  1. Loved seeing the cruise ship next to the snow/ice covered rock, especially after that rough bit of weather. Here's to smooth sailing. A phantom shipmate in Texas.

  2. I really enjoyed this video and love your boat. It's a blow when they suffer damage but most yachts have some sort of signs of usage. Hopefully a quick paint touch up will make it perfect again. Looking forward to hearing about your decision to change boats when you make the video.

  3. Here I was thinking you were at the top of our marble-sized planet, far from everything and from everybody. That you would not be able to find more than brave fishermen, flounder, and cod and then you enter a well-stocked wine shop, better stocked than most here in Canada 100 kilometers north of Toronto or Montreal !!! "Marinheiros" in the 21 century could care less for spyce routes or the Eldorado!
Well, it seems Mr. Patrick is sailing the waters of the world looking for Chateau du Pape. Priorities, we all have them. Merci, amigo navegador.

  4. Ahoy! That's my home country! If you can, stop by Hornafjörður, Akranes or Reykjavík, I'll have one of my cousins meet you for coffee and a chat and dinner! Góða ferð.

  5. At 2:00, again, like Gustavo said in your earlier video, you need to keep a little tension on the furling lines, both "incoming" and "outgoing" while furling both ways (your "furling halyard line" should be tight at this point as discussed as well). Makes it a bit trickier, but prevents this little mishap from happening. Practice furling and unfurling in very light air conditions first.

  6. Thank you, Patrick!
Always a joy, when a new video from you pops up!
Looking forward for the next one!

  7. Oh lol, you with your Chateau de Shanti … some of the backdrops in your sailing footage is spectacular! Maine lobster boats also have those small steadying sails.

  8. Hello Patrick, again a great video, thank you so much for taking us on this journey and for sharing your insights and life at sea. I think you would be a great entrant to the GGR 2026. The ultimate trip. Is that something you would ever consider?

  9. Hey, Patrick!
Yes! Those big, dirty tires are nightmares!
But don´t you think you could bring an anchor at the side to hold the boat away from that?
Good winds and calm seas! 😉👍

  10. Great episode Patrick. You manage to bring together stunning scenery and images with nautical 'tips' from docking, gybing, tacking and navigation all in one video.

  11. When I brought back my brand new bicycle from the bike shop, I lost control and slammed it to the driveway ground, causing a nasty scratch on the handlebar, and heartache. As I was about to touch up the black handlebar with a black marker to disguise the scratch, my 10 year-old nephew interjected, "no, no, a beat up bike is a respectable bike", showing wisdom beyond his tender years. Indeed I have since accumulated so many more scratches that I couldn't care less. Jenna has now acquired signs of a respectable boat! Congratulations!

  12. I enjoy every video of your immensely Patrick! I wonder if you ever miss the comforts of your Bavaria, or do you prefer the simplicity of smaller boats?

  13. Another great video Patrick, always such a pleasure to watch. I'm curious as to whether your boat has twin keels & a single rudder or vice versa, can you let us know?

  14. Great to see new videos again.
I am absolutely no expert sailor but is there a reason you don't use "springs" when you tie up alongside harbour walls? They are lines (as I'm sure you know) that go from the stern forward and from the bow aft and they keep the boat near the wall and they cope very well with tide variables

  15. Another enjoyable video. It amazes me the detail on these wind maps. They will only get better with the development of AI.

  16. You were wise to apologize for your Islandic language. Islanders are well known for their unpredictable, picky, feisty, foul, hot-tempered nature!

  17. I have to be careful not to binge watch all yr videos (I discovered this channel a week ago). While watching I noticed there is something special about you wich I recognized because I met a few people like that years ago, mainly during my navy days. And then you mentioned you were a fighter pilot! So the penny dropped 😊 : pragmatic, doesn't let emotions get in the way of things that need to be done, safety first, no drama, following procedures, aware of one's own limitations, continuesly eager to learn without being submissive, calm, good sense of humour, friendly and approachable, etc.
I am learning a lot here, thank you!

  18. Always good to see you again Sir Patrick. I will leave you with this :“I really don't know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, except I think it's because in addition to the fact that the sea changes, and the light changes, and ships change, it's because we all came from the sea. And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea – whether it is to sail or to watch it – we are going back from whence we came." JFK That little vessel's performance is quite admirable Patrick. Running solo is just so much difference than having a mate. The Western fjords of Iceland are beyond any words I know.

  19. Chateau Neuf du-cod made me laugh. You have a subtle sense of humour. I assume it goes well with fish; The wine, not your humour. 😆

  20. The weather according to Ventusky looks pretty horrendous at the moment so take care, it will calm down in a few days. How about trying one of those rotten fish delicacies we have heard about? Test your 😊strong stomach

  21. I was going to order a case of Chateuneuf du Cod but suspect it’s a bit fishy 😂 We loved Iceland and had an amazing boat trip on the fjords with the puffins taking flight around us. Some serious tidal streams 😳

  22. Thank you for posting. Enjoyed the video as always. Two epic moments – the battle scars on the hull and the wine shop at the end 🙂 Fair winds!

  23. I need to watch again, because I probably missed it but:
1.) No “Hello phantom sailors!” Edit: I take that back, I watched it again sorry
2.) No classic rock lyric reference 👎
    3.)There WAS a Châteauneuf-du-Pape request at the end👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
(Sold a lot of bottles of that as a 20s year old waiter in the late 1990s-early 2000s.)❤️❤️
Sorry for all the emojis. Thank you so much for posting, your camera work and editing is exquisite. Never been on a sailboat or on the ocean, but the sights (and sounds!!) warm my heart, thank you thank you thank you.

  24. Great views from my homegrounds Patrick. the westfjords are truly majestic with wintercoat on 🙂 Brrrr. Fair winds! (BTW; I found my new boat at last – in Finland..)

  25. At https://youtu.be/vabsrPkrUCY?t=879 regarding the sail on the fishing boat.
These are called "mesan" in Norway (mizzen in English) and have historically been found on all smaller fishing boats around here.

Their intended use is to keep the boat stable into the wind, when working with nets and lines.
These days with thrusters, and better autopilots I guess they are slowly getting retired.

Here's an old picture from Lofoten showing them used on every boat:

    And a newer:

  26. Both of my children were born early in the morning and it was quite an adventure! Prepared me to be a sailor I guess😄

  27. Always good to see you out there sailing Patrick! I like the commentary on the tacking and jibing. Hope the gelcoat repairs are successful. Mixing for that shade of blue should be interesting.

  28. Not strapping in, as you rightly did, in these conditions, is akin to driving without a seat belt these days. It’s just sheer pointless illogical obstinance, for the sake of being obstinate. There is no reason not to strap in when solo in blue/coldwater in 20+ knots.

  29. I was very interested to see how you would adapt to the new boat , I hope it is a positive experience. Thanks Patrick for bringing us with you it is great for us armchair sailors .
