  1. Hello again to you both. Another very interesting video. All these "little jobs" are totally important for your boat to be safe. You both are doing great work. Looking forward to next week. Ok, later, ciao. Geo

  2. We have them here in Australia as well, call them "no-see-em's" cos you cannot always see them. Rub mouthwash on your skin, that seems to help deter them

  3. You may over think on things but Seabird is one vessel i know you will feel safe sailing the seven seas. Great video again guy's 👌

  4. I love your energy guys, but now you've drilled 2 new threw holes to the bottom of your hull☠️
You don't want ANY threw holes really, only when you can't pull them back to the stern. Check Island Packet sailboats for example all threw holes at the stern.
But 2 holes fpr rain water!? BIG NO. sorry…

  5. Hey Guys : I never comment but I want to say you all are great. Down to earth and nice and you're doing a great job on that boat. It's going to be amazing. I've been watching for a while and of course Subscribed & Like each time. 🙂

  6. I know nothing about keeled boats, but i was expecting some kind of valve for the drains on the deck. Is it really that simple of a mecanism, even when you're in the water? 😮

  7. Still loving your updates. Really like the little jobs you are doing that will eventually feel so worth while. Have a great week. 😊

  8. I admire you both, working together fully committed to your future travels. Can't wait to see you enjoy all your hard work ❤

  9. Regarding your cockpit drains… I should perhaps qualify the following opinion by mentioning that nearly half a century of professional experience, both at sea and in the design and fitting out of small commercial vessels and ocean going sailing boats, allows me to assure you that your cockpit drains will be absolutely fine as they are.

    In more detail…

The answer to the question of whether or not to cross over the drain hoses varies from boat to boat. The question is resolved by looking carefully at a transverse section of the yacht in way of the cockpit, and at that section examining the relationship between the height of the heeled cockpit sole (i.e. the cockpit "floor") above the heeled waterline. Incidentally, the foregoing examination of the geometrical relationship usually only becomes a critical consideration on small yachts – when (a) the cockpit sole is close to the waterline even when the vessel is on an even keel and (b) the drain hoses exit the vessel close to, or above, the waterline.

In your case, however, as your drain hoses drop almost vertically from the cockpit to the skin fittings, the foregoing considerations do not apply. Similarly – because of the near vertical fall of your hoses – there is nothing to be gained by crossing the hoses over (port to starboard and vice-versa). With that in mind, I would strongly suggest that if the crossed hoses are a nuisance in the engine compartment, uncross them: route the port skin fitting to the port cockpit drain, and the starboard skin fitting to the starboard cockpit drain.

You'll find that this somewhat simpler – and less space consuming – arrangement will work perfectly well for you on that particular boat. In the event that you doubt me, I suggest you try both options and demonstrate to yourselves that on your boat there's absolutely nothing to be gained by crossing the hoses over!

You're doing really well and I hope the foregoing might be of some help to you.

    Kind regards,

    Chris.

  10. Soon, Seabird will be in water ! soon !!

This is the weekly dose of making google proud of you ! Go up little video.

  11. We used Poly Pox to repair underwater wood that was bored into by wood gribble worms back 35 years ago… I don't think it's available in the USA

  12. One coat of epoxy = five coats of varnish. When using epoxy as varnish outside do a light sand when the epoxy is dry and finish coat/coats with a spa varnish for the UV protection.

  13. hey you two lovin all the vids, just wanted to say a huge thanks for the BITE AWAY tip, I'm working in Tahiti at the moment and the mosquitos just love me !! went back to the UK for a short break and saw your last video and bought one of the bite gone things and no itching since many many thanks for that. I'll send something from amazon to say thanks 😉😉😉😉😁😁 keep up the good work 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

  14. Nice instruments (clock and temp/hum) with this little screws on the front side. Have almost the same clock at selmatrudelli but was not able to find temp/hum with that screws. Are that messing instruments someone painted black? Or is that black original?

  15. Thank you Guys for an excellent Vlog. You may think it may be boring at times for your viewers. But don't you ever think, us viewers watch you because we like the personality that you both portray? That's why we really like. Cheers Guys xx

  16. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the thru hulls for your cockpit drains REALLY should be above the waterline. You could tie them together through a single thru hull. Those look like 1.25" (32mm) drains. A 2" (~50mm) thru hull would handle both drains.

  17. The cockpit drains could be tied together with a near horizontal PVC pipe, then use only one down pipe, maybe attached to the same drain as the sinks or shower. Having it under the waterline, it will always have a foot of water in it, not including the extra pressure of water for when you are moving! Lots of good work going on there, nice to see it getting nicer and nicer!

  18. For all you through haul nah sayers this is a center cockpit. They did it correctly when on a heal it will drain correctly. They ran the lines the correct way. It’s a center cockpit. No they could have done it above waterline but a freaking hose you would be dodging heading to aft. Some people’s kids.

  19. Dont remember now but did you put any parafin oil to that gelcoat? It wont dry without that. Just paint that bilge with epoxy paint. Thanks for good content, best channel on YouTube 👍

  20. Its a great video again. The jobs you say are frustrating and boring are actually good to watch as its honest about how you are putting the effort in all over the boat. They are little jobs that for us build up the excitement of seeing you get to the 'big' jobs. All of it is worth a watch. You are doing a great job and love to watch each week what you have achieved. Keep going its looking great! ❤

  21. Good progress. I think however the scuppers should drain out above the waterline so they can handle a lot of volume quickly when you cop a big wave over the coaming. At the moment, the drain tubes will be half full of water, and the weight of the water draining out will need to move it first, then get a chance to drain itself. Not a good look when you want it out fast. you went to all the trouble to remove the through hulls, then drilled through again..!! I shed a tear for you – and I shouted in dismay at the screen.!! Haha ha.
Also, as the scupper fittings are domed, there will always be water collecting in the cockpit channels, and it is a right pain in the neck (from experience). I know you said a sponge will fix it, but there will always be some water rolling around there.
Still, I guess you have a go and work your way through the practicalities and find your way, which is very satisfying.
Great videos – thanks for the entertainment.
