I watch so many sailing channels. so many hate self taking systems. They don't go far enough port/starboard. Most just dont want it. Will be nice to see how yours works or doesnt.
At least you did not have 4 kids riding on the bike with you through the canals of VN. Great people, they have a positive attitude in the most difficult situations. My hat is off to my VN friends. I am sure that Hull #1 is happy to see this show. So close to the boat going into the water. Happy Trails

Helming the boat, a bit like driving a bus from the rear bench seat, why not Rocco? It's the thrill of it all. Your enthusiasm and joy of the build is contagious, imagine when you finally hit the water with this Queen of the Sea?
Those helms are horrible!! So much to like about the Seawinds. Rugged construction. Lightweight and slimmer performance oriented hulls. But no matter how much they try to justify those helms, it’s a deal killer for us. Sure you can see… if you bob and weave to look around all the obstructions. As I’ve said before, and someone else commented here… it’s like driving the bus from the back seat. It’s one thing to be inside if your face was against the front windshield. But it’s entirely another to be 12’ -14’ back from your windshield. That reduces your vertical view angle significantly, and accentuates the movement and definitely the perception of the pitching motion. Nick already demonstrated that when he got queasy sailing the 1260. The view of up/down – up/down viewed through the cabin as the boat pitched was horrible. It was nauseating watching it on TV! Can you imagine at night in the rain?! And you have to have all the lights off in the cabin at night, or you won’t be able to see out! That’ll be fun for the rest of the crew trying to cook, eat and other activities aboard. Give us the option like Balance. Or just make it raised like the HH50. Heck, I’d rather have an Fontaine Pajot!

Out of interest, having so many red LEDs could interfere with navigation regs. Imagine if you have a vessel approaching on starboard with your cockpit red lights on, you could actually cause the collision with another vessel taking avoiding action.
Better to have a red head torch than a cockpit full of red LEDs ?
I'm happy that works for you guys. That said, I will be pretty annoyed by the need to move back and forth to find a clear line of sight through the salon when I need to look at a specific point on the horizon… 🙂

will you be thinking of putting cameras on your sailboat or on your mast to get a overhead view?
Are you going to have CCTV cameras and motion sensors you can activate for security, in some more dodgy ports?

While we sail around the world on our beautiful monohull, my son and daughter-in-law live in Ho Chi Minh. My son drives a motorbike and it frightens the hell out of me thinking of him negotiating those busy/flooded streets – you have just added to that fear!!! Good

At night, with rain will be a thing. My opinion, it’s a sailboat, you can’t control the boat from the Nav, but you can monitor.
So the nav stations isn’t the answer.

Everything always on someone else’s boat. I guess you are still another year out? Don’t understand your going on about visibility. This is a feature of the boat and always has been so really redundant.
I've chartered a 1260 and there is a lot to like about it but i absolutely hated the helm.. you really need to be higher up on a cat for decent visibility. The other thing is that it feels really detached from the sails… lastly its terrible coming into a marina in terms of visibility.. actually the worse I've been on.
I really like what Plukky has come up with on his ElCano challenge… that looks impressive.

I feel sorry for the b*gger. It's not his fault that Covid happened although buying a boat so close to the beginning of the production run was always risky. The bottom line is I am not sure how many people – including the two of them – are really as excited by the glacial progress as they have to make out. Roll on end of Q1 '23 or whenever their boat will actually get finished.
