1. You are doing great things. Why would the universe clip your wings? …. or pontoons.
We are truly deeply heartbroken for you, but getting to know you through your videos I am confident you two will end up having an amazing unplanned adventure. It’s just how you roll 😊

  2. I'm very sorry about this situation. We know how you feel right now because we were in a similar situation. Fingers crossed that the problem will be resolved as quickly as possible and without any impact on the safety of the vessel.

  3. I feel so sorry for you and Awen to have experienced such an accident at anchor, at your arrival. It 's sad but nobody was hurt, again you are doing your best with the situation, and got it right, so finger crossed, after this passage, you learned a lot about the boat, sailing the ocean and you. Hopefully you can expect a positive team work to support the challenge of insurance, repairs and sailing again. You are both showing the best of who you are, that makes best sailors in the community. 🦺

  4. OMG… Holy shi*…. we really feel With you guys… but you handle this trauma like a pro. Keep up my friends🏋🏻‍♀️🤟🏋🏻‍♀️

  5. Hey guys so sorry to hear this. You may not wish to hear this but I really believe things happen for a reason. Hopefully you will be able to determine what that reason is. I’m so sorry to hear of this delY

  6. OMG, guys my heart goes out to you both, cant believe that you've been hit. i really hope it gets sorted quickly with minimum fuss. There's only one thing for it stefan a very large chouchen. wishing you both good luck with the repairs, from a follow sailor who loves sailing in Brittany waters

  7. Heartbreaking but double rations of chocolate for Stephane such a cool head. Lucky no serious injuries the boat can be repaired,to be on the hard within a few hours after and the expertise readily available eases the pain a bit really feeling for you after such a cracking crossing 😢. Here’s to it being sorted asap.

  8. All I can offer is some strategic thinking that might reveal different options available to you over the next 6 months. My concern that a thump of that severity may have caused grp flexing over a wider area than initially apparent. It can take months for stress crazing in gel coat to fully reveal itself. I would initially be looking for vertical crazing adjacent to the first bulkhead fore and aft of the point of impact.

How about buying some think-time by getting a rough GRP patch on the full thickness crack after grinding out any obvious adjacent gel crazing. Get the boat seaworthy and sail up to Florida and exhibit your still beautiful AWEN. Outremer could apply a sticky advert panel over the external quick-fix section. After the show decompress, do some gentle sailing in the Bahamas and arrange the full repair later summer when you will more confident the scope of the damage has been revealed.

Were the dagger boards up at the time of the impact? I hope that much of the energy of the impact dissipated in a sidewards slip over the water unlike deep keel monohull yachts that thump each other like heavyweight boxers.

Your confidence in AWEN will return over the net 18 months as you retest the heavy weather envelope. It will all be a distant nearly forgotten memory in a year or two when you are swinging at anchor in a distant Polynesian atoll.

  9. Holly, Stéphane, nous sommes tellement tristes de cet accident sur votre magnifique bateau. Nous espérons, comme tous, que vous naviguerez à nouveau très bientôt ; Nous vous envoyons toutes nos ondes positives. Magali & Philippe ❤

  10. Such a shame this happened despite all your measures e.g. hiring crew for the crossing! At the same time lucky as you noted that it happened where it did, that Outremer has engaged to help out etc. Certainly an adventure and thanks for sharing!!!

  11. I have just come across your channel and have subscribed. I am so sorry you had to go through this. You handled it very well, so hats off to you both. Sending you good recovery and repair vibes. Hope you are back in the water soon 🙂 Sending positive thoughts all the way from New Zealand.

  12. So sorry to see that happen to you both. Sailing guarantees to throw you unexpected situations. I was very impressed with both of you for your fortitude and grace. It will be fixed as good as new.

