A really informative video Nick – the increase in industry, tourism coupled with a lack of infrastructure development is in issue in many developing countries & Vietnam is sadly no exception. Many roads throughout SE Asia are simply not designed for the volume of heavy vehicle traffic & tbh nor are the skills of many. So good of you to stop & render what assistance you could. The countryside however is stunning & we're so humbled by your videography – thank you 🙏👏✌️👍

I have been following your channel for about a year now, and I am impressed to see the boat being built, but also the quality of your commentary has progressed equally. I have been to Vietnam several times, and it really isn't until you get out of the big cities that you can see the real life of her people. Please do go North, if not by bike, by Ruby Rose II. Thank you for sharing your road trip, it brought back for me many great experiences that I have had during my stays.
I'm sure the people on the bus could use more medical help, but dental work is probably not the kind of medical help they're looking for.

Those bus and truck drivers are loaded with amphetamines to cope with the long driving hours; that's partly why they drive like such nutjobs.
I travelled that road from Dalat to Nha Trang last Thursday. The road was amazing crossing a high pass in the clouds with waterfalls on the mountain sides. Steep steep sides and if you go off the road you won't come back…
Growing up in Vietnam and living abroad right now, what I learned is due to the superstitious culture & the history constantly being in wars, the people believe that life & death is pretty much fated, and they are all the time in survival mode. That leads to incredible bravery, recklessness and disregard to laws and such. Bad things happen like this they just deal with it straightaway, "cest la vie", then move on.
I rode my push bike down from Dalat to the coast in 1994. You jogged my memory about how tacky Dalat is, and how much I enjoyed rural Vietnam.
I bet you miss the other half on that lovely trip Nick, hope you had a nice rest from the build.
Your riding excursions are fun, Nick, but we are on our tip toes waiting to admire the sleek haul #1 in the water.

Nick – these bike videos have an Anthony Bourdain quality about them. You're not as dark as he could be, but the earnestness, how you observe and comment, and the spirit of wanting to see and experience different places – it was all part of his magic. Maybe you should be doing travelogues!

Re bike riding- I did a population health study for the development of a hospital in north Vietnam. The highest cause of death and injury is road accidents and of course motor bikes at the top of the list. But this is also common for Thailand and Laos.
20 years ago I spent a week looking after a friend with a spinal injury in a hospital in Nah Trang – the conditions were pretty terrible, staff very poorly paid and no nursing care (relatives fed and nursed patients). The hospital was full of motorbike casualties. And rats. I am sure it is better now – but despite the incredible generosity and kindness of the vietnamese I met at the hospital I was sure grateful to be air-lifted to honk kong – after a few days stopover in a French hospital in Ho chi minh. Wonderful country – such a relief to see how far they have come since I was there.
