Hey guys thanks so much for watching the video. A video with a topic as difficult to explain as this we probably wouldn’t have attempted 2 years ago as it is difficult to strike the right tone. Maybe we missed the mark here but there is also the chance that people either skipped parts or didn’t listen the the words that were actually spoken in the video.
First off. We know the moon can be seen at various points of the day, the point was in the early early morn it’s easier than at mid morning. lol
A crucial point for a lot of people seems to be the fact we didn’t have lunch with the guys at their home. This was far from awkward or rude we simply went home and they went about their day
Some people are saying catching small fish is best for the environment. This isn’t my understanding and not the way fisheries are operated in Australia or the US in places I’ve fished however that isn’t to say that the regulations are behind the science so if there are any Marine Biologists out there reading this with definitive information I would love to see that. My suspicion then as it is now is that the big fish have been taken and now we’re taking the smaller ones so that soon there’s nothing.
It is important to note that it is precisely why this is such an interesting and worthwhile topic is because it is multifaceted and complex. One fisherman or one family isn’t going to make a difference and we said as much. I also said something along the lines of – I hope it goes without say but these guys aren’t the problem and are simply fishing for food for their families. This seems to have been missed by a few people. We got along well with the guys, understand their situation and would love to go fishing again for pelagic fish in the area.
To the very few people writing “virtue signalling” as part of their comments… 2015 called and wants its hot dis back.

I think the biggest aspect of this is simply your profiting off this video. Your profiting off their poverty. Then bashing it. The ad revenue alone for this video is most likely a years wages for them.
If you didn’t agree with the fishing practices then surely you would simply not publish this video. But instead you want to criticise their way of life passed down from generations whilst you make income from the content and the sponsor. Usually love your videos, but you got this wrong and rather than fighting this overwhelming negative response you have received, you should simply issue an apology and take the video down.

I totally understand. I spent my childhood sailing and fishing . catching one Fish After the other. 40 years later, takes forever to catch one. We all have to say No thank you. It is fatal to wait for somebody else to start. This planet is almost dead. To much exploitation. Time to Switch to a plant based diet and let nature recover
Why dig so badly at the little little guys. You should know how fishing works, some days good some days bad.
If you wanted a garanteed commercialised sbs cooking session filmed, one go pay for it & two go use a commercialised charter that catches big amounts of fish.
From a vegan 🌱 I think it’s really cool that this inspired Riley to go veggie for a month (: I would really recommend watching the documentary Seaspiracy on Netflix, maybe even give it a second watch if you’ve seen it! It’s just so insightful into the complex epidemic of overfishing.

Ya not in OZ now Toto 🤣 You need to Tackle China they rake more small fish than anyone..These guys are just getting dinner ,to implement a size limit could mean they would not have food…They need like Zones closed for a year or two where they cant take under size ect so they can still take small fish for now but cant take them from the zones for a few years and of course some fish grow quicker than others so that needs to be considered to..

Did you just wake up to the fact that mass tourism has brought the average Man to places he could never have dreamed of going? While the SLV crew is far from average, they remain humans, with all their beautiful imperfections for the world to see.
Mass tourism, it's the "loud, fat, white socks wearing, American" traveling with a feeling of superiority across the world. The "loud, condescending, arrogant, Frenchman criticizing every country he sets foot in", the "unruly, red-faced drunks from England" vomiting and passing out on a Greek or Spanish coastal town!
Cheap travels has brought out all the ugliness of people with traits such : racism, xenophobia, prejudice and, to a much lesser degree, simple ignorance.
We can all agree that the SLV crew has none of the above but are simply, perhaps, out of juice, and human, and at a crossroad of their YouTube journey and respective lives – let's be a little more patient with them, right?
Life is a journey and experience takes time. Experience usually comes from hardship. So far, the SLV crew has had a honeymoon of a ride for close to 10 years. Let's not forget all the work, consistency and risks that has been put into this, a true investment that paid off as they fed us "their world" and while we traveled "with them", for free, and from the comfort of our chairs while sipping on a cold beer and scratching our collective asses.
I suggest we all relax and refrain from rushing to judge on the imperfections these humans have, before we scrutinize our own.

Hey guys, thanks for the amazing videos, it’s about the only thing I watch. Ocean conservation and conservation in general seems like like an ever losing battle. Riley, I have been in your shoes; when your greatest values are eroded and you feel you should speak up about something, but the timing is wrong. Perhaps you should direct your emotion towards social entrepreneurship. If seaweed farming can change a fishing village, why can’t fish farming? I’d give my 2 cents worth, but you probably have better resources than what I could offer. 😊
