again, get a sail and fly a hull !
cool music 👍
You might need to add some strength to the beam, because it’s not designed to be lifted at the center mast base over the dolphin striker. This could maybe be done with a couple of compression struts and some cable but it might hinder your freedom for flying the kite.
As the last surviving member of the Bee Gees it's good to see Barry is "Staying Alive" by exploring new hobbies.
Good shit sam
sam you are the maybe the only one with good taste in music in the hole kitesurf scene! cheers
that cat is just begging for foils my friends. Foils will also make for a dryer ride!
What about a seat for the kite pilot that is mounted on a bearing that follows the lines of the kite?kite pilot would not have to swithch legs the way you have to now..
So this is what rich ppl do all day. Cool.
well, may be sometime better, I guess depend on strong wind speed.
Can you imagine the speed you would get if you made it into a ring hydrofoil? Whoa 😳. Good job fellas
Maaaaan! I
Sam, motor mount WOOD FIBERS need to be VERTICAL bqs horizontal will break and MOTOR WILL DROP INTO OCEAN. KEEP WATER OFF HOT MOTOR BLOCK BY ADDING TRAY AS SHOWN ON MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL. I have Hobie 18 with 6hp and short shaft. Yes you need short shaft but the drawback is propeller catching air on open ocean so you have to set crew weight farther back to heel boat a bit and keep propeller in the water. I kept original rudder rigging by adding a third crossbar to which motor is attached. Contact me for detail photos of tray to keep cold water from heating hot motor block bqs it will stall at long full throttle trips or you could crack the block. do you have some datasheets about this project like performance by wind conditions? i'm really interesting in it!
Hey Jeff Logosz…Can you imagine how far you and Toni have taken this Voyage and brought so much to others lives….I look back on the day we drove from Hood River to the beach with your prototype kite and buggy….Now look…Good Job!
ur so dope man!!!!
This could be a race event! 2-man crew that switches over one steering one kiting. Long distance races. or short ones. I would watch.
Wowww,, What a great success project, my congratulations for that, I love it so amazing. What is this place of the tests with it?
You should be able to solo sail the cat if you used your feet for steering the rudders.
Using a bar bolted to the center beam extending forward to support a center bolted pole for your feet to rest on which would have lines at its ends going back to control the rudders. This would probably also help you to better support yourself and mostly if you add a back rest. I Don’t know if this navigating seat would need to swivel or if it can stay fixed? I’ve also been thinking of using a kite to navigate a foiling cat. Shouldn’t be that complicated. Thanks for sharing mate!
Awesome idea, well done. Hopefully all those old abandoned hobbies will come back to life.
Can you tack?
Seems like the engine bracket or how you call it brakes a lot :/ but nice to see theses kite performing well on old kats 🙂
And upwind?
Halfvind works but against the wind….
Nice view from the air
can i suggest fitting a seat then one man could operate , steer with feet
Compared to its original sail say, you say kite sails well upwind eh? can you navigate to a destination or is it just messing about, don't know shit about kites man.
Foil it!!!
But bring a helmet.
That’s the future of performance and performance cruising catamarans and trimarans….. and monohulls that have the strength for it.
looks so fun.
Looks like a lot of fun.
Could this kite system work on a bigger vessel of 30 meters long . Would it also work on a bigger catermaran hull . On a 30 meter hull what would the size of kite be
🔝🏆🏆🏆🏆
What size of kite did you use for this video?
I suppose once you learn how to tack with the wind you can really go places
Are those stock 800# Slingshot front lines and 600# rear?
I recognized the Hobie 18. Got a Hobie 21 SE … I have converted (part time option) as a paddle boat w anchor and Bimini shade roof, … to promote some group snorkeling fishing aerobic exercise adventures. That boat glides like two knife blades in the water. QUESTION: Is the mast base a good place to anchor a big kite, …or would have a frame at front of cat, maybe with pivotable seat … Be Any Better ??? in your opinion ???
The music made me stop watching the video 🤯👎
👍
Судя по тому, что обратно шли на моторке. Против ветра резаться не получилось…:(
Very cool, how big is the kite itself?
Awesome new way of sailing !!!
this is sick, first video I have seen on this.. I have tried it but never hooked into the hull of a boat like that
How much upwind you are able to go?
Aaand this is why I don’t feel fulfilled, I’m not doing this on the weekends!
So rad! Anything you would change? I wanna do something similar
Very cool. May I ask windward performance? Minimum angle to the wind? Wonder how it compares to a hobie with a sail?
Well done chaps. Always knew it was a good option for those stranded cats
never expected it to rip like that with off the shelf stuff.
insane new era of sailing come here pls.
Have your considered mounting the wind sail base plate slightly up on a sliding Sampson post-like device so the sail operator could kneel or even possibly stand to aid trim, crucial for speed and also excellent for comfort on long reaches and runs? Emulating the body position of a kite surfer and the ability to instantly maneuver the kite could wring out a few more knots. By having it slide fore and aft, you'd achieve nearly infinite adjustment for trimming the boat. Or would there be too much windage and slow you down? At 25 knots, you're probably right at designed hull speed and it's sailing flat. It can't get too much better than that from your current design parameters. A bit of glass work on the dagger boards by working in a bit of foiling effect might get the boat up into the mid thirties but increasing the risk of pulling her out of the water and then pearling back in. Have fun, be safe and thanks for taking us on the rides.
