  1. Well, that square blue/white 'table' at 10:30 is an official signal: the "Blauwe bord"
When in use it is tilted 90degrees forward (the blue facing forward) and the white light in the middle is turned on (flashing).
It is used when ships want to meet on the 'wrong' side of each other. Normaly one meets 'port on port' but sometimes ships want to meet 'starboard on starboard' or 'Blauw op blauw' (bleu on bleu).

This procedure is used on the rivers (Rhine, IJssel). Where ships in the "opvaart" (going upstream, 'up the hill') usually like to stay on the inside of riverbends where there is less current to overcome. In that case the ships in "opvaart" show their bleu/white/flashing white light to signal their intentions to the "afvaart" (ships going downstream).
often this is accompanied with some VHF communication.

  2. This is – could be – a fantastic vessel for an owner that is a bit adventurous.
But what always beats me, and especially for a vessel like this with central hydronic heating all over, is the prevalence of electrical radiators. If an engine is running (generator or main), should leave ample of residual heat to keep vessel comfy. And if at dock with no engines running, oil burner or shore power heating the hydronic system would be far more efficient.

  3. Well the engine need completely replacement with far better fuel economy capacity,30 ltrs per hour I'd diabolical bad , modern 400 HP TD 15 ltr per hour and doubles up range , apart from this it's absolutely fantastic ship and if I had cash I definitely buy it .

  4. Lovely ship for someone to gut and redo the accomodations and salon. You would have a great sturdy foundation for a good price.

  5. The Blue Shield is required om the Rhine and some rivers in the ccr area when sailing on the left side on the river. Ships coming from the oppositie direction shall pass on the side of the blue shield.

  6. A great boat but it really does need modernisation, especially the cabins, there's too many and far too small. Also only one engine is a big disadvantage, if nothing else it needs a wing. The navigation equipment looked very outdated. Only a maximum of 5,000 nortical miles isn't very good. Southampton to the Caribbean wouldn't be possible without refueling. Nevertheless a sound basis for an expensive project.

  7. Very excited to hear about the progress from Archipelago. Great stuff! Happy to hear they are thinking about steps off the back. Very important for MOB and also would really help entry/exit from a dinghy and maybe landing the odd fish. Would be interested to learn about sizing of the battery bank / speed vs range expectations for the hybrids.

  8. I think the guest cabin area needs a refit and a sympithetic refit from someone like seatag . . .
Nice ship . . Id love to take it thru the panama canal . .

  9. If this were my boat, me thinks with some paying guest I could be free from all the things that make life an obstacle. Own a home fixed to the cost of living on land, or have a home free of the nastiest that live on land. Buy this for half the cost of a rubbish house sold to you by a vampire real estate agent and still have enough money left to work out a business plan.
