1. If you're working with epoxy/fiber a lot, find an "Action" nearby, they carry various types of cheap disposable gloves, it protects and your fingers have 1000x the dexterity of a piece of wood. That filler needs to go IN!

  2. When applying glass, I find it a lot easier to wet the glass out first then apply it – especially with difficult to access areas. Also same for taping. When going round a radius such as the corner of the rudders, cut wedges/lines out/in to allow better adaption and finish. And when dispensing resin/catalyst by pump, keep the containers vertical!!
Looking good and taking shape nicely!

  3. Where you're picking bits out, I might have been tempted to use the neat epoxy to wet it out before applying the thickened … I'm sure it'll be fine though.

  4. Come launch time it will not be long before you are looking for shelter on the deck. Please don't add a shed .Think of a beautiful pod. There are some examples about.

  5. Way the best music on any of the sailing channels I watch, thank you! Perhaps your subtitle should be ‘Adventures of a Young Sea Dog’, as Barry’s is the only other channel whose music I like!

  6. So many comments…good to see…always wet out joint with neat epoxy first….also why didn't you glass the panel before fitting it into the case , then all you have to do is tag the joints???? cheers

  7. Dear Wilding Sailing.
👍👌👏 This episode reminded me of your last rudder fixing period. By the way: Absolutely anything is better than working on the ground in the dirt (Pakistani truck style for instance 😁). Bending over will wear you out, even if you will only realise it 25 years later (but then it's too late of course). Please kindly allow me to suggest to build yourself an inexpensive workbench or table in the shade. Respectively at least use your folding workbench. Put an inexpensive white tarp over the structure between the two hulls to create a dry and shady work space.
Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards, luck and health in particular.

  8. Digging out those cracks and soft spots is best done with a die grinder with a tungsten burr for aluminium which won’t clog easily great for getting depth in those hard to get into areas before re glassing

  9. Don’t do anything dodgy, do it right, this is your life you are playing with when you are in the middle of nowhere in the boat

  10. when mixing thickened epoxy, I have found that it is easier to do on a paper plate, with a bondo spreader, than in a cup. plus, it is spread out more, so it doesnt get hot so fast as it does in a cup. make sure the plates are not wax coated. mix epoxy in cheap disposable plastic cup, then pour onto plate and mix in with the spreader. I never use marked mixing cups with West System.

  11. so jobs are not so tiring have you thought of splitting your day in half or maybe thirds where each time allotment is dedicated to a different project ….. takes the drudgery out of a task ….. have your shirt off for half an hour a day, maybe less to start with to get the vit D …. not a fan of sunscreen, it just prolongs the time you can be in the sun, hence the suggestion of short periods ….. great video … as always Mark …. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ….

  12. For wood that has softened or deteriorated because of water ingress, may I suggest that a wet rot wood hardener be applied before the epoxy? It's an inexpensive liquid that is easily absorbed by the wood and hardens it enough to make it stronger and waterproof. It will increase the life of the wood which you opt not to change.

  13. I love your editing and approach to videos, esp the part where you give updates and show all the supporters. Most youtubers just throw them at the end and people tend to just click away. This format really gives more thanks to all the supporters. Keen to see how this build progresses. Cheers from Belgium.
