You will LOVE the Vesper. They have recently been purchased by Garmin. I always found Vesper in New Zealand to be very responsive. The transfer to Garmin took a bit, but Garmin is now up to speed and I have had a very good experience. To your point, Vesper support is now through Garmin.

ST60 can be set to Master or Repeater. I assume yours's is set to Master. I am mentioning this just in case the settings have changed and it's expecting data from the Seatalk bus.

I had an ST60. The problem is the new one “alarms” the whole system. The ST60 is software upgradable through the chart plotter. I suspect a software incompatibility issue. Easy to check.I would assume the new one is Ok hardware wise and try two things:
1. Reset the ST60 back to factory default.
2. If one does not work, upgrade the software version on the ST60.
Your son is his dad mini twin. And willow is mix of you both now I think..
