A masterpiece. A must see. From New York
Beautiful. Be safe and always be in the moment.
Oh how i yern for one day returning back into the liveaboard life. Scooped up a female and in order 2 retain a first mate tragically as this story yeilds, a captain must remove his sealegs.
So much feeling received, thank you for such a terrific job.
What a reckless oldman. Afraid to confront life so he ran. This shouldn’t be celebrated but frowned upon.
Sailor!? He looks and acts like a drunk who is so wasted he can barely stay conscious.
"lived foolish"? ROFL. His life made more sense than mine. And and it still means more.
i could not help to be overcome by this feeling of foreshadowing and warning that befell me as i live and endure similarly to Johnsen. Now looking into my future i hope i dont fall victim to my yearning to explore as in my old age i do not wish to find myself consoling my issues with rotgut liqueur which seems to be the demise of most cruisers, but in solace of a family i have created, one can only wish this is not promised and i cant thank you enough for this display of life
I love this. It’s like the dark side of margaritaville
Interesting, all old alcoholics I met (and I met my share) were a millionaire at some time in their life. Must've been many many millionaires back in the 60s and 70s.
R.I.P
Kdyby curak jel do Irska dělat solary, tak se mu to nestalo 😀
Wow!!! Respect to all sailors, fishermen, and any other that just enjoy the sea. This was a deep documentary to watch but definitely one of the best ones I've seen in a long time. Salute. Rest easy Paul.
Lived somewhat of a gypsy life for five decades and have to say, I found this story disturbing. As I plan to transition from land to sailboat and discover distant cultures, I'm fearful of leaving what shallow roots I've got behind and ending up alone like our friend here. Alone and perhaps questioning life choices. I feel for the man not having a roof over his head in his dying days I believe we just witnessed. A frail man torn between familiarity and what could've been, out of time to change course. Thank you for sharing.
I had a fishing kayak once, I’d like too ok think this is somewhat like me 👍
Its like Lemmy Kilmister pilosophy
top tier movie, awesome story, absolutely flawless camera work. RIP Paul – you did it
If it were a few hundred years ago, this old boy wouldve been roaming the Caribbean on a pirate sloop. I imagine most pirates were just like this.
Hi everyone, if you liked our film THE SAILOR, we would like to introduce you to our special making-of series, which shows many interesting details from behind the camera and provides some additional insights into the life of Paul Johnson.

great documentary, interesting man, the mechanic what a treasure….. Bless them all.🌹❤
He lived his life. It's that simple.
This guy has been a alcoholic for awhile…shame.
'Ngul che zezzone 🥰
I liked something about it because I watched it all. Nonetheless I felt like the movie never started. There was a long commercial on and once it finally ended the movie was over as well.
