  1. Hi Jared,
I’m going to give Blue Water a call today. Hope to take a few courses as a refresher before my boat comes. What’s the 90% off Jared discount code again? lol

  2. Hey everyone. I know not everyone is interested in being crew but as we speak I have over 100 messages on Instagram all asking me the same question. "WHERE DO I START". Here. This is where you start. Hope the video helps the new guys.

  3. Always nice to see an example of your paid work as well !! Keep up the great work – can’t wait to see more !!

  4. Very interesting. Never saw a Video that is about those topics but searched for that for a while. Keep up your good work is all i Can say to you and you will reach 100K Subscribers in a few months.

  5. Still interesting, my curiosity is on how you've mentioned linking up crew to the specific boat. I wonder is does that partly involve the tastes and type of the owner? Meaning I could see some owners want to be catered to with every whim while others may be more of a sure set the table/buffet but I'm good after that.

  6. The basic courses you need to get a job as deckhand/stewardess are Elemantary First Aid, PSSR, Personal Survival Techniques and Fire prevention.. Also if going for a Deck officer its always better to get a Certificate of Competency (COC) then courses like the RYA Yachts master offshore, same goes with engineering, COC beat Approved Engine Courses..

  7. I did this in high school. + there was a simulation of a helicopter crashing into the ocean and we had to get out. (Falck safety and services)

  8. Hi Jared! Firstly, thank you for these awesome informative videos. I really enjoy watching them and they are SUPER HELP FULL. I only recently decided I'd like to do this and you are just making the decision easier by every video. ( Even the "tough love" ones ). I grew up in the Tsitsikamma in the Garden route, so I developed a huge love for the coast and the ocean. I go deep sea fishing or angling with dad whenever we get the chance. I've also done my open water diving coarse when I was 16 ( I'll have to do a refresher on that one though). I grew up on a farm with two brothers. My dad didn't handle me any different from them , had to jump in and do my part with hard labor 😉 so I love working with my hands and not afraid of hard work. A question I have is: Is it common for ladies to be Deck Hands? Or is it rather something cut out for men only?

  9. Oh wow, it is very similar to the various trainings I had to become a flight attendant, for all the marine things in case of ditching.
    Very interesting to see that.
    Thank you for the video.

  10. I just finished up my first season as a deckhand on a cruise ship (mainly steering, line handling, and security). I’m looking at transitioning to an interior position on a yacht in the Mediterranean. Is it absolutely necessary to know how to swim during STCW training?

  11. Can I go into this industry with tattoos? Only one public friendly one on my leg other wise if it’s not visible it’s fine? As well is long hair alright? I’m planning on doing my course in March and would just like to know if I have to cut it? I’ve only ever seen guys in your videos with short hair…

  12. Is there any advantages /disadvantages to take the STCW course (and other related courses) in Europe as apposed to the US where I reside? Lastly do employers have preferences on which academies employees receive their certs. from?
