  1. I saw the small thumbnail photo and title and thought that looks like Knysna. Mind you I've only been there once when visiting South Africa for my daughter's wedding but I recognized the big cliff. When I was there I remember thinking, "Man I wouldn't want to bring a boat through that opening." I guess I was right.

  2. Wow, yes, that does look dangerous. Almost as dangerous as my home port, Humboldt Bay, far northern California. I've been out in it as a news photographer (even though I'm an engineer, they couldn't find anyone who would go out and video the oil tankers ect caught on shoals because they had gone too far south in the harbor. I have even been out on a little crab boat. Our harbor is about the same waves but much narrower. You have to do it when the tides are favorable ! If they are not favorable I've seen huge waves at the entrance. There are two very narrow long jetties to supposedly make entering it a little safer but folks either get on the wrong side of the jetty or crash into the jetty on the way in. Yes, I remember East London mentioned when Delos was there, but they didn't even mention the dangerous harbor or video it that I can remember anyway. When you get your forecasts you must look at both models ? So yes, I have seen the scary situation where you can't get the spinnaker down because you waited too long. What is the best cruisers guide for the run down the coast ?

  3. If you rig a snatch block on the snuffer line, you can pull up while hauling it down……much safer than having the spinnaker lifting you off the deck (that was always fun…)

  4. Awesome video guys. Wear gloves to give you much more grip strength when bringing in spinnaker etc. All so wont burn skin. Of course you know this but safety reminder😊

  5. o wow you guys are next door to us… We live in George. 40 min drive from Knysna… We have been watching you guys since about 2016/7.. Maybe will try and come visit you guys 😉

  6. Well done for going through the heads . Hope you Addo elephant park . And go kite in the best kite spot inSA cannon rocks 👍

  7. Radio rebooting right when you're starting a transmission sounds like a power issue. Stability of the supply power, or maybe a little too much interference into it from the output power to the antenna.

  8. I am loving your sail around our beautiful country. 🇿🇦 I am not surprised that they know who you are. Some of the best and wholesome family sailing content available on YouTube.

  9. Wellcome to South Africa. That is our weather. Very unpredictable. I use to do commercial fishing for 4 years from Mosselbay. I listened to four weather station's predictions every morning and they were never correct.

  10. Even experienced skippers have been caught out on flat days in the Knysna Heads. It’s the unexpected freak wave that can wipe a boat out.

I’ve sailed my 21’ in and out a few times. It’s never ‘easy.’ Uneventful perhaps, but not easy ….

  11. I am from the time when spinnaker socks did not exist and taking a spinnaker down was a 3 or 4 man fight to keep it from going under the boat and taking the mast with it.
Funny how something that simple and obvious changed the life of of cruisers so much.
    Great video again,thank you
PS:I want to reincarnate as a dolphin, way to much fun!

  12. I watched the Pardeys sail through the Knysna Heads. I’ve always gone through with furled sails under engine. It can get very interesting when the weather starts pumping – usually resulting in the Heads being closed. We actually surfed through on one occasion at over 20 knots – heart in mouth stuff.

  13. 4 am! Ugh. I'm going to hazard a guess there's not many out there who feel differently. 😉
    All the dolphins! So cool.
Great lead up, anticipation high….well done.
