VA RUGAM SA FITI AMABILI IN COMENTARII!

  1. Thomas it is just so wonderful that you are willing to share your experience and knowledge- It is priceless and because you do that – People such as me pray to the Only True God of Israel- No Viking gods because we all know they are not gods –
    Have a safe trip

  2. Hi Thomas,
Again a very good video. Nice how you explain your decisions.
You should have much more followers here on YouTube.
    Stay save my friend 🍀

  3. Once again thank you Thomas for the thoroughly analysation of your sailing plans concerning the weather. A lot to learn here. Looking forward for the future episodes. Stay safe

  4. 11:00 "I'm so hardcore, I don't need technology, I'm sailing with my sextant, a good clock and a barometer, like it was done for centuries!"

Yup, and these people are going to disappear like they did for centuries before all the modern technology. "SY <x>, lost at sea."

Sailing has become safer in the last few decades, not because the boats got that much better, but because all the modern technology. It's very unlikely you'll be surprised by weather, the only way to hit a reef is when it is uncharted (or the charts are bad) because you know your position with an accuracy that was the stuff of a sailor's yarn just 50 years ago. Even if your boat sinks, you'll probably have an EPIRB, so you'll be found about as quickly as the rescuers can get there.

  5. Even the most powerful mainframe computers , which analysis and predict weather for us now , cannot predict with accuracy . Sure , they give us a much better idea of what to expect , but as you say Thomas , you are playing chess with the the Viking gods , so all the very best luck !

  6. Still the best sailor with a youtube channel!! Starlink is a real gamechanger for seafarers!! Eventhough Predict and windy have a near 50-60% accuracy they generally 'see' the big dangerous systems (but not allways). My route planning is usually 5-6 nautical miles to shore for internet connexion and better security. When delivering catamarans around the med we're never far from land. Last year through the red sea was complicated for other reasons 🙂

  7. Hey Thomas, another nice video with good explained sailing and weather facts. One sentence though is crucial: everything in plus you take on board can break. But: every info you can get as a sailor increases the level of safety. It is up to the experienced sailor to find the balance. And for sure the technical equipment is today very reliable, as long as there is no direct lightning ⚡️ hit, same as you had to go through.
As a sailor myself I am as well taking all info possible in consideration, and I am never leaving the port without a minimal technical backup.
I even did build some backup navigation tools that I am able to fix myself in case they would break. A small box can save my day if the plotters should break…
Crossing fingers that you find your safe way through the Torres Strait! Best wishes! Mitch

  8. Honestly; the best sailor of my acquaintance. Really good stuff. If you'll forgive me, I have an admin question; what program do you use for your infographics? You're SO good at explaining in a diagram, what you're saying with your words. Thanks again for sharing your [expert] journey with us. 🙂

  9. Genuine question. How do you give 24 hours notice and online forms if you don't have internet at sea? Do they refuse entry and fine you or throw you out?

  10. A great video and very clearly described the process. 35 years ago we only had sextant and charts and not much else. Waiting in PNG for 4 weeks to get the Philippians, in the end we left as the cyclonic tropical depressions never developed. Half way there 3 developed one after the other and that was not fun at all. Now a days it is so much easier to work it out. Sail safe

  11. Been a subscriber for a long time and I’m always impressed with your knowledge…..and the free spirit in you allowing for calculated risks. Another great video.

  12. Hello Thomas, if you have time you can try to find Holy from "Wind Hippie Sailing" around your area. She should be somewhere at the Solomon Islands… Good luck to you on your further travel!

  13. Hi Thomas! Thank you for your exzellent Videos and for taking me aboard befree. Did. you use Windy for your 12 day forecasts and does Windy provide the thunderstorm Data? The kilojoule Dates….? Thx Christian 🙋🏼‍♂️

  14. Great video Thomas very hard to get old school advice these days unless you’re in the gang… be safe hope all is well. Would suggest you could probably run a paid online course on your weather and route planning…

  15. Great decision making, makes me remember Bernard Moitessier’s passage judging only from his observations much more info available to the sailor today, far winds.

  16. Thanks for the info Thomas. I also enjoyed the one last week or so about hybrid yachts vs diesels . Good information. An the part about the panda generator. In the 80 ties I was a dealer for them in Houston, Texas. How ever we learn fast that we needed to dropout of that deal. You would think by now they would learn how to make one that would stay together
