyone finds their future cruises to be memorable experiences in the most positive way! Happy sailing!
We cruised twice in Yacht Club and go for a third time next year. But we did it in Europe and on smaller ships (Fantasia-Class). The Yacht Club there ist a little bit different. It's smaller and much more personal. The YC-dining room is on another part of the ship, not in the YC-area. So you have to walk trough the ship (your butler will escort you, if you like). Service was very good on both cruises. There was only one waiter in the top sail lounge that was a bit slow, all the others were very attentive. Service at the restaurant and the pool bar was perfect. Food is always a bit of an issue with MSC. The food in the restaurant was good, but not high end. But the snacks (and also the small breakfast) at the top sail lounge were perfect.
Like you said, some things just don't happen all of the time. On our first cruise, we had no Chanpagne in the room, but we got a bottle of Champagne or booze to choose from on the second day from our butler. On the second cruise, Champagne was in the room, when we arrived. On the frist cruise, we always had a little water bottle and a glass on the bedside talbe in the evening, on the second cruise that did not happen (chocolate was always there). No big thing, as there is enough water in the mini-bar but just a nice thing. Also on our first cruise there were no XXL-bathrobes, available, but on the second cruise, they where available.
But the overall experience is something we really love and we can't wait to be back on the Yacht Club next year (Canary Islands).
Thank you for this honest review. I’ve decided to forego a Yacht Club cruise to go with a Princess Sanctuary sailing instead. The uncomfortable bed would make me miserable.
I have been on the Seascape in February the service was top notch the food was good, I wondered did you comment to the staff to let them correct it
I would love to hear more about the other lines that close to what MSC charges Royal Caribbean charges about 3 times more and not anything like the Yacht Club,
Oh and I don’t want to have to fly to Florida
We like Celebrity Retreat the most because we love the Retreat, but also love the rest of the ship in terms of food, service and entertainment. We enjoyed MSC Yacht Club but not the rest of the ship. We would sail MSC again but only in the Yacht Club and probably just short sailings for a quick getaway.
We have done Yacht Club 2 times and next week we are doing a back to back on Celebrity Reflection in the retreat and then on the MSC Seaside Yacht club. We really enjoy the YC. This will be our first Retreat and looking at a NCL Heaven.
We are scheduled to cruise NOV2026 on the MSC World America out of Miami FL with the Yacht Club we normally vacation with Royal Caribbean Haven but our daughters asked us to try MSC for our family Thanksgiving event
Congratulations on the video! Do you know if drinks are unlimited at the yacht club?
Well I think MSC is designed for Europe and it doesn’t translate so well in Caribbean waters. First of all, anything we wanted to change was done ASAP. Asked for the softer pillows and bed was done, clothing was hung and organized when embarked and then repacked when disembarked, given longer cords for charging devices despite one charger on the bed (did you look on the light?, I think there’s another one on both sides). It’s Italian cruise line, in Med Sea it’s very European. Apps, first course is pasta and second is your main course, that’s how you order. It’s slow because you’re supposed to eat and chat. Don’t watch the clock! The food we have had is sophisticated, stop eating kid menu foods like hamburgers and French fries. Honestly I think it’s being in a different continent. Going next month starting in Rome, yacht club-2 rooms and one interior! I’ll keep you posted
Thank you for the honest review. We are loyal Princess cruisers, but since they are no longer sailing from Galveston, we're looking for alternatives. We've been done with Carnival for years, have no desire to do Disney, Royal Caribbean, or Norwegian. MSC Yacht Club looks like it might be for us, so I've been doing my due diligence with research. Given your cruise history, I feel like your comments are objective where they need to be and subjective based on your personal preferences. That really helps. Even Princess, which we love, has hits and misses, but overall provides us with the type of cruise we like. I think Yacht Club is probably the same. If you do sail with their sister line, Explora, I would love to hear your thoughts on that.
Question: What are the names of the smaller, luxury cruise lines? I've never been on a cruise before but have been looking at MSC YC. I'd appreciate knowing what my other options are.
Did you visit the Thermal suite / spa? I thought that was included but I didn't hear you mention it (maybe I just missed it). That's a perk for me.
Thank you 😊
I enjoyed your review. My wife and I have been in the Yacht Club twice. I enjoyed one the ships more than the other. We had chocolates in our room every night. The food on the first ship was better than the other. The overall experience was fantastic. Also, you should have mentioned that there is a separate location to drop your luggage. At that point you are escorted through security into the private area for check in as you mentioned. We had our own white night party. The captain and officers come to the Yacht Club for introductions. Problems were resolved right away. Your butler probably needed more training. It’s expensive particularly if you are doing two weeks, but it much cheaper than the Haven and the Retreat. It’s a special experience, but I would not doubt that a true luxury ship might be better, particularly in terms of food.
You mention speed of service, I Europe we don't rush our meals, we take our time… Also we tend to not eat piping hot food like Americans or British?
MSC is a different breed in the cruising industry. We've sailed NCL Haven (10X), Celebrity Retreat (2x), and Princess (suites). We tried MSC's Yacht Club last year. We did a lot of research before booking and went in with a very open mind. We knew about the limited plugs / USB ports in the rooms. We were aware of the slower service (general European style of service). We were also aware of the slower service in the Top Sail lounge. In spite of all that, we were pleasantly surprised by the experience. We appreciated quick access to the rooms on embarkation day. Our butler brought flowers, champagne, and treats later that afternoon which, for us, was not a big deal. I have a bad back and our bed was fine. They offered a mattress topper (which we found out through YouTube) which we declined. I have a CPAP and the Jr. Butler and Butler brought in an extension cord to ensure I was able to use my device at night (given the suite only had one outlet). The food was not what we eat everyday and it wasn't our favorite but it wasn't terrible. We ventured down to the regular dining room for breakfast or the buffet for late night pizza. In general, we loved the slower paced meal service in the YC dining room. This allowed us to enjoy conversations, drink wine in between courses, and listen to the piano from the lounge downstairs. I agree that the ship outside of the YC is chaotic but this is also true on NCL, Celebrity and the 1 Royal sailing we did. In general, the YC was comparable to the Haven. Retreat didn't compare for us (I think because we were in their their highest suite category both sailings – everything was exceptional). We're sailing MSC YC in Europse next year. We're trying Explora later this fall. I think MSC might be a good alternative to the Haven.
Thanks for the review, we did the World America Yacht Club and loved it. I’m a Diamond cruiser and received 2 bottles of champagne upon arrival. Also received fruits and chocolates ever day. We are booked for the Grandiosa in November 2026 and the Meraviglia in March 2027 also Yacht Club all ocean view Balconies. All in all, we enjoyed the Yacht Club Club experience. I find it a little expensive to my liking but it is what it is.
