I use a sock for my gennaker, like on a spinnaker. Actually it's my spinnaker sock I use for my gennaker. It works fine.
Thank you for taking us along👍
Thanks! A great video from an amazing cultural landscape. Im archaeologist, and you learned me something. Some day I go to Kilda 🙂
Buhnahabhain. Good choice. 👍
Hi Erik!
You are not only a sailor, a photographer, a movie maker… You are an inspiration!!!
Keep on doing what you are doing!!! And thanks for the extraordinary footage and stories!

just stunning. Thank You Eirik
How do you make this shots with a drone in this weather conditions. Amazing…
What a nice film, of lovely smh mystical place, And how lucky were you Erik, that weather?!
Incredible adventure and beautifully filmed. Many thanks, Eric.
A fantastic video Erik, thank you for all the effort and sentiment you put in. Very professional output and sailing skills, excellent work, happy sailing…
Thank you for creating this fantastic video.
Excellant 🙏⛵
Erik, another great video. Saint Kilda is such a beautiful place but it’s so isolated. The people who first live there had to be extra tough to handle the isolation and the weather. We have places like that here in Southeast Alaska, Coral, usual the old cannery we’re up to 200 people would live and work in the cannery. One of them is 20 miles from here. and because of our winter winds blowing at 80 kn, in the winter people cannot leave the calories in the early 1900s. If they died there, they were buried there.
Again, , great drone footage. Really some of the best parts of your videos are your drone shots. I’m always amazed that you can fly and land that drone in 25 to 30 kn of wind. Amazing.
You know, that gennaker hates you! Once you got the tangle in the ropes undone though, it looks like it flew just fine and you got some mileage out of it. I also like the idea of double reefing the mainsail when you first raised it. I do a similar tactic where I’ll put one or two wreaths in until I’m sure the wind is low enough to shake out the reefs and fly the entire sail.
As always, a couple of suggestions. Do you have an anchor snubber? It’s a line that attaches to cleats on the boat, and then to the anchor chain with a hook. It takes the entire load off of your anchor windlass, because the winless is not designed to take the load of the chain in heavy weather. Here’s a link with information that shows what’s called a bridle system. with an anchor snubber. You can do the same thing with one line instead of two.

Also, I noticed that your feet got wet when the waves were breaking over the side of the boat. I would recommend these boots by Xtra-Tuff. This is a great set of deck boots that I have on my boat that are completely waterproof. They also make a taller version of these boots that is used extensively by commercial fisherman in southeast Alaska. I use them for when I have to land the dinghy on shore, and step into deep water, because the water here is cold, but I use the short version if I’m going to be on the deck while it’s raining, or there are waves breaking.

Eric, do you remember what episode it was where you seen a submarine, I can't find it.?
Brilliant
The little house on Garbh Eileen had an open door. I hope we go back there one day to see if anyone is home. 😉
Wow man, one of those aerial shots looked amazingly like Anacapa Is., Channel Islands, California. Beautiful anchorage.
Just Beautiful. Thank you truly for another great video. If you are on camera 4, how many drones are you down 😅
Truely not a second of bullshit. I feel different after your videos. Better…like i just returned from a trip. Your editing and narration are just captivating.
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful otherworldly expedition.
Thank you Eric, simply fantastic 😊👍
What a great sail!!!
Erik, you are a true Viking. Nothing better than enjoying your new episodes on a Sunday-morning on my PC, before the day kicks off. So much work you must have put into the editing, truly amazing.
I learned about the history of St. Kilda when spending days on the island of Skye. It is an amazing piece of history. The inhabitants of St. Kilda used to communicate with the people on the main-land via messages in a bottle. A big part of their diet consisted of the gannet birds. One can imagine from your drone-pictures how dangerous it was to even get close to the birds. After the people were evacuated from the treeless island, the men were given jobs in forestry! Life must have been truly different then. Nice that your film shows, that despite all the hardships, they lived in a majestic environment.
I was surprised however, that you did not meet any of the people from the other boats who must have been on the island?
incredible place you show us thank you so much never seen this place in scotland
Wow great vid Erik. How do you fly and land a drone sailing in 30 kts single handed?!
Never give up!
Wonderful video Eric. I also had the pleasure of sailing to St Kilda this summer on my way to Iceland. Weather wasn't as calm and sunny as you had but the calm of the island was a welcome break. I still remember the eerie feeling I had knowing the history of the place. Safe Travels Home!
Hey Erik clogged ears are good when you have a wife- So you don't hear here nagging,,,, Hah ha ha
I watch tons of sailing videos and NBJS is right up there, if not the best. Plus single-handed sailing only makes it more appealing. Brilliant video Erik, and the photography is outstanding.
