Many of the crashes you showed here were mentioned in the book. Thank you for posting this, makes it so I don't have to look them up. I think all of the events you posted were during races but there were two that seemed particularly important that happened during practice runs during the 34th Americas cup, when Oracle Team USA, Jimmy Spithill driving, went over in high winds and lost the boat under the Golden Gate Bridge and then later when Artemus racing, Nathan Outtridge driving, lost a man who was trapped under the boat and died. As for safety, these two events played a large roll in the development of safety equipment and training moving forward.

3. Ever since they started allowing multi-hull and plaining it turned America's Cup into an extreme sport. Noto too many 50+ year-old experienced skippers as it used to be with a vessel capable of hauling cargo. Just fragile carbon fiber and dangerous maneuvers. Perhaps the next step they will start allowing gliding. It's almost there. They keep adding keels on the side turning into wings.

10. I have loved the Americas cup since 1977. when I heard all the stuff that Ted had to go through. I fell in love with the 12-meter. then in 1983 with all the boats from all the countries. the boats were single hull but classy. and when they made the switch to the IACC boats. even those were nice to see and you knew they were safe. but today's boats are not really sailing. but way too extreme. YOu could also say there is no skill but hang on for dear life. I would love for them to go back to the 12 meter( I still think there is more to get out of them) or even the IACC boats. the foiliers are fun to watch. but also almost every race there is a huge problem or even a death ( Bartman)

20. I'm not familiar with World Cup sailing but it looks to me that the hydrofoil cats are going much faster. The racing looks much more competitive so yes I would say it has become more dangerous.

21. Lost interest when they abandoned the 12 meter single hull!
