De ce ne-am hotărât asupra unui design ciudat de cockpit

I always watch your videos with a hint of envy in my admiration. I envy the skill you have and the time you are able to lavish on this boat. She is going to be fabulous. If only I could have you look at mine for a couple of months! Seriously it’s a beautiful thing to watch the workmanship with the passion at work, real craftsmanship at play 👏👏
Shouldn't a spline, like you used, have it's wood grain running perpendicular to the joint for strength? It appears to be running parallel to it.
Aladino certainly works fast – 🙂. Hopefully your cockpit choice is right for you. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Per, Denmark
Upon the azure canvas, a vessel set to roam,
"Magic Carpet" embarks, seeking lands unknown.
Sails catching whispers, it dances with the breeze,
Chasing sunsets and tales, over the open seas.
Through moonlit nights and starry dreams it sails,
To exotic shores, where adventure never fails.
In distant isles and spice-scented air it weaves,
A journey of wonder, where the heart believes
Re cockpit re design, ❤looks great, have you considered adding extra scuppers in the bulwarks to drain the trapped water ahead of the new coamings to improve drainage?
The cockpit enclosure showcased so many of your woodworking talents into one project. Congratulations on another great project!
A boat builder can never have too many clamps. You are creating a beautiful and practical cockpit.
I really enjoyed the music in this episode. Especially, the glassing of the stern segment. Keep it up, Maya!
Maya, thanks for the great soundtracks!
Progress looks great! Can you notate what songs and music and singers you are playing. You'll have great taste in music. Love the music along with the progress of the boat. Cheers.
Are those almost vertical coamings still a comfortible backrest when the boat is heeling over?
Love the proposed coaming design. The Able Marine Apogee 50 had a similar design that I always liked.
Thank you so much, for a great job of bringing us the Boat Build. 🙂
Good job! Addressing concerns about snap back was very satisfying. That coamings design is going to look beautiful. I'm very excited to see you work some nice wood into the final shape of the cap rails for all of it.
As regards the new cockpit design, I do hope you've taken into account that you've opened up the cockpit to the sea quite substantially. Running downwind in heavy seas, this design is an invitation for green water to fill the cockpit.
So, when heavy weather comes, which it will, heave to and don't pay out a sea anchor over the stern (which many long keelers like)!
Luv me some piano.
Good morning from a very warm Auckland New Zealand. The shed looks great along with your new coaming design, I like it and will add a nice feature to your craft. Cheers and well done, Ian
What make is the boat near your boat called Meridian?
I really enjoy watching how you tackle different tasks, methodical and well explained. Keep up the good work, and you will reap the rewards.
Just amazing! Such a joy to see your work. Such a solid work is going to make a very solid Magic(al) Carpet! Thank you for sharing your amazing skills <3
I’m thinking your behind real time we are below freezing here now, I’m stopped on my fibreglass work now.
Yeah buddy, good work.
Isn’t the grain direction on your spline wrong? The spline grain should run 90 degrees to the joint so it doesn’t split along the grain. Just asking
Do you remember how television was made in the 80s or 90s? About 20 People filmed and edited and cut and narrated a video and describe, what other 10 people have been working on. Today, her, there a TWO people, doing this every WEEK. Alone! And so great. Ich ziehe meinen Hut, don’t know the english translation, but Aladino of course speaks deutsch fluently, too. Love from Hamburg.
Gotta say the music in this episode was very enjoyable.
I looked for a listing but no dice.
It would be nice to hear some more of her in the future, and a listing of who it is would be appreciated.
Good job.😊
After listening to Maya, I was thinking we could t you roll an edge like a half pipe or the end of a snow plow, so that the force of the water as your heeling to one side would cause it to spin and self evacuate again like a snow ploy out of the boat?
I'm starting to think this boat is going to be as beautiful as Magic Carpet I! (and that's a real complement)
as an alternative you could have let the coamings go aft parallel to the cockpit up to the stern bulwark. That's how traditional English cutters used to deal with water on deck. In the stern bulwark would have been large openings for the water to flow out. It would have both, enhanced the traditional looks of the boat and ensured a dry cockpit.
I like the comings, may consider doing that when building my boat.
Behind every Great Man, is a Great Woman! Definitely the case here! You two are what every boat in need, needs. Depending on my dilemma, I either find myself asking, What would Jesus do? or, what would Aladino do? 🤣
What’s the filler used on the transom piece? Thanks
Hi, Umm, could you please pin a post of the music this episode. You have outdone yourself. I hesitate to ask where you get it? Do you have a music list somewhere. It's always astounding.
I love this project. Aladino is an amazing carpenter/boat builder and I love watching him work. You guys are awesome!
This episode is so epic, I watched it a second time. Learning from Aladino and listening to your splendit music selection brightens up my sunday evening (cold, wet weather where I can't neither sail nor build on the boat). I'm really curious how the water will run down those coamings. My guess is that the outward bend will keep the water outside and it will eventually geysir outboard (because of the tilt), especially when the boat heels a bit.
I am in no way a sailor so don't understand the pros and cons of the curve you are putting in. I am glad you are doing it though, I thought it looked very good when you showed it on your earlier video. Had been wondering ever since.
Loved the music!!
Guys, as always, your shows are very interesting, and for me, entertaining. Excellent work all-round 😊.
I love that new cockpit design could it be a little higher to keep more seawater out.
Yes Indeed Aladino, Nice video.
Good idea by inverting direction of one single piece.
Changes everything.
See you next week.
Maya, you are a very talented musician and Aladino unbelievable craftsman who enhances the amazing reputation that Swiss (Italian) Artisans have throughout the world. I really love the videos having built/restored 3 yachts and been a musician for the greater part of life. Congratulations on your work to both of you.
I'm afraid I don't like the end results of moving the coaming. From what you did, you made the issue of water in the cockpit WORSE by not allowing for easy water flow out away from the cockpit. Instead you made a trough between the coaming and rail to keep water sloshing INSIDE the cockpit. Should have listened to Maya!!
Thanks!
Super nice to follow you. Please use a mask when working the epoxy 🙂
Great work guys, a pleasure so see the progress & fun in it all. Question though: I have to wonder if water is not going to stand still on the side-deck between curved combing and bulwark. Will you add an extra scupper there? Very curious abouth that. Keep up the good work & spirits 😉
Nicely done revisions of the cockpit! And I hope that Maya is on her way to rebuilding her chops with bow and finger technique. After extended breaks from my instruments, the rebuilding process is a weird mix of relief, self-recrimination, and unrealistic expectations. But perhaps she has better character and personal balance than I do. 🙂 Bon Chance.
Wunderful episode, thank you!
Have you looked at possible auto pilot drives and or windvane systems as they would impact your coaming design possibly. My old Tartan 34 classic has similar lines for the coaming at the foreword section of the cockpit but I would like the way you do the aft end. Also I would make scuppers at the aft end of the coaming to allow spray water to drain out quickly. Cheers, Richard
Can’t wait for you to be back on the water sailing and playing violin on shore too. Know you of course both feel the same way.
