1. I asked Chat GCT if Hammerstein Highland House had serious damage from Melissa. It did not know about spacific damage to it, but they said highly likely since that area of Montigo Bay was horribly damaged. Since we as a family stayed there for so many Thanksgivings, I’ve worried about it.

  2. does the modern day sailor use a foot warmer for their radios like we did with cb radio back in the 70's and 80's my base station could dead key 1/4 wat and modulation swing was almost 2500 watts going out a moon raker four about 60 feet up.. i coild talk on any channel of the 40 cd channels and talk to california from indiana easily on any given day and when skip rolled in i talked across to the other side of the earthy, england, france, even talked to a african once.. now thats a long as way from indiana..lol also does the coast guard when boarding for inspection.. do they check for illegal radio shit or they just after safety and drugs.. i also had a silly side band channel on upper 22 we had about 300 members who checked in from all over the world.. and i would log them in and out as they came and gone.. it was a fun winter hobbie while snowed in

  3. Please do give what you can to help the hurricane victims. However, ALWAYS watch out for scams that pop up about these things. Charity scamming is huge.

  4. Bobby, please tell us of the INSURANCE settlement. You promised but didn’t deliver which goes to your credibility. Thanks. Looking forward to you new catamaran. BTW when can we expect to see it regularly on your channel? Also, if your auction RESERVE is not met, will you refund the money you received?

  5. If your boat can be hauled out, do it. My boat went through a hurricane in the Florida keys. All the boats on moorings dragged the mooring ashore with them. Boats at the dock sank at the dock or wound up on top of the dock. Boats in the haul out yard were fine.

  6. Bobby, I'm surprised that you don't know about weather fax broadcasts. The National Weather Service has been broadcasting weather charts since the 1950's. Nobody has been blind to the weather conditions unless they were ignorant or chose to not get the equipment. When I made a passage from Honolulu to San Francisco in 1987, I would receive a daily weather chart of the North Pacific and I could choose one of three different frequencies to find the one with the best propagation. All that was needed was an HF radio and a dedicated fax machine. These days you can get weather fax with an inexpensive software defined radio and a laptop. Having that weather chart was key to many navigation decisions and I can't imagine that anyone would go without but I see plenty of examples on YouTube of people doing just that.

I have to correct you about your mention of SSB radio. SSB isn't the technology, it's just a modulation method. High Frequency radio (HF) is the technology.

  7. But if you are sailing from the North Pacific to the South Pacific, doesn't that mean you are exposed to hurricane season in at least one of the hemispheres since they have opposite seasons?

  8. I got my insurance renewal last month to see a rate reduced $2,400 / year. I got excited and the I realized they no longer cover named storms in FL (which is where the boat is located). Dickheads

  9. New Subscriber here! Appreciating all the Information on this Channel. Is there an "Insurance" Video? The Comments about Insurance, raised a few Questions.

  10. Bobby, Im starting to enjoy all the news worthy stories that you recently posted. The yacht seizure, the parasite smuggling and the current one regarding hurricanes. I find the topics interesting, informative and entertaining. Hopefully we’ll see more like them. I think you’re on to something! Keep up the good work!
