  1. Good plan, don't be in hurry and make a plan but be flexible to change any time thats why you sailing around the World , and safety is most important , tske care and enjoy your journy 👍👍

  2. Another delicious update lads. You can’t beat Mother Nature if she wants to blow the wrong way. Would not be fun motoring round NZ. Looking forward to future adventures

  3. In my opinion you have made a wise decision. Regarding New Caledonia, in 1959 two of my fellow Cadets went ashore and "entertained" two local Ladies. A couple of days later they visited the ship's Doctor. Nasty !! Be careful but have fun. Cheers Michael

  4. Well you've done a lot more than most world cruisers visiting NZ, so don't feel bad. While you're that way do visit Anchorage in Abel Tasman. Be wary if you're planning to return North via the West coast. It's the windy side and there's not many opportunities for shelter.

  5. Alot about sailing is being realistic with future intentions. Along with the details of the passage planning itself its also as important to go by gut instinct and the general feel of experiences already had. It is an integral part of sailing itself many don't always cover as much. Thanks for sharing your trip lads 👍

  6. As you said guys the bottom of the South Island is in the roaring 40s and after that it's the screaming 50s. Sailing down there is no joke and you really need an expedition-type yacht to do it safetly. Anyway, hope you will complete your circumnavigation of the North Island going up the West Coast with the Southerlies behind you.

  7. OMG you guys scared the crap out of me… thought for a sec you would quit… pfff. but probably the right choice. up to Australia! If you recall Atlas in New York.. Canada.. NZ Sidney AUS. When you guys are 95 of age and in a eldery home you've got a lot off memories to recall.

  8. We love watching you fellow Taffs sailing around the world. We have watched you from the very beginning. You will love Tasmania and we might see you in Western Australia. Keep up the good work. Pop Hwyl, Delyth and Mark

  9. Good decision, IMHO. South Island is large, remote, sparsely provided with safe ports, and getting cooler by the day 😳
Torrent Bay ? Certainly looks lovely.
I look forward to the next videos! Always interesting 👍🙏

  10. now you know why kiwis are such good sailers.this is where i learnt to sail with my farther in Nelson. love your work. hopefully can catch up with you guys in Australia. stay safe

  11. Agree with not rushing a coastal sail. Hopefully the Aussie weather will be kind. I'm east coast Au, north of Sydney, exciting to have you guys in this neck of the woods.

  12. Brilliant fellers I'm doing some catch up with your channel ,I've not had much time ,my boss keeps me busy but I feel like I've rejoined the brotherhood the most important question I need to ask is what are you doing about CHEESE, I have sleepless nights worrying about supply issues? If possible could you maybe do some sampling, now and again cheese around the World, I do hope this message hasn't traumatised you guys and i apologise in advance best regards your worst best friend in the world😊.

  13. Well guys, to me this is not disappointing. Changing weather conditions and technical challenges, it all is a part of sailing life. Safety above all, I was already expecting this taking into account the geographical position of the South Island. No doubt that you will come forward with other most interesting and well made episodes. Regards from sailing country The Netherlands.🇳🇱

  14. I think you'll find the west coast fast sailing northbound, but otherwise boring. (compared with east coast). That applies to both islands. Good choice, to do NI only and then head east to Tasmania or somewhere.

  15. I'm not sure if you've realized but if you're in Sydney Harbour on Boxing day that will put you at the start of the iconic Sydney-Hobart yacht race.

  16. There’s a great message here lads, it’s very important to know when to make a call and it sounds like you’ve got it spot on 👍

  17. Hi. l am also very relieved that you have abandoned the idea of circumnavigating New Zealand. I have thought that it was a terrible idea from the start when you announced it but I didn't want to write a negative comment. The Tasman Sea and the whole west coast of New Zealand is no place for a 34 foot recreational yacht – in any season and in any size of yacht. Any safe passage plan from Milford Sound to Cape Reinga would have taken you so far off shore because there are NO harbours (except for Greymouth) on the south island west coast. The prevailing winds make it a horrible lee shore. l was truly scared for you and hoped someone – your weather router or your family would talk you out of it. Thank God you have come to your senses. l wish you fair winds and safe havens and please stay on the "Milk Run" for the rest of your circumnavigation. That is going to be challenging enough for poor Atlas!

  18. Good plan lads! It's all about being realistic and adapting. NYE in Sydney would be fantastic! We have a bit of an adventure coming up this weekend – we're moving our boat (Jeanneau SO 40.3) from Levington, on the River Orwell, to her new home at Fambridge on the Crouch. It might not be far, but its the furthest we've been in a while…

  19. Be safe, stay in the subtropical regions, as the Southern Ocean is brutal in the fall (May == November)!! Do you still have your weather experts helping you? Tropical storms and gales can always be an issue. Your decision is for the best!

  20. Your sailing maturity is showing. Never apologize when you take a safer route to conserve life and the ship. The waters youre in now have a history of claiming many lives and many vessels. Take your time. That gives you the opportunity to explain that sauce you been using on your meals….gotcha!

  21. Marlborough sounds North western coast of the South island.

If you haven't already sailed in there or if it's not too late and you've already left NZ.

You must be looking forward to getting to Oz for a " Real Pavlova"

While in Sydney drive down the South coast beautiful scenery and even better cheese at Tilba Tilba, Bodalla and Bega

    Cheers
