1. The nicest holes that I have drilled in gelcoat use a Step Bit which has a low angle of cut and is fully supported by the edge of the hole. It increases in steps of 1/16" and makes a very smooth cut.

2. Why are you measuring for the vinyl using inches and not doing it in metric ?

3. An example of excellent British engineering from Derek Daniels. I met him by chance when I went to Kirkby-in-Ashfield to collect my own Hydrovane.

6. Other option if can make it all fit, move attachment point for mizzen boom sheet further forward on boom so doesn’t interfere when tacking.

   Actually cut top of stainless tube to drop top mechanism enough to fit under boom in low position then move sheet forward and jobs a goodun.

8. I would look into the orca issues you mentioned, apparently it’s not as prolific as it seems, most of the reports are drug smugglers falsely reporting to elude authorities

Just watching the latest episode and I will say that you need to bear in mind that if you do get attacked by orcas down to the Med then it might be best not to have the wind vane in the water until you are out of the 'danger' zone otherwise you will lose two rudders, both will be taken out. All the best.

20. Just another thing whilst watching Melissa doing the vinyl, I have to say that the font chosen won't really suit the graceful lady Ocean Melody is, it's too harsh. She deserves an easy cursive font with upper and lower case… elegant.

    O well I’m so sorry because I had to say captain Jack of course. It was a nice day to work on Ocean Melody and the Hydro Vane Rudder is a huge improvement in particular for long distance sailing. The font you’ve used for the name stickers look really awesome. A great pity that your new GoPro was trying to swim what wouldn’t have been a topic when she was in an underwater proof cover because these also have kind of a floating buoy so the camera always will appear at the surface. No need to recommend you such an accessory. Willeke and I hope all is going fine with Melissa’s pregnancy and she will extend the count down to launch the baby till the baby is fully viable, and preferably without an incubator. Also on behalf of WIlleke I send you love from the Netherlands

27. Impressive job with the lettering. So much better than using stick-on letters from the stationery or hardware store and then having them not the correct size or going on straight.

31. Another great job. Well two to be fair. Hydrovane fitted and boat name designed, printed, cut and installed on the bow. The frustration of getting the jobs both right and the Go-Pro incident was palpable. However, you are steadily getting closer and closer to the grand departure. The small issues along the way are minor compared to the overall goal. Glad to see you, Melissa, looking so well. Well done to you all. Another great installment to this amazing adventure.

34. I'd want a bunch of gussets/fillets/bulkheads around the transom. Extra weight and forces from following seas may be too much for it. Swimming platform and/or dingy davits also in the picture. Too many adverts!

39. Nice episode Andy. I would've thought it would be easier to mount the two bottom brackets and then measure the length of the tubes required. It appeared Hydrovane made the brackets very adjustable. Trying to determine length and position simultaneously I would think is very difficult!

45. The drill should have a negative rake for fiberglss and soft materials like brass ect to stop dig in bite as the sharp edge will want to bite.

49. In the USA we call the “set screws” button head screws. Set screws do not have a “head” and are typically used to tighten a pulley on a shaft or similar application. Sometimes also called a “grub screw”. I’ve seen others, when running a bolt through foam core, drill oversize then fill the hole with thickened epoxy. When hard they drill the final hole. The thickened epoxy will also prevent water from getting into the foam core. Thanks for the videos, love your channel.
