So funny I actually have a sea chaser and I am so disappointed. almost everything you pointed out about the wires and how things could be better. The company doesn’t even care about it, they brush you off and don’t care about the customer at all. Super disappointed! Thanks for showing other boats that are in a good price range!
Still all fiberglass…aluminum much more durable and better boate
Do the math
$150k purchase
$ $10k per year to operate, own etc
After 10 years operating cost $100k. Say it’s half that’s or $50k
Just the operation cost, you can go on Open Boat charters for $150 bucks ( 2x for 2 people) is $300+ $100 tip for mate. saw where this is going
Cheaper to charter than to own
Now worries.
The prices on these boats are insane! I'm 61 so I guess I'll just keep my Whaler 230 Outrage! Nothing here seems to match the quality. Cobia came out on top of all the boats. Plan on $10,000 for the trailer, I just bought one.
Cobia best price and top quality, I don't think they have nothing to envy from pursuit
One has a Yamaha, the other has a welfare motor… (Merc)?
Seems like these days the best value for the money are the Yamaha AR250s (feet per Foot new). Seems like a great value for a 25 foot boat. Id prefer a 34 foot center console but to your point they are like 90K. Wtf
I personally think all center console boats are a ripoff. They are the easiest to build and require the least amount of materials. They used to be the cheapest boats around back in the late 90's and early 2000s. Couldn't give them away. I would never pay those insane prices for one of those. Fishing is boring.
That last Sea Pro was on point. A little crowded layout but very clean and well thought out. Decent price as well.
Well, one's a Pursuit. The other is a Sea Chaser. Pursuit is an excellent builder, Sea Chaser is crap.
I disagree about the sweet spot, 27 ft is the sweet spot =). Anyhow, most of the price of boats are going to be the 30-40% markup from the dealer. Beyond that, motors and electronics are the most expensive in a boat.
My opinion, like everything else it's not over priced if people, for whatever reason i.e. stupid money, just plain stupid, commercially viable, et al, are willing to pay it. In my opinion though a 24 foot boat is no where equal that of a 50K automobile in terms of engineering, complexity, cost to build, etc. And most automobiles are over priced these days. So that makes these boats way overpriced when you look at what goes into them to produce. But as as long as the low volume/high price model works for the boating industry it will remain so.
Back in 2021, same Dusky 252XFT was going for 91k for the base boat (without electronics, live well, etc). It doesn't feel like Dusky has changed their prices much with the stabilization of the supply chain, the lower demand for boats, or tariffs, which leads me to believe they didn't raise their prices during the pandemic like the other manufacturers did. Dusky is the utilitarian boat manufacturer and I love them for it.
I owned a 350cc Cobia for three years. Fantastic boat for the money.. Very manageable. Light but with a great hull flare and high bow. Too light for its own good. Needed another 2,000 pounds to manage 3-5 footers better. Otherwise, stay home on those days. all must have a gyro and interceptors. Make sure you get them both.
The Cobra is a nice boat but just cannot bring myself to spend 15K more because it has Yamaha's on it, Put twin Suzuki's on it, it becomes way more affordable, Yamaha's are not any better than Suzuki, I live out on eastern Long Island, I know guys who run both brands and say the same thing. Ive heard of more corrosion issues on Yammie's but who knows.
As a Japanese person, I think Americans are extravagant.
In Japan, a 27ft boat that Americans wouldn't even look at costs $250,000 even with the current weak yen rate.
I envy America, where you can get as many high-quality, high-performance boats as you want.
I cant believe there is a classification of boats called "sandbar" boats. I thought the prudent mariner avoided such things as sandbars, rock ledge, channel markers, floating debris and such things like that.
This is why I find old Makos in people's back yard, give them a 5k for it, spend 10k getting it redone with a used Yamaha and fish it for the next 10 years and sell it to another happy fisherman. 😎
Seachasers are junk.
The Dusky was the best for the money. Nice rig
I really liked that last Sea Pro! Had everything that I wanted! Looks very quality, and comfortable!
Bought an ex Freedom club boat 2023 Key West 239 w/ a Yami 250 for $63k… I would do it again.
Never heard the term "tension hinge". I believe its a friction hinge. Also a "rocket launcher" as I understand the term is not a rod holder in the stern its the rod holders in the t top.
Huge difference between 26’ and 28’ boat.
On the first boat, why would they put twin 150hp? Honest question. Would a single 300hp really cost more? For a $150K boat, I would rather see a higher hp motor or twin set up.
I bought a 2001 Grady White 265 express in 2013 for $35k… Still running twin 200 HP HPDIs, run perfect… No way I'd ever buy a new boat…
I would rather have an old 1989 Grady White
Man that Cobia has my eye. We owned a 2022 seahunt 255. Loved the look of the boat. Wish I had gone with the gamefish 25 but I thought the 255 would have been a better family boat. I was wrong, the family wanted to fish. With that said I had some issues with the boat and it seems the Cobia has fixed those issues. One issue was no wiper. I didn’t need it much but when I did I really missed having it. 2nd was having to remove the cushions to get into the front boxes. To the point that we never used them. It was a pain taking the snap cushions off and several time broke the snaps off and had to get them sewn back on. Also it seems the center console on the Cobia is just a nicer setup then seahunt. I may be going to them on our next boat.
Sea Pro for the win, that head is huge for $115,000, 2nd choice was the Cobia with twin Yamaha’s for $146,000! The Dusky had no seating and you did not show what engines it came with. The Pursuit’s storage and fish locker looked difficult to access and it was the most expensive. The Sea Pro looked ideal for a family/fishing boat.
That Dusky is exactly what I’m looking for. I wish I could buy a new truck that was built with the same mindset.
Personally, i'm a Key West fan. I feel like you get a good boat for the $$ and they ride well!!
Boats for are nothing but fiberglass and an engine maybe $28000 certainly no where near $100000
I have a pursuit s378 and a s288 currently, used to have a 260 cc.FANTASTIC BOATS- I love them, I’d highly recommend the 260 cc as a beginner family boat
Man watching boat reviews from 2018 and seeing the 22-25 foot bay boats I want at an msrp of $40-$60k then vs the $80-$120k they cost today is hilarious and ridiculous. Boat prices are finally crashing, but it can't happen soon enough that we get back to those 2018 prices, which is where boats are actually valued. Seeing people list their 8-year-old boat for 25% more than it cost brand new with 0 hours has been brutal to watch over the past 5 years. That said, when prices do come down, the Sea Chaser 23 LX is the one boat I'm watching most. Looks like the perfect boat for 4-5 people.
Not one boat with sea keeper ride. I think that would be a must have in the 24 foot range.
