A number of people have asked if they can help support my channel – I don't have any adverts on my channel (and don't intend to) but if anyone wishes to help defray the expenses of making these videos in some small way, they can buy me a cup of coffee! https://www.buymeacoffee.com/MarkJohnMaguire

On reflection it is a depraved act in every sense. The two people who agreed on the murder decided that the other two would be potential victims.
And then settling on Parker, a minor. The strong settling on taking the life of the weak to prolong theirs. It's a reprehensible act and the law is there to guide your actions precisely when you are in very difficult situations.
It's good there was a degree of compassion and understanding for the men on their return but they surely didn't deserve it. Life at all costs, incuding killing a child really isn't something to be celebrated or defended.
The judge was very wise, however, in avoiding an acquittal in this case.
What a harrowing tale, told by the most eloquent of storytellers. Thank you for this, a captivating hour. You have been missed.
Oh wow, Richard Parker has a memorial at Peartree church in Woolston Southampton a short distance from where I live atm. I lived in woolston as a child a knew the church well, as part of a Annexe of the school I attended, so have seen the memorial. Always a tale that intrigued me. We have quite a bit of maritime history here including the Titanic museum! Double wow, new book too!
If only they'd transported The Mignonette to Australia by road, none of that would have happened.
I was so glad to see your story today, well covered , very tragic, gosh what a predicament that must have been ..soo sad RIP Richard xxxxxxxxxxxx
Mark, YouTube refuses to allow me to directly reply to your comment, but: Thank you.
Under the law of several American jurisdictions in 1884, "irresistible impulse" was a viable insanity defense as a dissent to McNaughton. The defense is entertainingly represented in the 1959 movie Anatomy of a Murder, based on a novel by a Michigan Supreme Court Justice and featuring the nemesis of Joe McCarthy, Joseph Welsch playing the trial judge.
Ravenous hunger might be an irresistible impulse. It is for me, 2 hours before the lunch hour.
Welch. He didn't welsch.
poor Richard. thank you for telling his story. love your work.✨
Great to have you back! An early Christmas present for sure. So well written that I can listen to your content more than once. Keep up the amazing work and all the best wishes of the season to you!!
Truly amazing video ty
Thank you.
As a child in late 1960s I visited the memorial to the unfortunate Richard Parker. I had a school friend of the same surname who said he was related to Richard’s family. The stone is still there and tended to.
I wonder if there would be any doubt if you needed a drawn straw if it was either a jurist or politician?
Glad to see yu again 🙌🏽💗
I'm so happy you're back. I hope everything is fine with you. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year's.
John, you are the best. You are also the only one whose video starting with “Cannibalism”… I would ever have wanted to watch/ listen to. Indeed, I think you could have dispensed with that keyword as all of us following your channel will listen to your cases, whether they are “Death by comfy chair” or “How to assemble an Ikea couch”. And I forgive you for the fact that now, Youtube keeps suggesting all these cannibalism clips to me. What happened is, after all, fact. Excellent storytelling as ever.
Thank you
I know a fascinating story. "Milton Terra Verdi". There's a book with his notes after him and his brother-in-law got lost in a jungle after their plain fell. Real story. I've never complained about anything in life after reading his diary.
There's a book called "Diary of Death." I read it when I was a teen.
Another gem! This is truly an extraordinary story! Apparently, man can do anything in order to survive. A moral quandary! So tragic that this seventeen- year old boy would have his life taken away from him against his will…I love your videos and analysis of every incident you cover. As usual this video has a sophisticated legal analysis. Thank you, Mark, for this thoughtfully and well presented case of maritime tragedy .
For me, this was the most distressing case you have covered. Oh that poor boy realising they were about to slaughter him… just ghastly. Wonderfully narrated and comprehensively discussed, as always.
Excellent as always. Great story telling and the ability to make me think out of my norms. Thank you!!!
This was the most difficult case to date, Mark! I was swinging back and forth as you made the arguments. So glad I will never be in the position of these four people. Peaceful seasons greetings.
I look at this case and wonder if it was where Monty Python got the idea for the skit involving stranded navel officers on a lifeboat planning to eat the one with the gammy leg who is willing to let them do it. 🤔
I hope Mark will do his yearly funny tale involving those silly people of that villiage for this Christmas. Its tradition.
This was quite gruesome, but I welcome your videos all the same. Thank you Mark.
Outstanding! Got off work about an hour ago. Sitting here trying to find something to watch…and then BAM! This popped up. A most excellent choice. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas & Happiest New Year.😊
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!❣
As usual, a well thought out narrative!
Why did they confess to the murder? They could have pushed the body overboard before the rescuers arrived and said he died naturally. They must have been confident that they would not be charged with murder but 'the custom of the sea' would prevail. Surprising that Parker's brother shook hands with them, even though he was after money.
What a story! Thank you for this channel. Greetings from Evergreen, Montana, USA. ❤❤❤❤
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
That poor unfortunate child named Richard Parker w/ an unfortunate start in life w/out parents then to have done to him what was done💔
😁🇨🇦🤟
Absolutely fascinating thank you
