I enjoy Christian's sailing videos. His style and finesse is admirable with humour yet classic respect for the sea. I have learned a lot from watching.
Love IMP in the Corner and All your Video's Christian
Thank you.
I agree with the surreal feeling, of the silence, during a rain squall. Just finished sailing to Hawaii couple of weeks back. I read Raratonga. 😀
Christian Williams is a real life Patrick O’Brien character. Total erudite. I can imagine him breaking bread and drinking grog and discussing music with the likes of Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin. Coincidentally CW and Patrick O’Brien are two of my favorite writers!
Love to hear C.W.
Those heavy duty squalls are stronger these days because of the increase of the Suns intensity now that we are at Solar Maximum. Next year will be much of the same and after that each year it will be less.
Christian, I loved watching 'Philosophy of Sailing' (all parts 🙂 Your videos have a great impact on how I prepare for my sailing trips today, technically but especially philosophically, I lived in LA and Hawaii for some time, so I know the scenery a bit. I did not know you were using UK sails. Well, I should pay more attention to the details 🙂 We refitted our former boat, a 46ft Bavaria with carbon fibre sails. Yes, I know this is like tuning a Volkswagen with a V8 engine. That was 2020 during Covid and I remember the outstanding support by UK sails. Here in Germany all shops were closed, transportation was down and delivery actually not possible. But we met UK sails staff from Hamburg on an Autobahn for a hand over. The new sails (X-Drive Carbon) increased speed from formerly 6-7 to 8-10(!) close hauled/reaching. We were celebrating all day long, as you can imagine. Speed is also a safety factor (I used this to explain the invoice to my wife). Thank you Christian for all the great content. And I love your warning that you always have two boats: One you know, and the other one you perhaps don't know so well.
I love Christian’s videos. He makes me know that I can solo sail across the Atlantic.
Scholar and a Gentlemen!
This man has been my mentor and has no idea who I am.
A man that does it with thoughtfulness and style!
Thanks for this!!! After watching Christians sailing videos, no heating of a meal is complete without the “snare drum hits” of a wooden spoon 😁👍✨
What a great, old salt Williams is. I had to listen to this interview/conversation twice just to squeeze from it all that Christian has to impart; what a terrific guy. The mold was lost long ago; there will not be a fellow quite like him again, in my view.
[Denver, CO by way of Oyster Bay/Cold Spring Harbor where my tribe learned to sail including on Long Island Sound – Cheers to Christian Williams!]
"I'm doing all the things people do socially to survive encounters with each other." Love it!

❤❤😊
My hero
His books and videos are without equal for getting to know how to sail (my experience) a true gentleman and I was honored to meet Christian. Philosophy of Sailing, Alone Together and Introduction to Sailing are gems. My Ericson and Sailing ability are due to a single teacher.
AUDIO PROBLEMS with your system, high frequency on top of voices, your voice being the worst! We are avid supporters of CW and his story telling, second to non……
hardly recognize Christian Williams with out his boat
I love Christian!
Sounds like I should consult with Oliver before doing the Ha-Ha in November. Love the UK sails he put on my Hunter 38'
Hi Christian. Wondering if you would be willing to share what are the best anchorages in the Hawaiian islands?
Marvelous to see Christian again and am grateful to Brendan Huffman and UKSails for making this happen. I am in many ways someone who targetted his life course to to follow Christian's, in his wake by a few decades, but I must say that UI find Christian to be if not a, "Great American" (we must admit that role is remarkably well populated by remarkable persons historically at least) then a very, very good American. In style, in problem-solving, in art and literature I feel great Kinship with the Christian. He is a man whom I constantly find myself thinking of, maybe something of his he's written or a youtube gem… we share much in our perspectives on sailing and the arts, writing… I too spend a great deal of time alone, for me working the BC Çanada coast north of humanity's last small hamlets, well ''off-grid'', working a log salvage license and oyster aquaculture permits, aboard my 42 ft wooden 1952 built former fishing troller and a large aluminum herring skiff. Later, back in civilization, I was a SARtech lifeboat fulltime volunteer, some tugs, a lot of 30ft RIB whale watching, and other coastal jobs for 25 years.Christian is a sailer after my own heart, and I take his advice and observations very seriously. Thank you again, Christian, and for virtually taking me aboard Thelonius while I've been confronting a gruesome does of cancer.
WOW. Great guy.
When you search in the dictionary under “lives well lived”
You will find a little thumbnail and icon of Christian Williams.
Thank you for another informative and entertaining video.
I also avoid music while sailing.
Great interviewer! Thanks
Christian is an inspiration and a true legend. His videos have inspired me to tackle comparatively modest long distance adventures on my own boat, and also renewed my love for jazz and Monk in particular. One day I too will travel from the west coast to Hawaii…Dinty Moore stew in the pan, and rum cocktail in hand. Until then I rewatch his videos for hours….
Thank you!!
You are the man!
He's a sceptic tank, what's going on in the world, maybe UK doesn't mean United Kingdom.
It's all been saved by Christians narrative, he's a pleasure to listen to.
How many years does it take to become a master at sailing so that you CAN solo-sail to Hawaii?
More please.
“I Am a Strange Loop”, Douglas R. Hofstadter. Author of “Goedel, Escher, Bach”. Great video.
