Unbelievable impressive machine and it’s captain
Pip-you mentioned your meals that you have while racing. What is your typical caloric intake for 24 hours while racing?
Solo sailing a 60" ?
This boat knows how to win the Vendee, so give it a chance.
Were I so brave and aware about what's going on around me.
Wow.
Her ,not the boat🙌
She’s a beast. The boat is amazing as well.
Cannot wait to see you racing her!
Thanks, Excellent intro to Medallia custom systems. SV Skoiern IV
Go Pip. Go luck to all.
awesome. good luck☺
Lots and lots of tea…..its the way forward! GO PIP!
Excellent walkthrough. Thank you for sharing this with us Pip. All the best.
Amazing. Both the boat and its skipper .
Pip is my favourite offshore sailor!
✨🌸✨ ~~~ Pip ! ~~~. 💥💥💥~~~ ❤~~~. 🔥🔥🔥🔥~~~ on Fire ! ~~~ ✨🌸✨
Pardon my ignorance. I've seen multiple crew on a racing sailboat that do the hand cranking. Grinders?
This is the first time I've seen a single hand crank. What does it do? Is it for hydraulics? Or is it for trimming sails? Trim is unlikely i think, but….. lol
I'm very interested in racing, but also a complete sailing novice.
Thanks for the tour. What an ugly stupid boat! Sailing is supposed to be for fun, didn’t see any fun theyah. I undahstand that ocean racing boats should be fast and efficient, but this thing is fast, efficient and utterly opposed to the traditions of the sea. She does not appear to be one with the sea, but a beast set to dominate the sea……..to her own peril. No one or vessel can or will conquer Neptune and his realm, of that you can be shuah!
Pip is a weapon.
I think you have earned the respect and adoration of anyone who considers themselves, sailors.
Your courage, knowledge, strength and passion for the sport is unparalleled. Wish you the best of luck with your new Medallia.
What a great insight. I've watched countless videos on ocean racing and this is the most honest and informative. God speed Ms Hare.
A great explanation of aspects of the boat and how Pip sails it.
Pip, I'm thinking this is more complicated than being an astronaut! So impressed with your knowledge and preparedness.
Probably perfect précis of the best approach to single-handed ocean racing…. Ocean racing was described by William F. Buckley, Jr., when he was contesting Newport-Bermuda in his own boat, as "Standing under an ice cold shower tearing up $100 bills". 1970s. Now the boats are made of unobtainium. Private racers vie with corporate sponsors for scarce expertise and yard space. The solo sailor pushes the limits of sleep science. This is one of my favorite all-time videos. She is one of my heroines.
For moving the sail stack, work out a system using the winches. Maybe have a Teflon piece of material or fabric you can attach where needed and then winch the sails across that more slippery runner. Sail bags would need strong attachment points so you could hook a line to them and drag them. Or perhaps have one side of sail bag made with a slippery fabric so they slide easy
Interesting video, thanks for that! But please, just use a shotgun mic with a deadcat or a lavier and set it to auto, it’s really not that hard to level a microphone….nevertheless, love those kind of in detail videos
Saw Medallia at Poole yesterday – what a beauty! Just phenomenal. Fingers crossed for 2024.
Fantastic boat and kudos to Pip for how she has learned to get the most out of the beast. Very admirable. Love the full-on racing mode for the boat, no fancy stuff at all…
I've been following Pip since the last VG and I can honestly say that she is my hero. Go Pip!
So happy to see Pip in this boat! 🙂
Not every video is able to put you inside like this one has. When Pip show us her nav station, where she often get rest, and than the jetboil, when I saw how she is on her knees, head touching a structure of this yacht – at this moment I felt something in my stomach. It was not like a burning adrenalin driven feeling that I need to get aboard one of those things, but rather a real reminder that this are one of the most brutal yachts you can sail on. Hats off to Pip.
Hell your a different breed, Awesome to see the passion and the kitchen part made me laugh hard…
Thank you Pip. Whilst a sailor myself, the step up to modern day IMOCAs is huge – these videos are a massive help in understanding the boats and how they are handled, as well as appreciating you and what you are doing. It really helps to engage as a supporter and understand and appreciate what is going on. Awesome!
Wow. She's help me understand more about what they do in 3 minutes than I knew in my entire life. Amazing!!
What a boat and what a truly inspiring person she is. I love racing, but that’s a fascinating insight into the very highest level
110hp to drive the foil and sail controls? It'd be faster with the motor connected to a prop. Isn't this just a very complicated motorboat?
What an absolutely astonishing vessel. That you Pip for showing us around her.
this is so insane. such massive respect
Pip, you are such a star. The ordeal you willing embrace overwhelms me: the wet, the noise, the temperature, the weight, the sleep pattern and so much more. I will eagerly await your 'feed' on the Route du Rhum.
wow you are hardcore! what a cool boat.
In all due respect. Pip looks warn & past her prime.
How is it she remains at the top? Why aren't many younger women crashing thru the waiting list for taking the helm.
Pip is bright, agile, focused & over the top loaded with skill..yet over the top kind of granny🎈
under international shipping laws there must be someone on watch at all times how do they let these people get away with this
