  1. Glad you enjoyed your stay at Rock and Dock in Cleveland. We enjoyed meeting both of you and talking to you in Geneva. We are heading up to Mackinac Island and Lake Michigan in August. Maybe we will meet again! Thank you for sharing your journey. John and Pam from M/V Jo-Ela.

  2. Kelley’s Island is our favorite…now that we are older. Though there is a restaurant on PIB that serves my favorite drink of all time…the basil mojito!

  3. There are marker buoys for at least 7 known wrecks on the lake, a number of which you may motored past and confused with crab pots. Or they could be fishing net floats.

  4. Glad you got to "put in" at Put in Bay. Lots of history here during the war of 1812. The Pennsylvania Navy's only ship, The Brig Niagara, was pivotal during Admiral Perry's Victory. For those who do not know, here is a synopsis:

In the first unqualified defeat of a British naval squadron in history, U.S. Captain Oliver Hazard Perry leads a fleet of nine American ships to victory over a squadron of six British warships at the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812.

The battle was closely contested for hours, and Perry’s flagship Lawrence was reduced to a defenseless wreck. He then transferred to the Niagara and sailed directly into the British line, firing broadsides and forcing the British to surrender. Perry had won a complete victory at the cost of 27 Americans killed and 96 wounded; British casualties were 40 dead and 94 wounded. After the battle, Perry sent a famous dispatch to U.S. General William Henry Harrison that read, “We have met the enemy, and they are ours.” The Battle of Lake Erie forced the British to abandon Detroit, ensuring U.S. control over Lake Erie and the territorial northwest.

  5. Those are markers for what are called Pound Nets. Pretty common in Western Lake Erie. They catch carp and catfish that are often air freighted to the Fulton Fish Market in NYC.

  6. Sam & Rev.,
It was so nice to get to meet you and have the steak dinner at Anchor Pointe Marina. I wish I could convince you that it doesn't rain EVERY DAY, at Anchor Pointe Marina. Just when I plan to do something special..! If my boat ( KOKOMO ) had been ready for guests, I would have invited you both aboard.. But the season has been less than "boater friendly" this year.. I hope you enjoyed the visit to Lake Erie, and will come by our way again… Fair Winds and Following Seas, Captain Richard and 1st Mate Joyce…..

  7. Added thought:
Lake Erie is not ruff… Well.. Not until you see the white caps atop the 10 to 15 foot waves, in the South Passage between Marblehead and Kellys Island..! (As a retired Coastie, I've been there and done that, in a 24 foot RBI…) However, now that I am retired… I have a little more sense and stay at the slip for anything over 4 to 6 foot..!

  8. Glad you enjoyed Cleveland. Hope you heal well. Lake Erie waves sometimes wash over the Shoreway, I 90/Ohio 2. Really interesting during winter storms. Good sailing to you.

  9. Wow. Have you never been in anything bigger than a stream before? That was a normal day on Lake Erie, where I have been boating for years. Go back to the ICW. Those were fishing nets you ran through. Lucky you didn't foul a prop or rudder.

  10. Whip up the winds a lot quicker is an understatement about Erie. The worst part isn't even the wave height. It's the troughs. They can be within a couple feet of the bottom. And the waves can hit from 2 or 3 directions. I took a friend from Toledo to Put-In-Bay and had to anchor east side of Little Sister due to a nasty fast moving storm. He's from Miami and said he'd take a storm in the ocean any day over Erie. And yes Put-OUT-Bay is insane on the weekends. The winery is nice too.

  11. There is a strange Background noise noticeable in this video, Sounds like someone learning the recorder or locked an animal in a closet or something else.

  12. That is my neck of the woods. live in the western burbs of Cleveland. Next time around check out vermillion and Kellys Island. more family, relaxed than cleveland and Put-in-bay.

  13. YEAAA!!! PUT IN BAY !!! as I said in other post, used to go there every summmer for family vacation…. Port Clinton ( Sandusky Bay actually) family was from Port Clinton ''area''

  14. PEOPLE GET YOUR SPLOTCHES CHECKED OUT!!! GO TO A MOLE DOCTOR !!! it's important!! specially if you lived in the 60s thru 80s when they used OIL to be a friggin magnificing glass for the suns ….damage… shudder… yea…

  16. AWESOME you did PUT IN BAY right!!! COOL DEEAL I really wanna go back there again to ''check my memories'' lol maybe I should just leave the memories forward lol sigh… yea I would still golf cart all around that island PUT IN BAY for old times sake, would have to go into the Crystal Cave again too, did you do the caves??? very nice to do when it's like SUMMERTIME HOT there… just in case you FLY IN there at a later date to do it ''more surgically'' 😉

  18. Never seasick until went below to get bait out of freezer and lost horizon. Didn't get sick, but really believe open view best to combat. Of course, even some old salts end up losing it and usually on a day everyone else fine. Don't really know what advice to give. Starting to feel it, to late for Dramamine

  19. Had a cruiser on Lake Erie behind Cedar Point for a couple of seasons. It's no joke. Rogue waves and conditions can change real fast. Being shallow as it is the waves are irregular and that's what makes it so dangerous and sketchy at times. You can be in 3 to 5 ft rollers cruising along and boom an 8 to 10 ft rogue wave will rock your world. Lots of boats and ships have been sank on that lake. I've crossed it when it was a sheet of glass too. It's bipolar. Spent many of days docked at PNB. The Key West of the North. Lots of fun..
