Suntem Duca și Roberta, un cuplu brazilian care în timpul unei călătorii sabatice în 2016 a decis să ne urmeze visul. Așadar, am creat „Odd Life Crafting”, un proiect compus din multe proiecte mai mici pe care le numim anotimpuri. Prima a fost crearea Odd Life Crafting. Ideea era să construim o barcă de metal pentru a putea călători prin lume luându-ne casa cu noi, dar nu aveam bani pentru asta. Așadar, am început sezonul următor: am construit o casă mică de containere de transport maritim, fără experiență anterioară în construcție, pentru a dobândi niște abilități pentru a construi o barcă. Când aproape am terminat, am găsit o barcă la 700 km de orașul nostru natal care a fost neglijată timp de peste 22 de ani și am petrecut 2 ani reamenajând-o (Sezonul 3).   2. My wife and I have sailed the coast of Alaska for 20+ years, We have had humpback and killer whales (we call them Orcas in Alaska) come very close to us in our 30 foot sloop. We haven't had any problems so far. I do try to keep a several 100 meter distance from them but sometimes they come over to check us out and they move a lot faster than we do. I have had them come so close that we would get sprayed in the cockpit when they blew with stinky whale breath. 🙂 They seem to be quite aware of our presence. My experience is that my sailboat motor (20 horse Yanmar diesel) doesn't bother them nearly as much as power boat motors. I think it has to do with the high pitched propeller whine with high speed power boat propellers is annoying to their sensitive hearing. Up here they are more focused on feeding than breeding. The Orca pods will create a "bubble" net to herd a school of salmon into a tight ball and then one of them will leap 20 feet into the air and belly flop on the salmon to stun them and the rest of the pod feeds on the stunned salmon. It's an amazing sight. The humpbacks do something similar, they shoot straight up out of the water half their body length and fall back down. They target smaller fish like salmon smolt (baby salmon) and herring. I keep a good distance from them when they are doing this. A good pair of binoculars gives you a great view from 300-400 meters.   7. I was hoping at some point y’all would cover capoeira or the Gracie jujitsu. I knew what was up right when I heard the berimbaus. Any reason why you didn’t show more? The aging a is a beautiful thing to watch.

  8. Two hour shifts are comfortably short, but that means the off watch is also too short for proper rest. My preference when sailing with only two people is to aim for at least 4 hours, preferably 6 hours. That makes it way easier to stay rested for a longer passage. I’ve done long double handed transits with 3 hour shifts. It invariably leads to both being super tired.

  12. Don't be afraid of the language or the food. Please. As an American who knows a little Spanish, Fr*nch, German, and English, Brazilian/Portuguese doesn't make any sense. But I'm here for it.
