CE FACE ARCADIA YACHTS UNIC?

I'm one of those people always interested in the range of a yacht. However, I'm also a person who has always been responsible for projects or a fleet of lorries and other vehicles, so I might give a small insight on the fuel question. Basically, you are correct. When any vehicle is used professionally, we always try to make sure that the fuel stores are as full as is reasonable. The thinking behind this is that you can not be sure to have access to new fuel the "next day" AND, more importantly, you want to be sure to have the maximum usability for your assets.
I guess that the captains and engineers use the same parameters and rules for their planning: "Fill up as soon as it makes sense, is cost-effective etc. Do not risk needing fuel you don't have."
The conundrum of the range of a vessel makes sense. Some people want to know "how far can I go?" if traveling from A to B, without realizing that in reality the use of the yacht you'll be going from A to C to D to E to F and then to B. If I recall correctly, for US automobiles, the "miles per gallon" measurement is taken in a lab with the vehicle going 40 mph over essentially a flat surface. Some people will make their purchases, or at least narrow their choices, based on the miles per gallon reading. The actual usage of the vehicle is usually 10 miles per gallon less for various reasons. (You go 75mph on highways, your 40 mph road has multiple traffic lights, et cetera. )
Very informative as always… Luv the new intro and ending format.. especially the end part, it's kinda like your live out takes…hahaha.. hmmm I'm guessing you will do a review on the Benetti B.Yond 38 m NSN … yes?…
Hi David, great video again! You did a correct observation but, in my opinion, the range of a yacht is not only a matter of fuel. Range is also a question of food storage, garbage management and a lot of other tech issues. So, I think a captain thinks about autonomy differently from us (Industry's fans)…
VIDEO SUGGESTION: Hi David, love your content! This is a video suggestion from Chris in Los Angeles. I really enjoyed your video titled “Which yacht should you buy?” I would love to see a video titled “Which SIZE yacht should you buy?” The premise would be a buyer who could afford any size yacht, but has certain use cases in mind. Different size yachts are good for different things. Smaller yachts can fit in places where big yachts can’t like the intercoastal waterway in Fort Lauderdale. I think the Great Loop in the United States, which attracts many yachters, has a size limit of 60 feet due to narrow locks. Giga yachts are great for entertaining clients and landing helicopters. Catamarans have a shallow draft and would be ideal for cruising the Bahamas. A certain minimum size yacht would be best to cross oceans. Some yachts have to get under bridges or travel up rivers. During the summer season, many busy Mediterranean ports often cannot accommodate gigayachts. I would love to see a vlog examining the typical use cases of yachts of 40 feet, 60 ft, 85ft, 110ft, 130, etc. all the way up to gigayachts. Because price, and how much yacht an owner can afford are certainly not the only criteria used in selecting which size of yacht is best for that particular owner, Just a suggestion. The kicker at the end of the video would be a line like, “Of course if you can afford to buy a gigayacht, then just buy a whole range of yachts – one in every size.” You have the best yacht content on the Internet!
I find it fairly easy to guess the range of a displacement hulled yacht. the length is the first factor followed by tankage and 1 or 2 engines . speed usually 6 to 12 knots up to 100 ft for best range. Captain Robert Beebe's voyaging under power details this for the layman.
Anyone looking to buy one of these, I will give ya my skills for the low low price of a room on the yacht 😁👍. You get the skills of a firefighter and my girlfriend used to work in hotels. If you ask me a person could save on the cost of hiring a crew. Instead of paying the person, find someone with a little bit of skills and just offer them a spot on the yacht. Give them lite duties being you are not paying them and you could have a whole crew without needing to pay out so much.
With the refit at Oceanco, this highlights the question of when a generator or engine should be overhauled back to zero hours. On broker yachts the hours are often hidden till the last minute. While you don’t ask a lady her age, you are foolish not to know how hard a yacht has been run.
Hmm… the only American shipyard I can think of that seems worthy of this channel is perhaps Westport…?
They should have a table on a spreadsheet with a handy printout on the bridge – simple professionalism.
Perhaps able to go to Lazzara? Would love to see them building their 85 cat. Great vid again!!
👍👍👍👍👍👍🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Are you visiting the LAZZARA shipyard?
The Pacific Ocean is not a Toddler Pool like the Med or Atlantic; One needs long legs to circumnavigate the Pacific.
I love brass and wood. Not chrome and glass. Possibly the most beautiful yacht I have ever seen, check out the 297 ft. Superyacht Nero. I must say these Arcadia ones look nice as explorers. Although IMO, the interiors need more wood and classical elegance.
I would look at a Lynx Crossover 27?…similar concept…dutch build…
David, as an avid watcher of your channel, please make a note in your phone to self, self do a walk-through of the Arcadia A96 in September at the Cannes boat show. I will be looking forward to the walkthrough.
Never tired of spending my time watching this channel. If there is one professional who takes his job to the highest level, this guy is David. Thanks for your work! Cheers from Rio de Janeiro!
Looks like a Lego
Please do the Acadia tour, also..could the 105 or the 85, etc..carry a Nemo submarine?
I hope the American shipyard is Metal Shark!
Do you have any information on Jeff Bezos Y271 yacht?
I'd be very interested in a video discussing the differences in the build requirements between a yacht of 499 gross tons displacement and one that exceeds that. How much more expensive would a similar yacht be at 501 gross tons?
My dream is to sail around the world, to visit every port a world traveler should see. To that end, the range of the yacht is important. Being able to cross the Atlantic is important. However can it cross the Pacific? Can it tour Antarctica?
Hi David, I get that Captains will often not know the range of the yacht they serve on. However I find it hard to understand the reason a Captain would not know this information. After all every yacht has a log book. Every engineer keeps an in depth log of the engine's time of use and the revolutions and how much fuel was used. As a long distance trucker I make it my business to understand the capability's of my truck, that includes how far a tank of fuel at a set speed will take me. What are you going to say to the boss if he suddenly says lets go to X that is 3000 nm away and you cant say yep we can do that, but rather splutter and say well let me get a calculator and speak to the engineer cos I don't know what the range of this yacht is. As an owner I would be shocked if my captain could not say off the top of his head if it was possible. After all isn't the captain supposed to know everything about his command, that includes the limits of his yacht. I gotta say I am shocked at this revelation.
I was on another yachting channel and someone was commenting about how they calculated the range for a yacht based on the burn rate of liters per hour and I had to correct her that the diesel also fueled the generators and sometimes the tender. So if you don't have solar and use the generators on board because of heavy cooking needs, HVAC, washer/dryer, etc. Plus you always wwnt a 10-20% reserve on fuel for unexpected things. So you can't really calculate the range based on burn rates usually
Just saw the new trawler from Magnolia on Northrop and Johnson. Would love to see a video of that 😃
Shipyard in the USA…Delta Marine, Westport, Christensen, Viking, or Hargrave…or Broward Marine…are they still in business? I think since you mentioned you wanted to get more into sportfishing yachts, it's Viking. Delta Marine though would be my choice. If I had the money they would be it. Relations with Turkey are dicey for the US. So Bering, Numarine and Mengi Ya are all out.
Their prices ?
