Gaynor facial expression in thumbnail is classic
Resource Management is paramount when out of marina. We have our own mugs so when on passage we reuse mugs without washing just a quick swish.
Just as well holding is excellent 😂
So that’s what it was like! This was around 12 July? When did Hugh McCready’s boat become unstuck?
It’s a wonder you got any sleep with storm after storm
Loved Gaynor's "okay, okay", clearly but quietly disagreeing with Bev's assessment that the storm was there already. Next morning …..It must have been a truly disappointing summer adventure. I guess there is always next year. I am looking forward to next week's vlog.
Thanx for this video. Both of you are cool strong women.
Stay safe there.
Nice one.. Not the best weather today either… winter is coming.
This July throught the UK must have been the worst for many years, we were battered on the East coast, stuck unable to move for most of the month, but we were in a marina, so rescourse management wasnt an issue. Well done both of you.
We had a couple of storms like that, one in Port Ellen where the whole marina was bouncing up and down and the news had it as the strongest gusts recorded during the storm, Port Ellen as the epicentre with 50kts+ gusts, and then another in Lochranza with southerlies amplified off the mountains knocking us about all night, laying us right over!! We were on a mooring that night… still to brave more than 40kts at anchor…
You know your anchor is well set in thick mud but you still get a little pucker 🙂 This year has been an El Niño year which might account for the windy weather. An old salt told me that this one is strong enough to last into next year so we can expect the same. Luckily for me, the El Niño tends to keep hurricanes in check.
It has been a strange year this, weather wise. Cannot recall a summer as bad as this, well apart from the start of June which was fantastic
Dodging nasty weather and managing resources accurately describes our trip up west coast … and we spent a fortune on phone data too!
There is always next year 🙂
Wow. Rather you than me. I bet your glad of the gloopy mud on the sea bed now. Why not collect some of that rain water?
Why don't you catch rain water? That said, I should do that too on my next journey, because I always have too little.
Stay safe people. The weather has been awful this year. Apart from other things this year has been a write off for me. You should have my crew they don’t wash, themselves or dishes so no problem with water there 🤠🤠
Feel your pain hardly left Marina this year
So that was intense and can well imagine being completely done with it at some point.😮 Interesting information about the GPS.😅 Maybe more exciting sailing with low water..but I prefer to see the rocks above than underwater..even in the widest channel..and especially now after that GPS and map experience and explanation.😅 You not collecting rainwater yet to replenish the water supply or replaced it besides using salt water when level tanks is low? Or for doing that too few rain showers or surface to collect? Stay safe and following seas❤
Noticeably more wind than normal I’d say (in the UK).
Do you not have a water maker ?? You should look into a starlink basic roam package would suit you guys well. Sorry we are sending you all our bad weather !
What chartplotter do you have ?
Re: Data, go onshore, pick up a 20 eur sim card from vodafone, set it to unlimited data and away you go
Really enjoyed this. Not the stress you had to endure but how you managed it. It's Thursday night where I am so hope all's well. Looking forward with anticipation to your next vlog.
Wow, you two. Good for you for trying to gut it out for the trip up the west coast. The weather gods just had other ideas this season. Have you thought about doing a passage south to warmer weather for winter? You deserve some warmer weather. Namaste.
I hate being pinned down on anchor (or ball) by storms.
I got a story about that one, I don't know if you heard about the December winds in the Caribbean.
There’s 2 good weeks coming in September hang on in there 🤔 cheers from the future.
Shit summer this year no argument there.
wonderful video again well done you two
What a ripper, you captured the moments of intense frustration well. Btw how easy was it to get the anchor up after that little session? Best
Skull/Schull is worth a look as it is in the lee of hills to the west and Mt Gabriel to the North. Holding ground uncertain but sufficient north to south distance in the bay to escape Atlantic swells. Refuge from southerlies less certain. Maybe you have been there as I have not seen Eps. 1-310 yet. Union Hall remains my preferred in those parts.
6:44 good point Bev 😂
Had no idea GPS works like that, I thought it was like the Doppler effect, pretty much as Gaynor was going to explain it,
Which actually confuses me, (although I’m easily confused 😂) my old school GPS hand held 33.. we had a possible 27 satellites, all US military from memory, but we needed at least 3 to get a “good” reading.. and I assumed it was some triangulation effect, which is kinda stupid now i think about it, would need 3 points to measure in 3D space, but that’s not what you need, you only really 2D to measure distances/locations.. so cheers for that “food for thought”
17:07 wow!
Thanks Ladies 😊
We were stuck in Falmouth trying to get to Cork, with the goal of heading up the west coast. Eventually we gave up and headed up the Irish Sea to Scotland, which was much nicer!
What was your anchor and chain?
Was there not a decent mooring you could use?
