Great to have you both on board, and thank you for your kind words about the 595! If you ever hit the jackpot, our door is always open 🤩
Sophie's french accent is so beautiful to listen to but I don't think it's ever been quite so appropriate as when putting the final nail into the coffin of Ryan's sartorial style with "gross shoes!" :-)!
Thanks for the video, very cool to see some of the new boats out there. A couple of notes: I think the Excess has the same hulls as an equivalent Lagoon (lots of space, but lower performance). On used Hallburg-Rassys, careful of the DC electrical system which uses a proprietary digital switching system that comes from Sweden. Hard to debug without their tech on board or sending hardware back and forth. Beautiful boats though, and they really do sail everywhere.
Budget be DAMNED! Ryan, get an OnlyFans channel if that what it takes. Sophie, time for you to do a collaboration with Piper Blush!
YES! Get a Garcia 52' Explorer. Period. Full stop.
Has to be a catamaran, nothing comes near the space they have, perfect for liveaboard.
Who doesn’t like a smart, attractive French woman who speaks sailboats. And the dog! Fantastique.
Hey Ryan & Sophie! Love your boat tour from Germany . It’s exciting when there is possibly a newer Polar Seal in your thoughts. Boat Shows are a start, you both look marvelous. Barnacle is so cute, adapting well.
What wireless microphone system are you using? Seems small and portable. Love your videos!
I have never felt snubbed looking at any builders boats. Regardless if it was Oyster, Hallberg Rassy or one of the mass production boat builders.
Hi guys,
Catamaran will be my personal choice.
Great video!
Great video! I vote the Allures!
I know you guys probably are aware but I’d really be wary of the hull width on that Excess, at 38 ft she’s the same waterline length as our 2012 Seawind 1160 but damn those hulls look nearly twice as fat. I’d worry she’d be a dog punching into the waves and would not sail in light airs. To give a comparison we sail 8 knots in 10-12 knots of wind on an original main and jib (no downwind sail at the moment as I have a patch to put into our asym). She can even hold 6 knots in under 10 knots of wind (without the asym the best we’ve done as newbies is 6 knots in 7.5 knots of wind – and believe me we aren’t racers so that’s all the boat, not us). We also sail with a full live aboard payload. Before you go Excess I would seriously try to talk to current liveaboard owners to figure out real world performance (yes no fly bridge improves things but those hulls are a red flag)
I just hammered the "Like" button. That's one less like you need on your way to Baby Shark levels of Virality.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful video with us. 🎉 Luv you both and your puppy. Best always from Australia down under.
Ovni….. ours is a tank 🙂
Almost 30k views in 2 days, at that pace it takey only about 800000 days or 2000 years to get to baby shark levels.
Maybe next time don't do Ryan in a bikini, that was not nice at all!
Ever consider a 'used' Oyster? I've noticed quite a few come to market once the owners have circumnavigated, or when they want to upsize in order to circumnavigate… so the 45ft to 55ft range of boats post 2000 are around the 200k to 400k mark, of course with newer 525 /545's models around the million. Wouldn't take too much to make any of those ready for single/short handed sailing. After all, an " Oyster" is an "Oyster" and to my mind the pinacle of cruising yachts.
Fantastic review of the boats! We look forward to more.
You will also get a lot more boat for your money if you like Beneteau to go for a used Beneteau 57. A total different yacht to the Oceanis and far better blue water hull design by Farr Yachts design so you just know it will sail well and be comfortable.
We bought our Beneteau Oceanis especially for our dog, we then upgraded from a 41 to a 45 for her too! All because of the angle of the companionway!😂
Get an amel 60
Me and my family lived on a Oceanis 45 for two years and I have nothing but good things to say about it. We are now looking for the used Oceanis 55. It has the space and performance.
No love for Amel yachts?
If willing to consider a cat you should give very serious consideration to a Vision 444. It’s a smaller yard out of South Africa and a game changer of a boat. It’s a boat built for voyaging with features that just make sense, comes loaded out of the yard, and at a very competitive price point. Hull 12 is launching this week. We are Hull 20.
I think in the long run you would be happiest with a catamaran like Outré Mer . Speed and larger living quarters being the main reasons. Also when cruising the Caribbean or the Bahamas you are looking at a more shallow draft and sugar scoop boarding. Many sailing channels are converting for various reasons so resale is probably easier. Finally they are more stable at anchor for wine glasses. Happy hunting.
Absolutely loved the tour! Great work you guys – Way to charm the Oyster booth Barnicle 😉 My husband and I have the same checklist, and we are dreaming of a Beneteau Sense 50 – 55 or 57. Sadly they are no longer in production – but WOW does it ever check all those boxes! Maybe hit up Yacht World and pick up a sweet 2018 that's on budget? You will be THE most popular sundowner boat at the anchorage.
