1. One thing we've found that works a treat are silicon baking sheets for placing on a counter then placing whatever on top of them. They really work for preventing sliding – much better than those no-slip grip mats. If noting else, they also do double as great BBQ cooking sheets.

  2. Nick and Terysa,

First, I would like to say that I wouldn't think that Nick was complaining; making what might be a valuable point for someone anticipating the purchase of a catamaran, coming from an experienced sailor. Good advice Nick.
Secondly, out of the mere 35 YouTube sailing channels that I am subscribed to, I have just realized that y'all's channel is by far my favorite. Y'all always seem to make me smile, you're straight forward with what I view as an honest opinion, there isn't a lot of prescripted dialogue (if any), there isn't any drama, and I really just enjoy watching y'all's fun loving nature. Besides y'all enjoy beer as much as I do. Thank y'all so very much for sharing.
    Cheers!

    Blue Skies and Fair Winds.

    Faithfully,

    James

  3. Great video as usual. Wife and I use Bluetooth headsets for motorcycles to solve "you need to face me". Sure we look silly but it works. Would love to sail where you are someday. Looks amazing.

  4. Head sets would help but so will time and practice. I was crewing with a couple on a Switch 51 who had lived aboard for three years. The guy and I were on the trampoline picking up a mooring in crowded and blustery Newport harbor. His wife put us in just the right position and kept us there for several minutes while we unfouled the pennants. Minimal hand signals. No raised voices. Great close quarter driving.

  5. Last year I picked up a set of duplex head set radios. Oh, no more shouting and much lower blood pressure. They are often called marriage savers. They were a good investment for us.

  6. I am enjoying the new Cat experiance and have been watching the build and sailing wih you Ruby Rose for a couple of years, looking forward to the new journies where ever good luck and good health. I get my kicks from the Cruise lines world wide, but you pair have the real thing .

  7. You two are such a lovely couple. I've been watching you for 1 year now. I'm learning a lot. You're really helping me make my first catamaran purchase🙏

  8. Really interesting to watch you both come from a mono to a cat and watch / experience the difference in speed and comfort. Must be a great feeling.

  9. I''m sure it's already on your shopping list, but a pair of headsets to talk to each other, and maybe a little bow camera you can see from the helm would be great.

  10. A new boat with all that technology but no headsets ? The daggerboards and light boat light wind sailing all the arguments or discussion about 180 mile days versus 220 mile days , luxury versus performance all seems a little pointless to me . Waiting for the perfect boat is like waiting for perfect weather, it’ll change by tomorrow no matter what . The ultimate boat is like the greener grass just over the horizon. Enjoy every moment of the day that’s here because in truth that’s what’s important.

  11. So fun to watch you sailing. I have a dumbell question: you put the mail sail up and then say you reef. Does that mean you lower the sail and put the battons in? I am confused because I am very new at this sailing stuff. Sorry!

  12. ..you sounds like a moron talking about daggers; you have just sail the boat for a few weeks, no real challenges.. dont need 5deg? Suddenly you do…. never race – why not – best way to learn and find out how to optimise your boat – that means security. Upwind sailing can be nice with good sails and good daggers/rudders; power up the boat – it has immense stability – it will slice through like a knife and outsail any normal boat…. it will not only point 5deg highter – it wil go faster bec it will not have leeway that makes a lot drag.

  13. Your whole journey in Vietnam I found to be so nice, the road travel you did and the city life with the all the food experiences and of course the build experiences. Now we have all the new adventures with the sailing and mishaps and successes that comes with that. You are living a great life and we are fortunate to see a little part of it.

  14. try leaving the helm amidships and manuovre using the engines only. not only have you two hulls, yous now have a wide twin engine motorboat, you can parrallel park!

  15. You two need some Raido head sets to talk to each other for when trying to get a mooring ball or anchor, or even backing in to a dock one on the front one on the back

  16. Totally agree, a gentleman does not sail to windward… I don’t see the real advantage of daggerboards for a cruising boat either. But there a lot of sentiment about “high performance”. Now obviously that’s a personal choice. We prefer to have Space, a piano, large beds etc, instead of sleeping in a hangmat to have 0,5 kn extra. But it’s everyone’s own opinion ofcourse.

As for communication; they do sell one ear headsets…

But why don’t you try this picking up a mooring ball… :do it “backwards”. One on the sugar scoop pushes a line through double it and then slowly back up while the other walks backwards. That way your close to the water instead of trying to fish the buoy from above. That way you have good communication also. Note I have seen this a few times and it works ( haven’t done it myself)

  17. I found that picking up a mooring from the stern is much easier than the bow, especially with your visibility and communications situation. Run a line from a bow cleat to the stern, pick up the mooring and then walk the line forward and make your mooring lines secure. I hope this works for you….

  18. Thanks for the content! I’m curious to get your opinion on the pros and cons of RR and RR2 (sloop vs cat sailing performance). Seems like you need to pay very close attention to rigging stress on a cat while under sail compared to a monohull when weather helm regulates ideal sail area.
