It was a well written and illustrated article.
It's been awhile since I watched that episode. It was so good I think I'll watch it again.

Very cool, looking forward to reading it!
I just read the article and it was excellent! Your writing was like you were talking to me, it flowed really well. What a harrowing experience! Great job managing the situation and most importantly yourself! They say that we all experience a great amount of personal growth through tough times and you have proven that!
Hi James
New sub here, I watched that episode last night, seems you were going through some personal stuff at that time,
mother nature certainly gave you time to think about something else.
Well done on the article mate, blessings from south Western Australia
Wonderful article 💙🌞😊

Yep, I remember those videos. What a heck of a story you have! It's kinda neat that your story got picked up for a magazine; many more people will get to know about it now.

Cool James; you're marking your spot in history.
Just read the article and watched the video! Wow! Amazing! We’re very grateful that you made it safely thus far. We started watching when you left Hawaii and haven’t missed an episode since!! God speed!
Hello James – I put up a link in the group Pacific Voyagers to this post.
Congratulations!! I'll look out for the magazine. That was an incredible video at the outset of your amazing Pacific adventure.
I think it's pretty damn cool! Congrats dude!
Thanks! Love following your travels. I always dreamed about sailing but never made it further than sailing around San Diego Bay. Now I'm living my dream vicariously through your great videos. 👍
Nice feather in your cap!
As serious as the situation was, you handled the broken rudder like a boss. Made it look easy…just another day in the life of a sailor!
Enjoyed reading the details/back story.
Read The article. What an experience you had.
I love the sea and i also dream of being able to sail one day. Your videos are an inspiration. Reading the article, we realize that we have to "respect" the sea, but also there is often a solution to overcome the adversities encountered at sea.
Very good article.
Congratulations on your article. Being alone with many obstacles with weather and boat problems is amazing. It’s great to see you getting acknowledged for everything you have achieved.
Riveting read, and even more intense than the video.
I placed myself in your situation, wondering what I would do.
During your dive, I just wonder if a drift sock or two would have come in handy to slow you down while you worked? Of course, the drogue does the same so maybe that would have helped..
Fate was on your side with that drogue. Thank the Lord you didn't pitch it.
Great Man 🐬👍🏻
I haven’t read the article, but I like when you focus on the problem solving process and the interaction with your shore team. Not everyone is gonna lose steerage but it does generalize the lesson to more situations that more people will encounter.
Wow! That is some story – I must admit that I misjudged you, based on appearance (I think you get my meaning), yet there was always something that made me want to watch more of your videos. Over time I have concluded that you may become one of the top sailing channels on youtube. Well done sir!
Did you write and edit the article in yacht world your self?
Legend.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. We can all learn by doing so.
I have yet to watch the relevant episode, but I was wondering, isn't the Hydrovane meant to be a back up rudder as well as self steering?
Did you try steering with that, and was it inadequate, or what was the result?
Maybe a sea anchor would have been better for keeping the boat more still than the drogue while trying to tie up the rudder. Perhaps a spinnaker dragged in the water might do as an emergency sea anchor for this situation.
Interstate that you could steer with the drogue and the rudder freely swinging didn't adversely affect the drogue steering.
It's great to hear of someone sorting it out , unlike too many stories of recent years of yachts being abandoned for losing their steering.
Well done!!
