Navigand in vant

Este ușor să vezi cum navigau riggerii pătrați înaintea vântului, dar cum au navigat (și cum) navele cu pânze în vânt? Rob arată cum.

  1. I had a friend I was a kid who used to be in the coast guard, we would go fishing every weekend and he would teach me about this stuff and just about everything he learned sailing all over the Pacific and Atlantic in Hitler's Private Sailboat that the U.S took as a war prize and repurposed it for the Coast Guard. 😂

  2. My god, this has literally blown my mind. For so many years I have not understand how boats sail into wind. I always assumed it was something to do with air circulating within the curves of the sale, but it's completely the opposite. It's how the wind hits the outside of the bend that causes it to turn and then the centre board does the rest. Incredible

  3. Wow. I spent 2 weeks on a yacht when I was 12, and none of this stuff ever crossed my mind. The zigzagging left and right makes a lot more sense now.

  4. As far as I know an airfoil functions according to the Bernoulli equation. An increase in velocity results in decreased pressure. With a sail the velocity on both sides of the sail are the same, but there is a change in direction causing a force.

  5. Square rigged boats however where able to turn the entire sails left and right usually making them able to sail against the wind, except the black zone ofc which is from 45°left to 45° right against the wind

  6. And here I thought games like Assassin's Creed 4 and Wind Waker letting you go against the wind was purely for gameplay…
Granted, you'd still have to take down and rig the sails properly rather than just going in any given direction so that obviously was cut for gameplay. But the fact that it was possible to sail against the wind at ALL was something I thought was pure bullshit and there just for convenience!