  13. ooh Guys thats terrible news new boat and all
But what ive seen with Outremmer first with Seth and Archer then with Great Circle after they were hit they will have you sorted as quick as possible
A amazing boat yard that backs its product

  14. I'm so sorry for you, Holly and Stephan. Crazy sail across an ocean and then get hit in the anchorage. At least the skipper came over and met you and took responsibility. I've seen these tourists sail off like nothing happened. Hopefully a little epoxy and carbon and you are good as new. 🙂

  15. That sux but everyone is ok You will fix her and be on your way . Luv that quote "people that Do, break stuff ! 😂 Hopefully you will make Miami ,we were looking forward to meeting you both .. Take care.🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷

  16. Holly and Stephane! 😢 so sad this happened and that you are going through this, but like you guys said, it could have been much worse and you and Awen will get back up! I love the saying, people that do stuff, break stuff! You will continue to do abnd break, it’s all about getting back up! We are thinking of you guys! stay well! Francisco and Haley SV Among Mermaids

  17. Well, I want to meet up with you guys even more. Steph, you stayed calm, cool and collected, when a lot of people(myself) would have lost their shh…mind. Lol You are great people to realize that, that man was also very gut wrenched at what just happened, and you welcomed him aboard with tact. I’m sure he probably felt terrible coming aboard AWEN. Great Humans still exist!🤗

  18. Merci de nous avoir fait partager en direct cet affreux évènement . Avec Outremer vous êtes en de bonnes mains. C’est déjà çà! Nous sommes de tout cœur avec vous. Sylvie et Patrick OUTREMER 42

  19. Oh, I am so sorry. I can't imagine how frustrated you must be feeling. You both seem to be positive and optimistic. We hope you aren't put out for long. I am sorry you were injured as well.

  20. We are so sad about what happened. But also very admired by your reaction and calm. You are a super couple and an example for all us sailors. We are sure AWEN will get restored more beautiful than before and hope to be so lucky to meet you one day

  21. Awful news and it hurts to watch this. I cannot imagine your disappointment. Insurance or not, but a huge hassle and so sad to see this beautiful boat damaged. All the best wit the repair and onwards travel. We are off on Joile next week, but will be north of you guys unfortunately.

  22. You guys showed such calmness and grace today. Can’t imagine how it would feel to make it through the straits of Gibraltar without an orca “interaction”, all the way across the Atlantic unscathed, and then have this happen. Here’s to a solid repair (stronger than before!) and a return to your adventure.

  23. Just saw the video … wow, so sorry. Another case of even when you do everything right, something can happen and alter your plans completely. I hope this will be just a small detour in your long journey. It reminds me a bit of what happened to Great Circle.

What is amazing is to see how Outremer jumped in … like they did with Great Circle. Is some ways, this might be even more impactful PR then the Miami boat show.

hopefully this is quickly be resolved. Looking forward to hear great positive news.

  24. Good lord you took that well. Not sure I could have maintained my composure. I probably would have seriously injured myself trying to fend them off with my legs. There is no way that should have happened in those conditions. In any case, your boat will be repaired and your journey will resume in short order.

  25. Wow shows how fragile these fiberglass boats are. Imagine if you were sailing at night and hit something in the water. I see now why so many are going with Aluminum.

  26. Very sorry to see this. Glad everybody is OK. That’s the important part!

In the end, this is actually not that bad and the fix is possibly quite straightforward! It happened to me as well, due to a collision when someone else was at the helm and I was down below. Fiberglass was able to be repaired and structurally made perfect within two weeks. Cosmetically on the outside, you can’t even tell what happened after new gelcoat.

    Wishing you guys good luck!

  27. Wow what a totally unexpected disaster!

    Devastating!

But it really shows how vulnerable a standard fiberglass layup is against a direct impact.

Something to seriously consider at design stage.

As the T-Shirt says "Shit Happens" and the more you can prepare for it the better.

I hope the damage is only minor and you're back enjoying you're cruising like ASAP.

    All the best.

I enjoy each and every one of your videos and how helpful you were even prior to taking delivery.

You're a great team and excellent communicators, this is truly devastating!! 😊

  28. SV Cuba got T boned at anchor just a while ago. I'd have to watch the episode again, they where hit by a reckless cat, don't remember the island though.

  29. Awww man what a bummer. This will be a true test of the fixability of carbon/glass hulls. In the end I truly hope it's only time that is lost out of this.
