  1. You'll have to invest in a barbeque for the back of the boat and a couple of fishing rods so you can catch something for it.

  2. 81% is a false reading..highly unlikely your genny was outputting 1500kva ! more like 600w after the power factor correction, when you shut off the genny you then got a propper reading because the genny was supplying the charger with the nominal 230vac simple ….all the best.

  3. Great video and wonderful audio too which makes it a pleasure to watch:-) Inspirational for us new day skippers yet to buy the boat and venture out on our own, so many thanks and looking forward to seeing more – hope Jess enjoys it too!

  4. I have fond memories of a week sailing round Anglesey some years ago on a Westerly Fulmar from Plas Menai, on an RYA course. Force 8 all week. It was interesting sailing to say the least. Like the video.

  5. Your generator model is the EU3.2i the EU just means it meets EU regs. The 3.2 is the max power (3.2 kW) or 3200 watts the k denotes thousands. So for example, 10 kW would be 10,000 watts. The i denotes your generator has an inverter. The max continuous power of your generator is 2,6 kW (2600 watts). The 2.6kW to 3.2kW is to allow a peak when things with a motor in them fire up like a fridge or deep freeze. Think of it like when you set off on a bicycle you have to press hard on the pedals to get going but once you are off it's not so hard.

Your battery when fully charged should read 12.6 volts DC or more if you've just charged it which is why after charging you should leave the battery for at least 12hrs to rest with no load before testing and also why you shouldn't rely on the 100% reading just after charging. The 81% jump to 100% could be that your gauge was picking up the charging voltage in float mode from the charger which on some older chargers can be relatively low voltage.

Personally, I would get a qualified marine electrician to look over your system if you are paying him/her by the hour do some brain-picking. Electrickery can be confusing and let us not beat about the bush lethal 😈

  6. I have the same BM-1 voltmeter albeit in my campervan and it's not the easiest instrument to fully understand what is a reliable indication and what's an error caused by the 'physics' of how your batteries and the volt meter work. For example, it seems unless there is a load on the batteries eg working fridge etc you won't get a true reading. This link is for the manual and it explains all of the errors / problems you may experience https://www.nasamarine.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Clipper-BM1BM2.pdf. Hope it helps! Another great video thanks.

  7. Hi David. Really great that you’ve made your first overnighter and an anchorage as well. My wife and I are looking into learning to sail and getting a boat. It would be great to hear your story of how you got into the hobby, what was the experience of doing the RYA courses, and at some point, your boat buying journey. Many thanks, new subscriber, Richard, down here in Cornwall.

  8. Anchoring offshore overnight. No noise from traffic or people. Just the gentle rocking of the boat and the sound of the water lapping against the hull, lulling you to sleep. Oh Bliss David.

  9. Hi David. Am really enjoying your journey so far , id love to hear about the whole process , buying, survey, cost etc. most sailing channels are American based so I like to hear how it all works from a UK POV. fair wind Sir
