De asemenea, peste 10 ani de experiență în căutare și salvare pe mare în Norvegia. VA RUGAM SA FITI AMABILI IN COMENTARII! Sunt doar o persoană normală care împărtășește aventura mea de călătorie prin ochii mei și experiența din perspectiva mea! Amintește-ți cum fac lucruri care ar putea funcționa pentru mine, dar nu și pentru tine. S-ar putea chiar să nu fie modul corect de a face lucrurile și nici eu nu am planul. Nu sunt perfect și nimeni nu este. În ziua în care cred că știu totul și nu cred că pot învăța lucruri noi, ar trebui să plec la țărm.

When you go through the canal the "adviser" (pilot) will always tell you too late when to go into reverse to slow and stop your 3 boat raft. He will be used to higher powered boats that don't have two extra yachts strapped on. I usually come to an agreement with him that he tells me where he wants me to put the boat and I will put it there. Don't be afraid to override him as you have a better feel for your boat than him.
In the first lock at Hatin' there will be a strong current flowing against you as the fresh water flows above the salt. It doesn't last long. The canal is beautiful…

Excellent episode – QUESTION – Thomas, can you explain your view on protected skeg rudders vs twin rudders or single spade unprotected rudders? I can't decide if this is a real issue. I keep hearing that if you circumnavigate then you "must" have a protected rudder or you are gambling with your safety. The youtube site Cat Circles has a new Outremer 55 and they had a huge rudder problem in Indonesia (hit a reef). Ditto for several other Catamarans. Is this not an issue for you?? What is your thinking on this.
Thomas, can you please do a deep dive, extensive episode on rudders and "blue water" sailboats. Really get into the issues please. If we do the Inside Passage to Alaska, which is known for tree logs, would you be scared with an unprotected rudder? What about South East Asia. Lots of bumping into things… Please dive into this issue and settle it once and for all. It really is the most pressing issue for people starting out. Think Kraken yachts, who constantly go on about their Zero Keel and protected rudder.

Yeah, that will stop most smaller boat from going through the canal.
But it will increase the number of cruisers going around South America.
Although someone with a 50 ft cat can probably afford the transit.
There sure are a lot of half million $$$ plus cruising boats now.
