3. I think you are being a little unrealistic with the marina price. Their English isn’t very good. They would not charge $160 / day but only $800 per month. Obv $800 was per week (even though they incorrectly wrote “month”. They should def honour their mistake though!

4. Yeah, I’m with you with that marina. Mistakes happen. But when a customer has to travel and make decisions on a written quote, then mistake or not, they should own it. Otherwise they could be ac used of taking advantage of their customers, quoting one price and deliberately putting the price up when customers arrive. Bad for business.

5. It might be the low end of tourist season but Cyprus is a tax haven full of millionaires these days. They screw them every chance they can.

7. Hi Keith, great job securing the sail and finding the problem with the furling gears, In my opinion when you call customs/coast gaurd or marina I would not tell them where i am from unless they ask , as soon as you said USA the price went up, just let them assume you are local 😆😂

12. Unfortunately, the customer is not always right in the EU, it’s just a different culture- American culture is very service oriented, European culture can be quite different. It’s not wrong, just different.

14. Real sorry to hear your Cyprus issues. If I’d known I’d have said to you to go 5 miles east to another marina where you never get this issue (they have port police there too). Limassol is renowned in the yachting community for being a little difficult.

17. Just a thought. In industry these days we would scan the broken part and digitally repair the gear then have a machine shop make the gear that was stripped out on a CNC out of a more durable metal. Surely a shop close by to the port in Turkey can do the same. Of course if a part is available no problem.

18. Cypriats are good people but they tend to be a bit lazy and often will try to scam tourists. Unfortunately thats the mediterranean way, poor economy = poor business

23. $800 dock fee for a month in the Med? Surely you must realized it was a mistake!!! The Med is the most expensive and crowded cruising ground, starting now. $8000a month is more the norm, and just anchoring near resort towns will cost you a couple 100 a night. Go to Corsica, Sardinia, north Africa. Gorgeous diving and near free anchoring. This is EUROPE, baby, where gas is $2 a liter, which, for the ignorami, amounts to $8 a gallon. You wanted Europe? Get the wallet out. And good luck with your American flag. Imperialist USA is not well received in Europe.

28. Right sir with the candid "review" of the marina folks! Hopefully they will lose some business from the statements of fact mentioned.

29. That is the Tourist trap snapping at your heels! That kind of bullshit is very common in all places down there that deal with tourists. It brings out the worse creeps among the land pirates and they will stop at nothing to fleece some money from any stranger that comes by. Better to be forewarned and avoid going there at all. It is a shitty place with shitty operators, so I will never recommend any of my friends to go there. Same in some tourist resort in China. When they did'nt see I was white the prices was low and friendly, but as soon as my white face show the price increased tenfold.

30. The marina does have published rates online. For a 17-18 m extra-wide vessel such as Zatara, the online published WEEKLY rate of 530 x 1.5 = 799.50. So, it appears that the one-time emailed response stated as MONTHLY was a mistake in relation to the marina's clearly stated online rates. The online MONTHLY rate should have been quoted at 1600 x 1.5 = 2400, which would have been less than 100/day and probably still less than 50% of marinas in Italy and France that are more in the 200/day range. Expecting to put a vessel the size of Zatara in a modern marina such as the Limassol Marina for 26-27 euros a day is wishful thinking at best. On another note, regarding anchoring offshore or near the marina for free and using the dinghy for back-n-forth transport, a look at historical satellite images of the area never shows any regular anchoring near the marina.

31. If it sounds too good to be true (200/night vs 950/month), then it probably is a mistake. I can appreciate a small business not being able to afford what would would be essentially a 75% discount due to an employee's mistake. I can also appreciate your frustration. A shame that some sort of compromise was not possible. That said, it NEVER feels right to me when an influencer strikes out at an individual or small business regardless of who is right or wrong.

    2- since you went to the Mediterranean and sorry for the bad experience in Cyprus , why Lebanon was not on your list? Am Lebanese and am sure you would have had a better experience
