Nice work, please wear your life jacket when sailing solo even in light winds, you never know if your going to get a gust that will knock you over, if you don't like old style bulky ones buy a inflatable one. I wear mine all the time and I don't even know I'm wearing it.
Looking forward to the next installment
Love the hat! CP16 was my first boat, learned to sail on her, they are awesome little pocket yachts! Wish I still had one. Fair Winds!
throw a bungee over the jib until you are ready for it. then it doesnt fall off the front for unloading and doesnt creep up the forestay until you are ready for it.
i really would like one of those. thatl mast looks to be a snap to raise
Nice. I was wondering what you guys have been up to. If you’re ever in the Tyler area, hit me up so you can teach me how to sail my Aquarius 21. It’s just sitting, waiting to get back out on the water.
Enjoyed your video. That boom is hanging a little low. Maybe less dangerous if you can get it raised up a little- new main sail would tighten it up a little. Fair winds and following seas!
@6:52 that's why it's called a boom
Awesome job! You're taking part in something amazing. Your sail might not be right size that's why your boom is low. It should be able to clear the cockpit during tacking without hitting you in the head.
Keep adding videos like this! I just bought a Compac 16 too and watching you rig her up was very helpful!
Attach the job halyard to bow rail while raising the mast to hold it while attaching forestay
Compac 16 is the most amazing boat. I love it. Gotta watch your head on the boom though LOL. Its a slow boat but it handles rough water amazingly. The best thing about it is it looks like a real sailboat with the round portholes.
best way to spend a sunny day I think
Lol. Sooo much to learn. Keep it up and happy sailing. 👍🏽
Just fyi if the boom is directly overhead, it’s wrong. Unless you’re closed hauled.. even then it’s at least arm distance away.
Nice video! I just put a deposit down on a '94 Com-Pac 16 – Soon to sail the gulf coast. Notice the Sailing La Vagabonde hat 👍
Great Stuff…Looking to purchase a 16 myself. Thanks!!
I'm in San Antonio looking at one of these boats now with dreams of doing the Texas 200.
Simple, fun, stable boat. Good choice for your comfort level. You can travel anywhere with it. Or keep it at a club. Overall very good choice and I hope you enjoy it for years to come.
Great video – thanks for sharing
So I just learned there are actually affordable sailboats and have been researching these for my first sail boat, as someone who also learned from doing what's your opinion?
I love when someone can laugh at their own mistakes, and including it in the opening shot is not only hilarious, but classy as well. 🙂
Wow, 20 minutes to set up!! I'm jealous. It takes me two hours at the ramp to set up or put away my 24 footer.
Had one late 80s . Loved that boat seaworthy well made
Mia…
Perfect video; THX
Ahoy, fellow Com-pac 16 owner! What a great video! I just bought a Com-pac Legacy (this boat is 16’ 6”) and will splash her for the first time this coming spring — I can’t wait! Watching your video was very helpful and I am really grateful to hear about your experience with your first sail on your boat! I’m looking forward to checking out your other videos! Fair winds and following seas! ⛵️
Hi, how did you mount the Y mast holder on the bow?
Five years later… I can only assume that your entire life changed is some way. I hope that it was for the better.