You sound like you're getting ready to leave Ryan/or don't want to be around him anymore. Anyways, if you hustle there is a certain company you could invest in, and ten years from now possibly afford your dream yacht. Hint: Company's CEO is Elon Musk. And comoany also involves transportation. If I was the dude, I would just leave this woman and get a nice Phillipine wife. 20 years younger. 😅
still in love with my Beneteau Sense 50 price was 300k like new, 5 years later its worth 400k
Nice to see you back!
Y'all are cool, i subbed.
Thanks a lot for this European Boat Show Tour and your 5 short listed boat. I just want to share with you my own experience after a 2 weeks cruising (return Toulon / Corsica) in mid septembre last year on an EXCESS 12 catamaran.
– For me, EXCESS catamaran are not as faster as they pretend due to a high load/weight (more than 11 tons for 40 foot). EXCESS 12 catamaran is a sistership of Lagoon 40 or 42, well known for their comfort but not really for their high speed. They ara too heavy. Have a look to Nautitech Open 40 (8 Tons)…I think, on speed point of view, it is really a good choice :). You have also Catana, Outremer (for France production). Of course the price is not the same than EXCESS/Beneteau
– Our EXCESS 12 had a "flexible" bimini top. For me it is dangerous, especially when you want to drop down the main sail (you can fall down). The EXCESS 11 that you visited had a hard bimini top, better choice I think.
– Steering wheels are very exposed. You need to protect them, even if you use mostly the autopilot
– The interior is well finished with many storages and easy to access. It's really good point
– We always be able to eat into the cockpit, an other good point for a catamaran.
– Access to the sea is easy.
– Life on board and at anchor is really great compared to a monohull (we own a 2008 Sun Odyssey 36i Perf.).
Of course, when you are downwind the speed may be better than a monohull. But, even on a transatlantic, I'm not sure you'll be faster than the Oceanis 46.1 with this kind of catamaran. But at the anchor it makes the difference !
Christophe from Brittany
Hi guys. Personally I would never, ever buy a cat. Not only as they do not perform upwind but also because one mistake under too much sail or a rogue wave can turn the thing upside down, with no options to get it right way up again. Especially the last…..I wish not to see that for Barny. I nickname her "Lively Lady", after the famous yacht sailed by Alec Rose. And yes Ryan. I sailed with a Berner Sennendog on a 28ft sailboat. No sweat.
I advise on Polar Seal II: Go for a second hand Beneteau in the footage and interior design that appeals to you. Never buy a new one. 5 year olds should be within your budget and not wornout completely. Buying an ex-charter boat is always a risk.
Let me know what you come up with.
Oyster is on my dream board 😂
Vill du köpa en ny båt? Hur är det med din nuvarande, vill du sälja den?
Wonderful tour, but still loving Polar Seal 🙂❤
You said it your self. The best boat that exists, is the one that you have. Continue to think with that attidute. It is not a 26 foot one, it is not a 32 foot one and it is not a 36 foot one. It is a 40 foot and perfect for a sailing couple. Especially if it is paid up and there is no mortgage on it. Buying bigger and bigger it can become a never ending lifestory attidute. People are sailing the world in much smaller boats. Yes, probably not the same comfort etc etc etc. But, one thing in mind. The views are the same and probably even better for people on small boats. Cause people on small boats tend to (or forced to) get more aquainted with the locals and the local culture and nature. While people on bigger boats end up in marinas and clubs where the local culture and nature cannot be found there. Good luck with your hunting
So glad that Ryan mended well after that demon goose attack. I’ve been spending my pre-sailing work life lunches eating my box lunches in a cute park with a lake full of Canadian geese. They seem used to people but I still keep my distance. The baby geese are about the park now and I will absolutely be giving them all the space they, and I need.
I have the Oceanis 50 from the same series as Polar Seal. its turned out to be a fantastic boat for us at a very competitive price point for a fifty footer.
👍👍👍👍👍👍
A 50' boat comes with a very large carrying cost.
For me and my tastes I will always chose a catamaran for traveling around the world. It gives me more safeness sensation than a monohull. Maybe for your favorable features that you are looking for, respecting always your budget, it’s a catamaran length 15 mt your best choice. There are many one out there can satisfy all tastes. For performance or comfort or both.
Now that video was real fun!
Hej, bonjour, hi… while at the show why didn’t you ask Johan at Sailing Ran to build an additional boat for you? 50FT on a budget delivered in Skane… Francois (Frasse)
Affordability isn’t always about having a bag of money. If you have a steady flow of much smaller money bags, you can achieve the same. Euro1.6 million is 13,500 per month over 10 years. That is Ryan handing his monthly directors salary to bank, and you both live on the YouTube income….plus Sophie’s consultancy fees. You can buy things on as little as 1% interest I’ve seen, so work the numbers, and live in the present. Cash flow is everything.
Love Your sessions
Always enjoy your videos. Have you considered the Ovni 450 yacht? Aluminum and there should be used boats available. 👍😊
You enjoyed the time at this boat show. Thanks for showing these different yachts. If you miss water sound, you can find more on my channel.
