dude you are setting tghis fires on superyachts just for content, no insurabce fraud implied ;)🧸
Good Work great news reporting
sure, it just "caught fire"
Greece fires are hard to put out.
Insurance job
The Greek coast guard vessel looked like a Damen support yacht. I know Damen make coast guard and military vessels, in addition to yachts and commercial ships, so I guess they made it?
As a marine tech I'm not surprised.. most likely an electrical fire due to lithium batteries. These are by far the worst batteries to have onboard within bigger systems.
Once discharged and not used normally, they exhibit odd behaviors, and once fully charged and used under a normal condition again, they fault out or overheat.
My recommendation is sticking with gel or AGM battery banks if within warmer climates.
I've seen these fail time after time and that's where I make a majority of easy cash, especially on insurance gigs.
I have experience fixing damage after fires onboard and it's 99% of the time electrical issues at fault.
Any vessel that's been sitting for more than 3 months should never be purchased!! Generally around the 5-6 month period is when a refit will be quoted on, and then be sold to a new owner shortly after.
I'm ABYC qualified and travel all over to perform service, and if I came across this one I guarantee the government wouldn't hire me on as it would cost them big money to bring up to code.
So now I'm curious who surveyed this vessel and why?
Also I have a 100 ton endorsement if that counts for anything.
Also spent 7 years offshore as a commercial fisherman/ relief captain.
As a former firefighter and paramedic, when I saw the title stating "…Fire in Greece," I knew it would not be good. It always amazed me how careless people are with fire. Worse yet, a Greece Fire is, as you said, are difficult to impossible to extinguish. It's a procedure in my home that we check the fire extinguisher any time we are frying something or using Greece in any other way. Here in the southern US where I live, we cook almost exclusively with lard. Maybe the Greece fire was caused by lard. I can tell you from experience, Greece fires using lard require special equipment and chemicals. When I was a kid, my mama broke off the top of a small pine tree and beat it out. By then though, the possum she was cooking wasn't fit to eat.
By the way, where was the Greece fire? Sounds like something a Russian would do!
Is the lack of impossible to hide fires aboard larger super-yachts a statistical fluke (due their smaller numbers), or a result of dedicating some of their volume and tonnage to design feature which prevent fires, and/or superior fire suppression systems?
How good are the Turkish built yachts? Are they comparable to the European yacht builders?
I'm told by yacht brokers that at least some of the rash of yacht fires have been caused by small lithium battery powered devices brought onto the vessel. The devices probably melted or exploded while being charged, causing a chain reaction.
Luckily no one was hurt !! Thank you for the video
the insurance cover those incidents? coz if a yacht cost 10-100 milion it will be hard to to compensate i guess
It is a shame with all the big bucks, engineering and technology they can't come up with a good fire suppression system.
must be a battery fire.
Destroyed for insurance purposes. Take the loss but never give it to the illegal government
High fog is a good fire preventing system – but my guess is that golden WC is more important on a M/Y
These are more than a coincidence. Between the downturn of the economy, global conflict and interest rates. Super yachts will continue to suffer casualties.
Why even buy such things when this stuff happens. Life is a bad joke
Schooner in Maine snaps mast, kills 1 injures others. 33 total on board, Coast Gard rescues injured. Per NECN.
Ah the alleged insurance job alive and well in 2023!
retribution !!!
Super carbon footprint yacht.
Fire Suppression systems or warning systems oddly…. never seem to work and Cost Millions of pounds, Yet my car will tell me sometimes wrong in seconds.
Seems to be a lot of Yachts burning lately. Is this a new trend, or have they always burned up and just not been newsworthy in the past?
Where is the nearest coast guard station? If it is 3 hours awat by boat, then their arrival 3 hours after call was made is normal and not indicative of the folks being on lunch break and waiting for it to be over before responding to an emergency. But if the coast guard station is next door then the 3 hours matters.
Jewish Lightening!
Smoking crack or what?!
Fires seem to be happening on a regular basis.
I would never a yacht previously owned by russian
Are these fires on what seems for so many super yatchs for real or is it about insurance $.
Is it just me.But aren't a lot of Yacht's being destroyed by Fire.??
A "green energy" scam??!! I'm SHOCKED, SHOCKED I tell you!
Hello everyone. I actually was currently working on this yacht. We are all very sad to see it go!! I love that all these people in the comments always have so much to say with so little facts…people are just bored and want to comment on anything I guess. The yacht was fitted with the Ultra Fog fire system. The winds were extreme that evening and made the fire impossible to fight. Crew were extinguishing the fire but it was too big too fast. Everything was up to code. All was checked and surveyed in the rercent months as the yacht was changing to commercial so many things had been newly upgraded. This was just a freak fire in terrible winds at night time and left the crew no choice but to abandon their vessel and save their lives. Navis One you will be missed by many!!!! I for one will remember all the good times and hard work spent on making you special.
Why so many yachts catches fire ?
Yachts sink and have fires alot! Odd!!
There were to many problems like fires, sudden sincking of Turkish produced yachts.
I would say that given the location of the start of the fire that the most likely cause will be a lithium power toy. I am amazed that the owners of these boats allow scooters, bikes and underwater electric propulsion toys.
Is it possible that these yacht fires are being caused by lithium batteries like all the EV fires now happening with electric vehicles?
Hi how com this boats burns so often? How can this boats be of so bad quality i wonder.
Interesting that no one commented on the fact the boat actually sunk next to Ano Koufonisi and not next to Mykonos which is 40nm NW from the last location. The AIS screen shots are pretty clear it is not Mykonos.
Lets hope everyone is ok from that yacht fire.
How many fires are of suspicious origin after they are investigated ? Insurance fraud ? Arson ?
with lithium batteries onboard every harbor is under threat. Would you want to park your 10 million pound yacht next to a boat filled with lithium batteries
Am I the only one that did not notice Mykonos on any of those charts
Yes here we are again..corupt persons ..
3 Hours for the Greek coast guard to react to the call to extinguish the fire? What are you complaining about?
Fire doubles in size every minute
