5. Honestly the first thought that comes to mind when I think Halifax is how many sailors that last set foot on land was Halifax . I mean just during wwii alone must of been massive . Ad almost 4 centuries of shipping and fishing

6. I enjoyed your Halifax tour. Interesting fact: the first Canadian to complete a single handed yacht race circumnavigation (the '86/'87 BOC), John Hughes, still lives there. His 40' yacht, Joseph Young, was named after our grandfather (he is my cousin!). That, and the fact that Joshua Slocum was originally a Nova Scotian, lends some significance to your port call there… Bon voyage!

    I'm glad that your boat weathered the storm. I'm meant to be in Canada right now, but things got in the way.

We were visiting Halifax, NS at the time of the Swiss Air disaster in ‘98 and were totally blown away by how the local community quickly pulled together to assist in the search and rescue as well as provide housing and support for the families of the victims. The kindness was truly heroic given the scale of the tragedy. ❤

    Happy Wave Rover made it relatively unscathed.

19. 3:40 That must have been a joyous return to the anchorage, finding her so serene after the storm. What a beautiful vessel you built Alan, (and in such pace.) 24. 30 yrs. in navy made 4 trips to Halifax for courses., winter, winter, winter and winter, it looks much nicer in summer. Ret'd now, will have to make at least one more trip to be there when the sun is shining. Enjoy your vids, thanks for posting.

    If you're ever in the UK, make sure that you visit the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth, Cornwall. It's the same sort of set up as the one that you've just visited in Halifax.

    If you get to the Shetland Islands, the is a tiny museum on Unst (the furthest North point of the UK) called the Boat Haven. I managed to keep myself occupied for about 4 hours and even my wife enjoyed it for nearly as long.

30. The Quartermaster*
    Allan, next time, you will be better served if you gather all your halyards, topping lift, flag, and radar reflector lines together using bungee cords then with a separate line, pull the whole bundle back and fasten it to the stern pulpit. This way, you keep all your halyards and other lines off the mast.
    This stops the paint on the mast from wearing off.

31. Halifax also has link to the Golden age of Canadian Piracy! I loved reading about the Privateer turned Pirates of those areas. The story of poor Edward Jordan was very thought provoking.

32. Fun fact…that tall mast at The Lower Deck was the old main mast out of Bluenose II. The Maritime Museum is my favourite spot in Halifax.

33. Whilst in Bermuda a few years ago, i met some shipmates from Nova Scotia, i thought they were from the West of Ireland such was their accents

34. Was the FFH HMCS Winnipeg a ship you served on Alan? I'm sure people would be interested in your past, civil and military.

35. My grand father was in an orphanage in Halifax when the explosion occurred. I believe it was in 1917 and not 1918. He was scarred in the face by flying glass and had that scar his whole life.

36. I know that guy! What a fitting meetup. It's probably been a long enough time since Kevin's engineless circumnavigation that the destinations along the way have changed somewhat but I'm sure you had a meaningful exchange nonetheless about your upcoming legs.

    Halifax looks like a very interesting place place. I grew up listening to my Grandfather's relation tell me stories about the place during the War, then heading back to Liverpool.
