  1. I’m confused why you are doing all this work with the boat still in the water. Wouldn’t it be easier or cheaper to put it on land? You are two very hard working people. Keep up the great work❤

  2. It's normally considered unsafe to patch the sidewall of a tire and many tire repair shops will not do so. You can verify this with your tire manufacturer.

  3. I love Uma but I've go to say, I'm really curious to see what you two can do with a totally different boat. I'm sure you will be done with renovation work for a few years after this but maybe you find a hidden gem somewhere that calls to you.

  4. Uma's program to 'lose her weight' had a lot of help ! May she enjoy her refit and appreciate you two wonderful people taking such good care of her😍😎❤

  5. Getting rid of your sails/mast will definitely give you better range, although no longer transoceanic capable, it will be a better coastal cruiser.

  6. Don’t forget to consider replacing all the electronic sensors and lights at the top of the mast before you put it back up. Also, you might want to check your in mast wires and anything else inside such as interior halyards, not that I’m sure if you have any of those, but you get my point. Easier to work on the mast while it’s on the ground then upright on the boat.

  7. MOYS is a lovely marina to do all that work in; I was there a couple of months ago to join a yacht's crew and saw Uma at its berth but you weren't around! 👋

  8. While the mast is down, do consider installing a camera or two on it so when it goes back up, you can get some awesome shots from the top of the mast without needing a drone!

  9. Hi. That mast was very tall.
In winter time my dad would take the mast off our 16ft racing boat, it only just fitted up our stairs. We even brought the boat indoors 6mths for repairs. Tweedle-dee only just fitted thru t patio doors. And into our dining room. Those were happy memories. Amazing how much out the water Uma is wen she's empty. Take care and all the best. 😊😊

  10. Tire sidewall patches never hold entirely, unfortunately due to that being the most flexible part of the tire. Most shops (in the US anyway) won't even try to patch that and will just replace the tire.

  11. It seems like you could just measure the standing rigging, order new ones, and reassemble it yourself. Then you would have more confidence in all the fittings. Has the mast step deformed under the weight and tension?

  12. As you're learning, you can't fix a hole in the sidewall. Or even close to the sidewall in the tread. I'm surprised a shop would even attempt it.

  13. Bearer of bad news, sidewalls can't be patched to last. There is way too much movement for it to work. Keep adding slime, stopleak etc, until you can afford to replace it. Most if not all reputable tire shop will refuse to patch sidewalls. But, if you listen to the right people with little to no driving experience, you can patch it no problem, as they have a friend who knows somebody who heard of a guy who patched his sidewall and put 80,000 klicks on it. Also move the leaky tire to the rear. Front tire blowouts can be very difficult to control, especially on tall sidewall tires like yours
