My wife and I bought a Tayana 48 last May. Currently cruising the Bahamas. Learning a lot. We hope you love your new boat as much as we love ours. The tank under our master berth is for diesel but it sounds like yours is for water. They are all a little different. Good luck!
Well done brilliant and the number one thing you never do with teak is scrub it along the grain ALWAYS ACROSS THE GRAIN and don't oil it as it attracts the dirt and is messy

A great choice of vessel. I do not think you can go wrong there. The teak decks are best replaced rather than repaired, and many teak decks are just teak on top of fibreglass–comparatively easy to fix. I would replace the teak decks with High grade Airex PVC foam sandwich and on the top layers of glass, apply a good quality non-skid. Teak is an on-going problem best avoided, and foam decks are cooler in summer saving power, and help hold in warmth in winter. My $0.02.
To combat smells of bacterial origin such as mould and bacterial contamination I use Wet-and-Forget, or its generic name Benzalkonium Chloride solution. Safe, non-corrosive, and eliminates mould better than anything else. I used it in my Trimaran which always smelled like mushrooms before-and I tried everything including Oil of Cloves which was horrendously expensive and partly effective only. Using Benzalkonium Chloride solution, all mould and smells vanished. Magic stuff.
One can buy it in several brand names and concentrations as a mould-killer from swimming pool supplies or hardware stores. Not cheap but four litres of the concentrate lasts decades when used every six months. Furthermore, It us used in medicine as an antiseptic on wounds too–so it is SAFE.
I do not use chlorine, and I do not use vinegar because it is both an electrolyte and it is corrosive. I used to use vinegar to kill mold spores on timber, but no longer. The acetate salts it produces suck up water and then dissolve in that water and soak into the timbers. I do use vinegar sparingly on table-tops and shelving but only where I can be certain to wipe it all off afterwards using a sponge with a little baking soda solution.. The good thing about vinegar is it costs very little.
