Acest episod începe cu Bill lucrând la traversarea capului pentru chiuvetă. Se luptă să-l scoată pentru service, ceea ce este o surpriză, având în vedere că le-am exercitat înainte de a pleca într-o pauză de 3 săptămâni în SUA. În cele din urmă, după zile de luptă cu el, este extras și gata pentru service împreună cu alți șase cocoși de mare ai lui Calico Skies. Înainte de întreținerea cocoșilor de mare, există încă o rundă de șlefuire și carenare pe numeroasele blistere ale ambarcațiunii. De adâncime variabilă, cele 71 de blistere au fost sticlate, dar acum trebuie șlefuite și carnate de mai multe ori până când sunt netede. Astăzi avem o echipă care include Big D, Jared și Marybell pentru a ne ajuta cu această sarcină murdară și, ca echipă, lucrăm toată ziua. A doua zi, Bill evită șlefuirea chilei, deoarece a făcut deja un miliard de ore pe carenă și are nevoie de o „pauză”. Lucrează la instalarea releului de temperatură pentru suflante care menține bateriile noastre cu litiu reci atunci când navighează în locuri fierbinți. În continuare Bill atacă thru-hulls începând cu mânerele; folosește o perie de sârmă pentru a îndepărta coroziunea. Apoi curăță corpurile cocoșilor de mare și aplică compus de lepătură și rotește conul conic în corpul supapei fiecărei carene. Odată ce este finalizat, le curăță din nou, le unge și începe provocarea sarcinii de a le reinstala din nou. După mai multe șlefuire și cărenare de către echipă, acest episod se termină cu un colaj al vieții noastre din Cabrales Boat Yard. In the middle of a major refit on my Glenayr right now. All new through hulls, new water maker, new webasto diesel heater, new batteries, installing a wind generator and a set of davits (its taken me 14 years but I've finaly got tired of towing the damn dinghy) as well as all new running rigging.
Things I've learned.
1. I've gotten bigger and less bendy than I was when I bought the boat.
2. Prolonged sanding makes your hands feel funny
3. If its a simple job some part of it will be in a stupid inaccessible place.
4. It can't be ceased if its liquid.
5. Nothing corosion welds like aluminum.
6. If it needs to be heated to unstick its surounded by either the very flamible or the mildy explosive.
7. The last guy to work on her was a shit electrician.
8. If you are working under the boat, you left the tool you need in a bilge.
9. If you are working in a bilge, the tool you need is in truck.
10. Anything dropped from mast head hight will bounce mightily when it hits the coach top.
11. Alcohol gives you the confidence to try intimidating jobs.
12. It does nothing for your ability to do said jobs.
13. Just read the instructions, only applies if the instructions are in an intelligible language.
14. Some times, you just need to step back and stare at a problem until it makes sense.
15. The guy, who did her last refit qas an idiot.
16. Maybe I should stop doing all my own work.
17. Hiring out is…. expensive…. prohibitively expensive….
18. Work boat gear, isn't as pretty but its near enough to bullet proof.
19. Just get the engine parts from the tractor company. Its much cheaper.
Oh that familiar feeling working with boats. Everything is stucked, and always in a inaccessible place. I don't miss that part when I owned a boat.

Dont know why but I adore how much Nuggs loves Grace. I can think back when I was young and the love I had for my much older sisters and a favorite aunt that makes me know how this warms and nurtures Sierras heart and life. If she had her Mor Mor and Grace together she would be in heaven!

How do you eat an elephant? A chop at a time. Small steps to get to the finish line although it may seem like that line is moving away all the time. If nothing breaks we wont learn anything new. Bill why don’t you wire the blower to run when engine running?That way your batteries never warm up to start with.

Thru hulls IMHO….can be reused, but save yourself the grief and replace the seacocks.

If you take out the 1/8" pipe plug used for draining the thru-hull and install a grease fitting. You can give the valves a few shots of grease a couple time a year and no more stuck valves. If you can find SS grease or bronze fittings, you can leave them in place. If you use a steel fitting, replace the pipe plug after greasing. Use a good quality grease gun and exercise the valve while greasing.
What do you do about all the penetrating oil that dripped out of the thru hulls on to the hull? Just wondering about when the hull is painted.
