The second most amazing thing about this video was discovering the Nick can play the accordion! A man of many talents…
Hi guys! Thanks for showing the on-board sail flaking, have to give that a try the next time I have to pull the main (which I hope isn't anytime soon).
Is there much variance in the canal levels (and hence the air and water clearances)? I think France had a very rainy spring and now a very dry (and hot) summer. Did your A-frames have any wiggle room for adjustments if needed?
Cracking vlog guys and I did larf when yous was trying to saw the timber whilst standing on it braking the saw . Top job n bet it was stressful to say the least
😀
This is always stressful, did this first time with my dad in the eighties..
Nick my gut feeling is you over-engineered that support rig. but then again, I much rather have it over-engineered compared to suddenly have a mast come lose on the bow wave of a "shubferband" aka floating 18 wheelers of the kanals.
while I was wating videos of tiny houses, youtube suggested one of your videos. Since then, I sat and watch all your videos chronologically. What a delight. I am always looking forward for the next one.
Aren't you guys still in French polynesia ? Hanging with the Wynns?
Kudos to you guys! Wow, that was a good amount of work you did on your own in order to traverse through the canals of France. Can't wait to see your next video! Liza & Kaz 😎✌🏼🐶
Really liked Nick on the squeeze box! More! Nice build, even with the saw fiasco. Good job turning her into your very own sawzall!
Such a pleasant couple, and a great team. Nice to see 👍!
You´re awsome!
impressive feat of engineering. well done….and with no time Toulouse. (ba dum bum 🙂
So you guys chicken out and removed your catamaran review video… It was your best one.. are you guys becoming review pussys or what? 😉😊
I was amazed with your patience and determination when you were cutting wood beams with a hand held miter saw! 🙂
OMG, That was so much work. I would have realized it if I'd thought it thru, but I hadn't and seeing you do this just brings it home. Hopefully the experience of having your own home on the canals was worth it. Nice work Team! 🙂 <3
You 2 are influential in my life now. Believe it or not you've convinced me to stay in a mono. After watching your decision process whether to go to Catamaran, i realized that the only reason I wanted a cat was the cool factor. I'm single handed so I don't need the room. Price is a consideration. There are other influences but to complicated for here. From not liking your channel to loving it to being influenced by it. WOW!!! Hope you are at Annapolis so I can meet you two
thanks for ALL !!! have fun, hope you make it up to gulf de Morbihan, simply lovely !….they have a bi-annual " Semaine du Morbihan" which is a fun and well organized event !…success
Much work my friends, I understand the new experience motoring thru the canals of France and the opportunity to go thru all the rigging to verify conditions of the fasteners and such, but really this is a boat load of work, not sure I would have done it . But you two are gamers. Good Job.
Sailing Close-Hauled is where the wind angle is anything forward of a Beam Reach (90 degrees), Broad Reach is anything behind – except for directly behind which Down-wind or Running.
What a huge kefuffle for taking your mast down .. rather you than me .. if I had a boat that is
Binge watching all your episodes, really enjoying your travels and your friends. Thank you for taking me along, loving your adventures and you are a thoroughly nice couple and great fun.
Big balls project! I wouldn't do it. WOW!
After arriving in Tréguier and examining our boat with double head sails and all the associated electronics on the mast (18.5 m) we decided against removing the mast and shipping it… we were sorely disappointed in not doing the canals from Bordeaux to the Med but your video confirmed our right decision! Wow, what a project and the fact that we are a bit bigger 14.55m LOA and 4.03 beam…. we thought for the price of removing, packing, transporting and re-stepping the mast we could rent a canal boat reducing the insane stress that you went through (not to mention the amount of work). Well done you two, sorry we missed you. We sailed the outside across the Bay of Biscay to Camarinas Spain, down the coast of Portugal to Gibraltar… 1400 nm in just a few weeks. Not restful but … our boat is in one piece and still fully rigged ready to cross the Atlantic in a few months.
😲😲😀😀👍
Putting the adventure aside for the moment, how can this possibly be less of an effort than sailing the long way around?
Amazing work, you two! Nick playing the accordion was a surprise, for sure. Truly, man of many talents!
Port vendre… near my house why when i found an interesting Chanel 2 month after they are near me… fu..ing algorithme
Yes I would like to sail, i'm on a travelling mode and not experience of sailing. its a nice vlog and to see the canal. Bobby from Q. City Philippines.
Nick, you’re acerbic and witty and sarcastic (all excellent qualities) but you treat Terysa with wonderful respect and kindness. One more thing to like about you.
The accordion, Nick? You’ve thusly cemented your standing as the leading man of sailing vlogs. Of course, Terysa deserves no less.
After watching what you two and the DSII crew went through to prepare each of your sailboats to go through the canal, I think I'll just buy a canal boat for the trip and sell it on the other end 😀
@ 8:00, from the perspective in the video, I would say you are on more of a Close Haul.
Catching up on missed episodes and binge watching LOL ! Good job on unstopping the mast guys. Merry Christmas Nick and Terysa ! Fair winds and following seas Ruby Rose!
I would have taken the long way..cause this was too much work..and i don't think it was cheap.
At the risk of being pedantic I think it's a melodeon!
Fantastic video love the attention to detail. Looking forward to following you guys through the canals. Have kind of gone back in time after watching a few catamaran reviews which are great by the way. Nick has a future in construction for sure 😀😀
I'm still trying to figure out the transition between this mono hull and Europe and the Catamaran and Indonesia.
'Lotta' work… nice video thanks
These were the videos that originally caught my eye when I was watching a narrowboat video. I have faithfully watched every video from the beginning of the playlist and now finally what I have been waiting for. So excited! Thanks for sharing this with us.
Hi there Ruby Rose! I love your videos and it is a shame that this year when you were in Brittany, we did not meet up (I live here). Anyway, this video was really informative and ….. has totally put me off ever considering taking a yacht onto the French Canals. My dreams of a blue water boat (perhaps a nearly classic Contessa 43) with a 2 metre drought would not be possible anyway, but to add all of that prep work with the mast … I think that a quick sprint through the Straits of Gibraltar would be easier! Keep going , I promise to keep watching.
Awesome, love seeing people doing 1% ers……..sure you guys weren’t bikies in a previous life.
My husband uses these plans from Woodprix and is very happy with them. However. I love yours!
The posts in the shopping cart… I’m dying! 🤣
Hi, I'm interestood to buy a 12 meters sailing boat in La Rochelle or near there. So I've to cross canal do midi to come back in med sea.. I wish know the max draft admissible for the boat. I'm also interested to acquire all the info possible. Thanks
wouldnt it have been easier to rent a canal boat
